SUMMARY:Swabhiman activities benefits men\, women and the society
DESCRIPTION:Swabhiman project titled “Empowering Women and Adolescent Girls Through Reproductive Health Education and Services” in Surat Nagar phase 2 in Gurugram\, with the aim to empower women and girl by generating awareness and providing access to quality reproductive and sexual health care. In addition\, male involvement and their sensitization is an integral part. The focus beneficiary groups included adolescent (10-19 years)\, women in reproductive age (20-49 years) and men (20-49 years). \nThrough this project 16\,465 people reached extensively and sensitized on reproductive and sexual health. 403 contraceptives & 286 sanitary napkins were distributed to promote practice of family planning and hygiene. 1315 people received free health services through periodic health camps. 131 pregnant women and 119 lactating mothers were constantly guided for proper Ante Natal and Post Natal Care. 931 community members sensitized on reproductive and sexual health issues through BCC\, and there was celebration of important days & workshops were conducted by health experts. Approximately 1000 people availed free of cost health services through periodic health camps that imbibed a health seeking behavior among the community members.

SUMMARY:Smile Foundation children spend a day with Bheem and Chutki
DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation children were invited to celebrate the birthday of their favourite cartoon character – Bheem at Yoga By the Bay with Dr. Mickey Mehta and Shaina Nc. Our kids stretched it out with the characters and later joined them for a wonderful cake cutting celebration. Bheem along with Mickey Mehta and Shaina NC also pledged their support for the campaign ‘Say No to Child Labour’. To celebrate Bheem’s birthday and honour Labour Day\, both of which fall on 1st of May\, the children spend the day with Bheem and Chutki who believe in the free spirit of children and their right to receive equal love and shelter along with education to help them grow into mindful individuals.

DESCRIPTION:5 STeP centers\, 4 in Delhi and 1 in Kolkata have been digitalized under Ericsson’s Connect To Learn (CTL) programme where the entire curriculum is digitalized to make the training more interactive and interesting for the students. The centers are now connected with digital platform which allows the centers to access the cloud based content in a more interesting manner majorly benefitting the students.

SUMMARY:Skilled & trained\, young women in Mamandur begin their journey of empowerment
DESCRIPTION:235 women in Mamandur\, Tamil Nadu\, successfully completed Smile Foundation’s Vocational Training programme\, supported by the PepsiCo Foundation. The convocation ceremony was held in presence of eminent guests\, local authorities and community representatives\, where the women were awarded not just certificates\, but also a sewing machine each – a small support for them to achieve their big dreams. \nEach one of these women has faced her own struggles to reach here – from poverty and hunger to violence and abuse. Today\, by gaining the life skills and confidence to lead an independent and empowered life\, they have won half the battle. Some of these women have already taken up their first jobs with reputed companies. \nWhile two batches of women have already passed out\, a third batch is currently enrolled at the centre. In addition to the vocational training programme\, the Pepsi Co Foundation is also supporting the school health programme and Smile on Wheels mobile hospital project in the village of Mamandur as a sustained effort to benefit the marginalized population.

SUMMARY:Drama\, songs\, paintings and summer fun at camp
DESCRIPTION:Summer camp was organized for the children of a Mission Education center from the 18th to the 20th of May 2017. Various activities were conducted during the three days like painting\, singing\, reading story books and writing stories. The children were also given a chance to show their dramatic skills. \nThe children were supported by the teachers in the learning process and were provided with all required stationary and actively participated in the learning process. The children expressed their happiness that they could learn a lot of new things apart from what they usually learnt in the classroom.

SUMMARY:KFC supports Smile Foundation in its Nutrition for Education initiative
DESCRIPTION:KFC celebrated the completion of one year of the AddHope initiative. To commemorate the celebrations children from Smile Foundation joined in the festivities along with Bollywood celebrity Tanishaa Mukerji. \nThe Add Hope Initiative is a global drive by KFC to create awareness and raise funds to provide meals for underprivileged children. In India\, KFC has partnered with Smile Foundation and other organisations to feed over 10\,300 underprivileged children every day.

SUMMARY:Kalyan brick-kiln workers get free health check-up
DESCRIPTION:Hundreds of children and families from the brick kiln factories of Kalyan\, Maharashtra received free healthcare facilities at their doorsteps on the 20th of May 2017. Primarily occupied in working at the brick kilns\, these families remain exposed to many hazardous health conditions. To combat such diseases the Smile on Wheels mobile hospital which makes regular rounds of the area is powered with a team of qualified doctor\, nurse\, lab technician\, and pharmacist. Regular counseling and awareness sessions are also conducted for the people.

The events were conducted at various dates for different places from the 22nd- 30th May 2017. The kids and the employees from FIS Global introduced themselves to each other and some ice-breaking activities were conducted to make the kids comfortable. It s followed by plantation drives at each centre where one volunteer assisted one child to plant a tree and pledge to protect the environment.

SUMMARY:Team Swabhiman celebrates Menstrual Hygiene Day with young girls and women
DESCRIPTION:Menstrual Hygiene Day was celebrated on 26th May 2017 in Ambedkar Colony and Nut Colony on 27th and 29th May 2017 in Shashi Garden. \nThe day was celebrated with the discussion on menstrual hygiene. Then through videos and pictorial presentation\, the concept of the reproductive system of women\, menstrual cycle\, menstrual hygiene and importance of sanitary napkins was made clear to the participants. The participants thanked the CHEs for organizing the event. \nA total 270 girls and women attended the events.
