Smile children in Meow Radio
Smile Foundation children from Dreamz Home were on Meow Radio as a part of Children’s Day celebration at Fun Republic Mall/ Theatre, Andheri on November 14, 2009. The kids were welcomed by Radio Jockeys Mahek, Devina and Ajay with a huge round of applause. RJ Mahek briefed people about Smile Foundation and its work. The kids were invited to join others on the dance floor, which was followed by a drawing competition, wherein two Smile Foundation children secured II and III position in the competition.
After the drawing competition, the children had lots of fun in a musical chair competition. Bhagyshree from Smile Foundation managed to be in the game till the second last round. Saaili, the youngest among Smile children, stunned the audience by her marvelous performance on the ramp. Like a professional child model, Saaili confidently walked the ramp. The event ended with prizes given away to the winners.
As a continuation of Children’s Day celebrations, a special episode/ talk time was gifted by Meow Radio for Smile children, wherein 8 children got the opportunity to be live on air with RJ Mahek for 30 minutes. RJ Mahek invited the kids to the studio. The epsiode began with an introduction about Smile Foundation, which was followed by self introduction by the children. The kids very enthusiastically spoke about their aspirations in life, their dream to becoming a police officer, writer, actress and even a Radio Jockey.
Celebrating Children’s Day with a Bang
“How many of us think about giving back to the society? Hats off to Smile Foundation and Nava Karnataka for their initiative in providing education to underprivileged children,” said Chintan Mithaiwala, Assistant Manager, Occupational and Development Markets, DTZ International Property Advisers, during the children’s day celebrations at Nava Karnataka Social Service (NKSS) centre, one of the Mission Education projects supported by Smile Foundation in Bengaluru.
More than 350 tiny tots had a day filled with fun and frolic as 16 employees from the corporate made children feel how special and important they are. The employees and children conducted surfeit of activities on November 14, 2009 at NKSS. Children actively participated in group dance, face painting, fancy dress and drawing competition. The classrooms were skilfully decorated by children and they were showered upon with unfathomable love and affection by the staff from the corporate.
“It was very touching to have spent a special day with such lovely children and having done our bit to spread smiles around. I was amazed by the talent and enthusiasm that children displayed. For me it was one of the worthwhile moments spent so far for a noble cause,” said Priya V, Regional Manager, Human Resources, DTZ International Property Advisers.
A fancy dress competition was organised on the occasion where children dressed up as doctor, nurse, teacher, barbie doll, Miss India, Indira Gandhi, Michael Jackson and their favourite Chacha Nehru. Face painting competition was another attraction for employees. While there were children who painted modern art on the face of other child; it was spider’s house on one face that won the best award.
“We had never seen such a programme before. It was a fantastic experience. We had a great time with the children,” said S. Daniel Raj, Manager, Nava Karnataka Social Service Trust.
The entertaining day ended with all collectively tapping their feet on various dance numbers and relishing the delicacies distributed by the employees. It was an amusing day for all children as they took away lots of gifts including tiffin box, geometry box, sketch pens, colour pencils and other interesting items. The winners of each competition won exclusive gift hampers.
“Spending time with the kids was not just fun but also very inspiring. While one of the kids said she wants to become a doctor and open a hospital for the poor, another dreamt of being a police officer. Guna, one of the many kids I interacted with lost his father at a very young age, yet he has the courage to battle through all odds. He participated in all the activities including dance, face painting and making of clay models. I was told that he is also good in academics and quite popular among peers. I wish Guna and all other kids of Smile Foundation, the very best in life. Hope to be a part of many more such events,” added Chintan Mithaiwala.

NYK representatives spend a Day with Smile children
Smile Foundation children from SHED Centre, Mumbai celebrated Children’s Day with NYK employees at Santa Cruz on November 14, 2009.
The D Day dedicated to Children began with small kids singing simple Nursery rhymes like ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ along with NYK employees. One of the Japanese Directors also recited and taught a few Japanese rhymes to the children.
The little heroes of the day introduced themselves and shared their dreams and desires. Some of them wanted to become teachers, pilots, dancers, cricketers etc.
The children presented a solo and group dance on folk, Bollywood and western numbers. Everyone including the teachers and officials of SHED and NYK employees along with the other children present were enthralled with the performance of the children.
Many fun filled activities like painting competition, diya making etc were organised for the students. The kids surprised all with their creativity and innovation by drawing Smile Foundation’s logo on a Diya. The painting competition was won by a young little disabled girl. A group of kids showed some daring karate stunts like ‘Brick Breaking’ both with and without fire.
The event ended with distribution of prizes and gifts from NYK Group and Smile Foundation.
Smile Children with students from Singapore
Students and teachers of JJ school, Singapore celebrated Universal Children’s Day with Smile Foundation children from Ina Raja Memorial Educational Trust, Hari Nagar, New Delhi on November 20, 2009. The event started with four fun filled games played between the underprvileged and privileged students. Children from both the teams participated enthusiastically. The JJ School students interacted with the children and explained them about issues like Prevention of H1N1 and Dental Hygiene encoraging the use of soap, towel, handkerchief etc.
The children also organised many colourful cultural programme including folk dance and folk song performances from Punjab, Rajasthan and Haryana. The Singapore students were enthralled and joined in the dance performances and learnt a few Indian folk dance steps. Gifts were also exchanged amongst the students.
