SUMMARY:Breast feeding day celebrated by Smile Foundation’s Swabhiman programme
DESCRIPTION:Set every August for the first seven days of the month\, World Breastfeeding Week aims to highlight the huge benefits that breastfeeding can bring to the health and welfare of babies\, as well as a wider push for maternal health\, focusing on good nutrition\, poverty reduction and food security. Keeping this in mind World Breast Feeding month was celebrated by Swabhiman workers along with community members which included expecting mothers\, new mothers and mothers having breast feeding babies. The volunteers talked about the importance of breast feeding\, the need for good nutritious food for expecting and new mothers. Around 150 women participated in the event making it a success. \nSwabhiman\, meaning self-respect in English\, was initiated in 2005 to address these challenges through a simple yet effective approach. The programme is specifically aimed at realization of both individual and collective self-esteem and inner strength for marginalised and socially excluded women and adolescent girls through innovative community practices.

SUMMARY:Career Counseling session conducted for STeP students
DESCRIPTION:Counseling sessions were conducted in centers of Delhi\, Mumbai\, Chennai\, Kolkata and Bengaluru\, Pune and Hyderabad. A total of 81 career counseling sessions were held. Interaction with youth on personality development\, soft skills and their future career was done by personnel from various organizations. Sessions were taken up on development of confidence\, facing interviews\, decision making & to take jobs in their field of interest. The sessions helped in motivating these students to go forth with different career choices. \nSmile Twin E- learning Programme (STeP) is an initiative of Smile Foundation that aims at creating a pool of young and independent people\, from a section of underprivileged youth\, through skill enhancement in tandem with market requirements. SUMMARY:Special Health camp for children of urban slum
DESCRIPTION:A special health camp was conducted for the children of urban slums in Delhi. These children usually do not get proper healthcare facilities as their parents work as daily wage laborers and seldom have the time to care for the children. A regular health check-up was conducted for the children and the children were sensitized about the importance of washing their hands before and after eating and exercising daily and the importance of playing sports and inculcating other healthy habits to avoid falling sick. The children were asked to share their daily routines and the steps they took every day to maintain hygiene. SUMMARY:Team from Blackrock paints and beautifies classrooms
DESCRIPTION:A team of employees from Blackrock visited Mission Education center at Gurugram on the 27th of June 2018. The volunteers had a gala time painting alphabets\, animals\, birds etc. on the walls of the classrooms. These types of drawings enhance the learning abilities of the children and also make them fast learners. It also increases the frequency of the children attending class as the pictures and drawings are exciting and good to look at. SUMMARY:Taking care of dental health
DESCRIPTION:Oral hygiene is an important part aspect of our overall health and taking good care of our teeth keeps us away from various diseases. It is especially important to teach children to take proper care of their oral hygiene and also conduct regular check up of their oral hygiene. Keeping in mind the same a Dental Health camp was conducted for the students of a Mission Education centre in Tamil Nadu. The doctor conducted a regular dental checkup and prescribed medicines for those suffering from teeth problems and references for problems such as dental cavity etc. Nearly 397 Beneficiaries participated in the health camp and utilized the benefits. The doctor also advised the students to brush twice a day and avoid sticky\, sweet things after brushing and rinse their mouth after every meal. SUMMARY:Training teachers for implementing better teaching-learning practices
DESCRIPTION:A Teacher’s Training workshop was conducted for a group of teachers from various Mission Education centers for 3 days in New Delhi. These teachers teach children from families who reside in the urban slums and the parents are mostly engaged in daily wage labor. Due to the financial conditions at home these children mostly end up dropping from school and work in unhygienic\, threatening conditions. Steps to reduce dropout rates\, make learning more fun\, sensitizing the parents etc was discussed along with methods to make the learning process more effective.
