SUMMARY:Swabhiman activities benefits men\, women and the society
DESCRIPTION:Swabhiman project titled “Empowering Women and Adolescent Girls Through Reproductive Health Education and Services” in Surat Nagar phase 2 in Gurugram\, with the aim to empower women and girl by generating awareness and providing access to quality reproductive and sexual health care. In addition\, male involvement and their sensitization is an integral part. The focus beneficiary groups included adolescent (10-19 years)\, women in reproductive age (20-49 years) and men (20-49 years). \nThrough this project 16\,465 people reached extensively and sensitized on reproductive and sexual health. 403 contraceptives & 286 sanitary napkins were distributed to promote practice of family planning and hygiene. 1315 people received free health services through periodic health camps. 131 pregnant women and 119 lactating mothers were constantly guided for proper Ante Natal and Post Natal Care. 931 community members sensitized on reproductive and sexual health issues through BCC\, and there was celebration of important days & workshops were conducted by health experts. Approximately 1000 people availed free of cost health services through periodic health camps that imbibed a health seeking behavior among the community members.

SUMMARY:Smiling all the way to the villages of Chennai
DESCRIPTION:Doorstep healthcare services have been made accessible for the families living in 10 slum clusters (19 service points) in the city of Chennai\, including Nagalgani\, Pallavaram\, Shankarnagar\, Thrishulam\, Astinapuram\, and Chomepet. \nA new Smile on Wheels mobile hospital project was launched for the purpose\, powered with a team of qualified doctor\, nurse\, lab technician\, pharmacist\, driver and a group of volunteers\, the project aims to benefit over 15\,580 children and families directly every year. A team of volunteers also performed a street play to create awareness on the necessity of basic hygiene.

SUMMARY:New STeP center brings hope to youth of Sunkadakatte slum
DESCRIPTION:A new Smile Twin e-Learning Programme (STeP) centre was launched to train 120 youth from the Sunkadakatte slum area in Bengaluru in market-oriented job skills such as computer education\, basic management\, English communication\, and other soft skills. \nThe community is home to a largely migrant population\, working on daily wages as tailors\, carpenters\, auto drivers\, and painters. \nIn addition\, the youth will be provided hands-on training at their prospective workplaces and further placed at lucrative positions with major retail and service outlets in the city.

SUMMARY:Swabhiman scholars visit Avery Dennison
DESCRIPTION:Members of the Women’s Forum at Avery Dennison invited Smile Foundation’s girl scholars to their Gurugram office for a special session called “Found My Voice”. The session was aimed at enhancing the self-confidence of the girls and encouraging them to face their fears. Both the mentors and their young students had a great time participating in interesting activities and games together. \nIdentified from slums around Delhi\, these exceptionally talented girls have been awarded the merit-based Swabhiman scholarship to complete their schooling and higher studies. They are all first generation learners\, with their parents engaged as domestic help\, drivers\, street vendors and daily wagers.

SUMMARY:Parents of first-generation learners attend parent-teacher meeting
DESCRIPTION:Parents of the students from Mission Education center Haldia\, West Bengal attended a parent-teacher meeting on the 23rd of June 2017. The main occupation of the people here is fishing and most of the parents who attended were those who were at first reluctant to send their children to school. The parents were updated about the progress of their children and problem areas were discussed in the meeting. \nThe teachers also use play way methodology and activity based teaching techniques to help the children learn in a fun way.

SUMMARY:Paints\, fun and smile with Google
DESCRIPTION:A team of employees from Google visited Mission Education centre at Bengaluru on the 25th of June 2017. The volunteers had a gala time interacting with the children and the children had much fun painting the walls of the classroom with various popular designs. An ice-breaking session was conducted at the onset of the programme to make the children comfortable. The children enthusiastically participated in the activities and learnt the lesson of working as a team and co-ordination and division of work.

DESCRIPTION:The people living in the middle of the Dapodi garbage have long ignored their health and the hazards of living in the middle of a garbage dump mainly because rag picking is their main source of livelihood. The Smile on Wheels mobile hospital introduced for the locality has bought many smiles to the residents of the locality as the people have found much-needed relief\, right at their doorsteps. \nThe hospital\, complete with a doctor and paramedical staff\, a pharmacy and lab test facilities\, visits them once every week. Besides providing preventive and curative healthcare services\, the mobile hospital also spreads awareness on health\, hygiene\, and sanitation in the community.

SUMMARY:Swabhiman Learning Fest 2017
DESCRIPTION:The second edition of the Swabhiman Learning Fest\, which is a two day residential camp for the scholars of Swabhiman concluded on the 29th of June 2017. The two-day ‘Learning Fest’ was organised for these 110 girls to help them explore themselves holistically and shape their own life. With a view of making them self-aware\, confident and take full charge of their own development\, interactive and self exploration workshops were conducted to empower them with various life skills. They were helped by experts from various fields to develop their personality\, interpersonal relationships and studies. \nThe conclusion of the camp witnessed relatively confident\, self-relying and optimistic girls!
