Smile Foundation will utilise the proceeds to bring more children into its ‘Mission Education’ programme
Smile Foundation organised ‘Aashayein’ a musical journey with KK for the cause of child education at Hamsadhwani Auditorium, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on March 27, 2010.
“I am very delighted to be a part of this event. I believe that Aashayein will bring a few more underserved children of our country to the path of empowerment,” says KK, the famous playback singer from the country, ”ashayein is also an opportunity for privileged and sensitized people like us to come together for a worthy cause of children, who are the future of a nation. Children hold the key to the progress of our nation,” adds KK.
Aashayein is an effort from Smile Foundation to mobilize more support for child education under ‘Mission Education,’ which is a national level programme focusing on basic education for underprivileged children and youth.
Smile Foundation believes that whether you are addressing healthcare, poverty, population control, unemployment or human rights, there’s no better place to start than in the corridors of Education.
Because education is both the means as well as the end to a better life: means, because it empowers an individual to earn his/her livelihood and the end because it increases one’s awareness on a range of issues – from healthcare to appropriate social behaviour to understanding one’s rights – and in the process evolve as a better citizen.
Talking about Aashayein, H. N. Sahay, Director Operations, Smile Foundation says, “Smile Foundation will continue to sensitise the privileged citizens to become a part of the effort in providing better education and healthcare facilities to the underprivileged children of the country. It feels really great to see a huge number of our existing and new associates joining hands with us to support such initiatives that strengthen our commitment to protect child rights and to ensure their well being.” Mr. Sahay adds, “The socio-economic situation in many South Asian countries are similar and Mission Education programme will make a significant difference to the plight of the underprivileged children in these countries and we want to start with Nepal and Bangladesh very soon.”
As per recent findings not more than 30 per cent of school children in the age group 6 to 14 in educationally advanced states can read simple text fluently or do basic arithmetic sums. Smile Foundation believes that quality education is the key to overcome poverty in a single generation and is imperative in creating a future for the underprivileged section, thereby adding to the progress of our nation.
Smile Foundation promotes and catalyses universal education among underprivileged children, create the necessary process to embrace these children into mainstream education in a sustained manner, facilitate them to emerge as productive assets, and set the foundation for nation building.
