Under its expansion plan Smile has tied up with Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) which is India’s largest steel producing public sector unit. The collaboration helped in setting up a Smile Twin e Learning Programme (STeP) centre in Kolkata. The partnership has helped more than 40 students so far since March 2010 by making them employable through training in computers, spoken English, retail management and soft skills and placing them thereafter.
Furthermore, SAIL has also extended its support to Smile on Wheels (SOW) project in Delhi by bearing the part capital cost. Under this partnership SAIL has supported the second mobile health care unit for Delhi NCR. This unit targets approximately 1.5 lac people in urban slums of East Delhi and Noida. It brings affordable, integrated and clinically advanced, quality healthcare services within the reach of these marginalized people. The health van enables prevention, diagnosis, as well as treatment services.
Among many of its other significant developmental efforts, SAIL has established 61 Primary Health Centres, 8 Reproductive and Child Health Centres, 18 Hospitals and 6 Super-Specialty Hospitals to provide specialized healthcare to almost 26.7 million people.
