SUMMARY:Parent-teacher meeting conducted at Mission Education center
DESCRIPTION:A parent-teacher meeting was conducted at a Mission Education center in Odishaon 2nd April 2018. The main aim of these meetings were to discuss the progress of the children at school\, what measures must be ensured so that the children study at home and work harder and how can the parents help. The meetings saw the active participation of the children. 17 parents were present in this meeting. The major points which were discussed were the performance of children in the centre\, performances of the teachersand the role of parents towards the education\, health and hygiene of their children. \nMission Education is a national level programme of Smile Foundation\, which is committed to providing basic education and healthcare to underprivileged children. \nSmile Foundation is a national level development organisation directly benefitting over 400\,000 children and their families every year\, through more than 200 live welfare projects on education\, healthcare\, livelihood and women empowerment\, in over 950 remote villages and slums across 25 states of India.

SUMMARY:IPL Team Kolkata Knight Riders comes forward to support Smile on Wheels to provide healthcare relief to the underprivileged in and around Kolkata
DESCRIPTION:Team Kolkata Knight Riders and Meer Foundation have come together to support Smile Foundation in their endeavor to provide healthcare services for the underprivileged community specially women and children. The inaugural health camp was conducted on the 15th of April 2018 at Bantala\, Kolkata\, after which 11 more health camps will be conducted across the state of West Bengal. The camps will run in the districts of Kolkata\, south and North 24 Pargana\, East and West Medinipore \, Burdwan\, Darjeling\, Alipurduar and Cochbihar. The overall target beneficiary to be reached is counted at 2400 people. \nThe inaugural camp facilitated healthcare services for the people dwelling in the Dhapa-Bantala area where the popular occupations are rag-picking and daily wage earning which make the people prone to multiple diseases and infections. The locations have been chosen so as to provide healthcare needs to the people who need it the most but cannot afford it due to lack of resources and awareness. Through the health camps Smile on Wheels aims to provide primary healthcare services and also spread awareness about various diseases among the needy and underprivileged. \nSmile on Wheels programme at present has 39 operational projects in 623 remote villages and urban slums across India\, directly benefiting 580\,000 lives directly in a year.

SUMMARY:Nickelodeon conducts an awareness session with Smile Foundation children
DESCRIPTION:Nickelodeon conducted an awareness session with the children of a Mission Education centre in Mumbai recently. The vent was called Together For Good. Nickelodeon conducted the event in association with NGO Arpan. The activity was on imparting lessons on safety and well-being for kids to reinforce the objective of creating a safe environment for every child. \nThe event started with an ice breaking session and interaction with the kids who were given a questionnaire to understand their knowledge and awareness on this topic. This was followed by PPTs and videos on the same topic. It was very informative and engaging session for the kids. SUMMARY:Child Rights groups formed in Mission Education centres
DESCRIPTION:6 Children groups have been formed in 6 settlements focusing on child rights. The groups have been formed at the settlement level for involving the whole community so that they understand the rights of the children. The project also aims to make the children aware of their rights. Initially the project staff will interact with the groups regularly to make them aware on child rights and the group will get an opportunity to interact with key stakeholders\, duty bearers and most important\, other children. The members in the children group will vary with respect to the size of child population in the IDP settlements. SUMMARY:First Aid training programme for school children conducted in three schools
DESCRIPTION:First aid training programme were conducted for students from three schools in Jammu. The children were taught how to use first aid kits in time of emergency as play time and recess cause accidental injuries at school sometimes. Use of disinfectant\, bandages\, checking for injuries etc was taught to the children. DESCRIPTION:On 25th April\, 2018 actress Karishma Sharma had an interactive session with the children of a Mission Education in Mumbai. The kids welcomed her with a beautiful song performance. A few kids performed on a famous song as well. The kids also had a question answer session wherein they asked the actress about her childhood and her childhood dreams and her school days. Snacks were distributed at the end of the programme. The session included topics such as safe motherhood\, birth preparedness and importance of family planning\, immunization\, importance of education\, reproductive health\, hygiene\, saving money through Self Help Groups (SHGs)\, male involvement in the day to day activities of the household and family\, \nThe community women were also made aware of hygienic practices and healthy eating habits that they should adopt in their daily lives\, and subsequently in their families’ routine. \nDedicated to the welfare of women and the girl child\, Swabhiman functions with the belief that when women our empowered\, the whole society benefits – families are healthier\, children go to school\, income levels improve and communities become more prosperous. \nSwabhiman works through an innovative and highly effective approach called the ‘4 S Model’\, which stands for Seeking Healthcare as a Behaviour\, Support for Education\, Supporters in Men through Male Involvement\, and Sustaining the Change in Communities.
