The main focus of this Mission Education project is to induct non-school going children and school drop-outs from the age of 6-11 years, and provide them primary education, basic life skills and relevant exposure to build on their core capacities.
Children from migrant families from different parts of the country, majorly the interiors of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal who have settled in the slum clusters of Dharavi, Mumbai, form the target group of the project. Engaged in unskilled labor work, most of the parents have never been to school and the problem of child labor is also rampant in the community.
Parents are guided to support and encourage their children to attend school regularly. They are engaged constantly in the learning process of their children, through community meetings, Parent Teacher Meetings and periodic home visits.
The project also provides support to students who are already in school, keeping in mind their holistic growth, and providing them with education, health and nutrition, to help reduce drop-outs.
Smile Foundation has partnered with Gosavi Bahuuddeshiya Sanstha for this Mission Education Project.
