Azra Ismail
Azra Ismail is an Assistant Professor in Biomedical Informatics at Emory University, overseeing the CARE Lab (Collective Action & Research for Equity). Her research focuses on designing data/AI-driven systems to address health equity for marginalised communities and care workers. With a Ph.D. in human-centered computing and a degree in computer engineering from Georgia Tech, she co-founded MakerGhat, an education nonprofit in India fostering leaders and entrepreneurs from underserved backgrounds.
Dr. Ismail is establishing an interdisciplinary lab at Emory and Georgia Tech, seeking students and postdocs interested in HCI, computing, informatics, public health and nursing. Her work integrates ethnographic fieldwork, participatory design, system development and evaluation, informed by feminist perspectives and centering marginalised communities. Brinda Somaya
Brinda Somaya is a revered figure in the space of architecture, with over four decades of experience in shaping both built and unbuilt environments. A contemporary Indian architect, she champions the preservation of culture and tradition alongside sustainable design principles. Graduating from the Sir JJ College of Architecture, Mumbai, and completing her Master of Arts degree from Smith College, USA, in 1973, Brinda embarked on her architectural journey. In 1978, she co-founded Somaya and Kalappa (SNK) with her sister, Ranjini Kalappa, later continuing the practice independently.
Over the years, Brinda has led numerous projects, ranging from the restoration of heritage structures to the design of innovative greenfield developments. Her work reflects a deep commitment to societal transformation and environmental stewardship. With a diverse portfolio spanning from residential homes to corporate headquarters and cultural institutions, the architecture of Brinda embodies a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity, leaving a lasting impact on the architectural landscape of India. Her work on the Vikram Sarabhai Library, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, won her the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation 2019 Award of Distinction.
Prof Rakhi Chaturvedi

Kiran, a prominent author based in Mumbai, is a literary force to be reckoned with. With over a dozen books under her belt spanning both fiction and non-fiction genres, she has etched her name in the history of Indian literature.
Born from a diverse professional background, her foray into the world of words was not a straight path. From journalism to advertising, from entrepreneurship to trendspotting, she traversed various domains before finding her true calling as an author.
The publication of her debut book, The Reluctant Detective, in 2011 marked the beginning of a prolific literary career. Despite initial challenges in finding a publisher for subsequent works, Kiran’s determination and the encouragement of friends propelled her forward. Today, with 14 books to her name and more on the horizon, she stands as an inspiration for aspiring authors navigating the tumultuous waters of the publishing industry.
Darshana Joshi
Darshana Joshi, while pursuing her PhD in physics at the University of Cambridge, was captivated by the idea of science outreach. Immersed in her lab work, she often welcomed school students eager to witness scientific principles in action, igniting their curiosity through interactive demonstrations. Inspired by these experiences, Darshana and her partner Vijay Venugopalan embarked on a mission to democratise science education, establishing VigyanShaala upon completing their doctoral studies. This organisation aims to bridge the gap in STEAM education, especially for marginalised communities, through mentorship programmes like the Rural STEAM Champions Fellowship and the Kalpana Fellowship, focusing on empowering women and girls in STEAM fields. Their impact extends beyond mentoring, as they collaborate with local governments to collect data and shape policies, addressing systemic barriers hindering the participation of women in science and engineering across India.
