SUMMARY:Third Learning Fest for Swabhiman scholars concludes
DESCRIPTION:The third edition of the Swabhiman Learning Fest\, which is a two day residential camp for the scholars of Swabhiman concluded on the 7th of June 2018. The two-day ‘Learning Fest’ was organised for 130 girls. \nThese girls have excelled in their studies\, despite living in poverty. Each one of them has received scholarships to complete their education under Smile Foundation’s Swabhiman programme. \nThe two-day ‘Learning Fest’ was organised for these girls to help them explore themselves holistically and shape their own life. With a view of making them self-aware\, confident and take full charge of their own development\, interactive and self exploration workshops were conducted to empower them with various life skills. They were helped by experts to develop their personality\, interpersonal relationships and studies. \nThe conclusion of the camp witnessed relatively confident\, self-relying and optimistic girls! \nSwabhiman\, meaning self-respect in English\, was initiated in 2005 to address these challenges through a simple yet effective approach. SUMMARY:Washing hands and keeping away from diseases
DESCRIPTION:Hand washing is an important part of our daily activities. One should wash hands before and after eating and keep hands clean to avoid a number of diseases as our hands carry dirt and bacteria from different places. It is important to teach children the benefits of hand washing at a young age so that it does not hamper their health and healthy habits can be inculcated. \nAn IEC activity was recently conducted at a school in Gurugram where the doctors addressed the children about hand washing and why is it important for good health. DESCRIPTION:Counseling sessions were conducted in centers of Delhi\, Mumbai\, Chennai\, Kolkata and Bengaluru\, Pune and Hyderabad. A total of 55 career counseling sessions were held. Interaction with youth on personality development\, soft skills and their future career was done by personnel from various organizations. Sessions were taken up on development of confidence\, facing interviews\, decision making & to take jobs in their field of interest. The sessions helped in motivating these students to go forth with different career choices. \nSmile Twin E- learning Programme (STeP) is an initiative of Smile Foundation that aims at creating a pool of young and independent people\, from a section of underprivileged youth\, through skill enhancement in tandem with market requirements. The assignments given by the volunteers helped the young explorers on how to be Internet Smart\, Internet Alert\, Internet Strong\, Internet Kind and Internet Brave. The kids learnt a lot about Google and its various features and had a lot of fun exploring everything. SUMMARY:Awareness on skin diseases and water borne diseases
DESCRIPTION:As the monsoon sets in it is very important for people to take preventive measures against a number of diseases which spread due to stagnation of water etc. People in urban slums and rural areas are most affected by these diseases because they lack awareness and take little or no preventive measures. \nSmile on Wheels recently conducted an awareness session for the people living in the urban slums of Ahmadabad. The people were sensitized about the measures to be taken in cases of diarrhea and other skin diseases.
