SUMMARY:Nutrition and Health Awareness Campaign with Yum!
DESCRIPTION:The Nutrition and Health Awareness Campaign\, being conducted by Smile Foundation in association with Yum!\, Employees from Oakwood Hotel Service Company visited Mission Education centre SHED in Mumbai. They shared many health tips with the children and explained about the nutritive value of different foods through interactive demonstrations. \nOn learning that most of the children were used to taking care of themselves\, with their parents being engaged in daily wage labour work\, they taught some interesting DIY (Do-It-Yourself) recipes for healthy snacks and sandwiches to the older children. The children thoroughly enjoyed the session and have even started trying some of the recipes.

SUMMARY:Masoodpur slum gets a new lease of life after devastating fire
DESCRIPTION:A Smile on Wheels mobile hospital project has been initiated in the Masoodpur slum cluster in Delhi\, where a massive fire had left more than 4000 people homeless\, destroying their shanties and belongings\, in April 2014. Smile Foundation had joined hands with the local government bodies\, civil society groups\, volunteers and a few other organizations then\, working continuously for days\, to address the immediate healthcare needs of the affected people. The slum cluster is home to migrant population\, mostly hailing from West Bengal\, working in nearby areas as domestic helps\, hawkers or scrap dealers.

SUMMARY:Value Education Workshop at Rajgad Dnyanpeeth's Dnyanankur School
DESCRIPTION:Rajgad Dnyanpeeth’s Dnyanankur English Medium School\, Pune\, Maharashtra\, invited Smile Foundation to conduct a value education session for its students. More than 350 students from classes V to X\, along with their teachers participated in the two hour session. This was the first such session to be conducted in the school and the students were highly enthusiastic and responsive throughout. They requested for further sessions before giving a thunderous applause to Smile Foundationâ€™s CFC representatives. \nSmile Foundation visits various privileged schools across India and conducts engaging sessions for the young minds\, under CFC programme. Children are sensitized in various causes\, value systems and are ushered to realize their importance in growing up as responsible citizens of the country.

The accolade is awarded ‘to recognize an NGO effort for its valuable role in skill development training & placement.’ \nThe award was conferred at ASSOCHAM’s Summit-cum-Awards on Skilling India organized on the theme – ‘REALIGNING SKILLING TOWARDS MAKE IN INDIA’. Many dignitaries and eminent panelists including Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy\, Hon’ble Minister of State\, (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship; Shri Bandaru Dattatreya\, Hon’ble Minister of State for Labour and Employment; Shri Giriraj Singh\, Hon’ble Minister of State for Micro. Small & Medium Enterprises; and Prof. S. Parasuraman\, Director\, Tata Institute of Social Science\, were attended the Summit-cum-Awards. \nASSOCHAM is one of the apex trade associations of India\, established in 1920. Having in its fold more than 400 Chambers and Trade Associations\, and serving more than 4\,50\,000 members from all over the country\, the organization represents the interests of trade and commerce in India\, and acts as an interface between industry\, government and other relevant stakeholders on policy issues and initiatives. \nThis is an appreciation with specific reference to Smile Twin e-Learning Programme (STeP) of Smile Foundation. STeP is a national level livelihood programme that trains urban underprivileged youth with market-oriented job skills such as English\, basic computer\, personality development\, retail management\, relevant soft skills etc. and makes them employed in retail and service sectors across India. \nMore than 16\,000 youth have been trained and 11\,500 have been placed in over 140 brands through 33 operational projects across 16 states of India.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Healthy Lifestyle for DPS students
DESCRIPTION:A workshop on Healthy Lifestyle was conducted at DPS\, Jalandhar in Punjab under Smile Foundationâ€™s Child for Child programme. More than 200 students from Class 8 to 12 participated actively in the workshop\, along with school principal Ms. Asha Kumar\, child counsellor Ms. Vandana Sondhi and teachers. \nFour sessions\, each of one hour\, covered issues pertaining to health\, such as the harmful effects of tobacco consumption\, the reasons why to slow down intake of junk food\, and negative fallouts of modern day technology and the ways to tackle them. The sessions were highly interactive\, enabling and encouraging the students to answer various questions and find solutions too. \nPrincipal Ms Asha Kumar and Ms Sondhi (child counsellor) assured to continue with this process of sharing and learning realizing that this is a long drawn process and one or two workshops won’t suffice. The students also expressed their desire to learn more and requested further sessions.
