SUMMARY:20 Health Camps in association with NSIC
DESCRIPTION:Twenty health camps were conducted by Smile Foundation in various parts of Delhi NCR in association with National Small Industries Corporation Limited (NSIC). This initiative is part of an Integrated Community Development Project started by Smile Foundation and NSIC and was launched in December 2011. This project focuses at the holistic development of the underprivileged living in slums of Delhi NCR\, through education\, healthcare and women empowerment. \nThese health camps that were conducted provided curative\, preventive\, promotive and referral healthcare services to the people. OPD services for prevalent common ailments\, growth check-ups for children\, treatment for malnutrient cases\, dispensing of medicines for common ailments\, dental check-ups and eye check-ups were mainly the services that were made available in these camps. \nThey were conducted in 20 different slums across Delhi NCR\, namely – Rangpuri\, Tuglakabad\, Dhaula Kuan\, Mansarovar Park\, Rohini\, Sunder Nagri\, Sastri Nagar\, Jahangir Puri\, Kalyanvas\, Tilpath\, Majnu Ka Tila\, Gurgaon\, Motiya Khan\, Khori Kingsway Camp\, Jahank Puri\, Bhalaswa\, Tahirpur\, Wazirpur\, Nand Nagri and Faridabad. \nAll the health camps received overwhelming response from the people. As many as 5021 people were benefited. \nThe objective of conducting these health camps was to create awareness of general health among the people\, providing general health care services and counseling them\, on basic healthcare and hygiene. \nMajority of people were diagnosed with various common but seriously neglected problems such as diarrhea\, cholera and cataract in the eyes. There were also a few cases\, detected with major health problems; these cases were further referred to the referral hospital.

DESCRIPTION:On 2nd November 2012 STeP Centre JSS Dharavi organized an Exposure visit At Phoenix Mall at Kurla. Total 8 Students and 3 Teachers participated in the session.Mall opened at 11 am in the meen time\, we met our ex student Deepti Dhulera at Café Coffee Day store in the same mall. \nShe is working in CCD for the Past 9 Month as an Asst Manager she gave information regarding CCD. She explained details about the Job Profile. She informed that there is vacancy available for our student in CCD as well as in aother department. \nMall is a three Storey building there are many departments in the floor. There were Reliance Refresh\, CCD\, Westside\, Lifestyle\, Levis\, McDonald\, FoodBazar\, BodyShop\, and MacSaloon. \nThen the students saw Tamil film shooting .We saw superhit Ajitkumar Actor in the mall. We gathered all the information from the departments\, and left there at 4pm and we reached home.

DESCRIPTION:On 5th November Miss. Minakshi Visited DSS with employment Opportunities . She had a talk session with the STeP students where she explained about some vacancies available at Cafe Coffee Day\, Ice cream parlor in malls and a few other retail outlets. 18 Students attended thesession. \nMiss. Minakshi shared the valuable professional inputs from various industries and corporate which has helped in preparing youths for a better career. The program was an eye opener for the students as they got lots of information and in return it was motivating and inspiring for them. The students gained various knowledge about various opportunities in the sector related to the company. As a result the session was very informative for them.The students were provided with an insight about the work culture in various industries. This also gives students opportunity for getting their career queries served by the professionals. \nShe had also taken practice interview of all the students. Later on she explained the lacking points in interview.

SUMMARY:Health camp in Guna
DESCRIPTION:A three day health camp focusing children was conducted by Smile Foundation in Ahmadapura\, Chainpura\, Babdikheda and Bhumlakhedi villages of Guna district in Madhya Pradesh. This health camp was organised in support with Gas Authority of India Limited. During the health camp various general healthcare services such as diagnosing HB\, height\, weight and sensitization on hand washing habits were provided to the children. \nSmile Foundation in support from GAIL is running an Integrated Development Project in the area\, focusing\, education and healthcare. It was observed that awareness on health and hygiene in the community has been increased and community parents took their children for the health check up. \nThis initiative by Smile Foundation was encouraged by the government officials of the area also and they also provided free HB test kits to Smile team for the better implementation of the programme.

The actors had visited the capital city for the promotion of their film Son of Sardar when they decided to celebrate the festivity with the kids from Smile Foundation and to make them feel special. They also have especially pledged to support the cause of education of underprivileged children. \nAjay has been a regular supporter of Smile Foundation’s endeavor and most of his films success is celebrated with the kids from Smile Foundation. This time also to wish Ajay and Sonakshi all the success for their film the children took a cake\, and gifted some flowers to them. The actors cut the cake along with Smile Foundation kids. They both spent quality time with the children. To cheer the children Ajay Devgn and Sonakshi Sinha also shared some of his dialogues from the film. \nSmile Foundation acknowledges and appreciates the support that actors Ajay Devgn and Sonakshi Sinha have pledged\, for the cause of Sending Every Child to School.

DESCRIPTION:On a warm Saturday afternoon\, the team from Western Digital India celebrated Diwali with the children of Mission Education center and also supported the education of the children beneficiaries of Smile Foundation. \nThe team visited the Mission Education center of Smile Foundation and celebrated the festival of lights. Activities like dance\, drawing\, singing\, rangoli making was organised. Children played various fun games like anatakshri\, tongue twisters with the teams also. The employees of Western Digital distributed chocolates among the children which the children were very happy to get. Both the employees and children enjoyed the day together.

SUMMARY:Exposure Visit at Ishanya Mall
DESCRIPTION:On 12th November 23 students from the STeP center Green Tara went to Ishanya mall in yerwada \,Pune. \nThe students started with the entrance security counter. They saw how to check bags and look after the bag deposit counter. They also saw push carts and asked “for what are these carts used?” which they were answered that they help customer to carry large items that would otherwise be difficult to carry in a bag. They visited that section first because of diwali very nice atmosphere of sailing and buying they saw items were divided into separate sections. They learned how it helps the customer locate an item soon mall not only had food items but also personal care products\, home care products\, sanitation etc. the students walked around in the aisle and observed these sections\, learning about them. \nAfter seeing all things they ask question to people working there about salary\, time and many things. At last they come to billing counter saw how they are doing the bar-code machine. The students saw a demo how an item is billed and what a bill looks like and what kind of details are printed on the bill.The students were very happy after visit.

SUMMARY:Aligarh Muslim University empowering Smile children with education
DESCRIPTION:Every child has a right to education and good health\, and to help them achieving this right Smile Foundation in collaboration with Helping Hands Society run by a group of students of Aligarh Muslim University organised a week long fund-raising campaign ‘IBADAT’ and raised 2.5 lakh. This drive was conducted under the Carpe- Diem\, Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology\, tech fest. \nSeveral students under the different faculties of the university made different teams to raise resources and provided competitive ambience to each other in order to raise maximum amount. The students used various methods of sensitization tools such as social networking sites and door to door to sensitization to sensitize the youths to give their best and spread awareness about the need of education. \nThe fund-raising drive culminated with a felicitation ceremony for the students who gave their best to raise funds for Smile Foundation. \nSmile Foundation appreciates the noble initiative taken up by the young students of Aligarh Muslim University.

The student received information regarding banking management system and use of computer in bank. They also received practical knowledge about working environment and work ethics. \nThe program was an eye opener for the students as they got lots of information and in return it was motivating and inspiring as it poured lights on the students. DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation rolled out its first Smile on Wheels mobile hospital for the state of Karnataka with support from LIC of India. Implemented by Karuna Trust this mobile hospital is providing comprehensive healthcare services for the underprivileged people of the Yemalur and Doddakanahalli areas in Karnataka. The project is a first of its kind and is covering 58\,000 people through preventive\, curative and promotive healthcare services. \nBesides ensuring the primary healthcare needs of the underprivileged population through\, a series of special health camps shall be organized on a regular interval to providce specialized medical services. Referral services are one of the highlights of this innovative programme. Deserving cases are referred to the nearby government facilities. \nThis is the 22nd Smile on Wheels project by Smile Foundation in India. Smile on wheels operates by taking well-equipped mobile hospital units along with specialized doctors\, nurses\, medical staff\, equipments and medicines to the identified villages and slums in a systematic manner.

SUMMARY:Health the greatest treasure
DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation in support with Gas Authority of India Limited organised a health camp for the beneficiaries residing around the project location in Guna. The health camp conducted provided primary and referral health care services to the patients. Around 402 people came over to the camp to avail healthcare services\, wherein eight cases of Malaria were referred to the government hospitals. All types of primary and comprehensive services had been provided to the people. \nMr. R.K. Sharma\, DGM GAIL\, Mr. O.P. Kothari\, Block Education Officer (BEO)\, Mr. Chauhan\, Block Academic Coordinator\, Mrs. Kori (CDPO\, ICDS)\, Mrs. Aabha Saxena (Block Programme Manager – NRHM)\, Mr. Purushottam Puri (Ward Member) and Mr. Lokendra Singh Block Coordinator MPJAP (Madhya Pradesh Jan Bahiyan Parishad) attended the health camp and also interacted with the beneficiaries. \nSmile health camp teams also conducted sensitization activity within the community to sensitize the people on common preventable health problems and to improve the health and hygiene of the people residing there.

DESCRIPTION:On 24th November 2012 an Employer Engagement Programme was organized at Arunodhaya center for street and working children\, Chennai. Mr. Palani Kumar from M/s. GI staffing came to interact with the students. 25 students participated in the programme. Mr.Palani Kumar spoke on setting goals for selecting a job based on qualification and needs. He gave information on preparing resume\, presenting themselves for interview\, dress code etc. Later he spoke about the company he represents and the job offers available. The session gave a very practical information to the students. \nTo Make the students well acquainted with the present working culture of various sectors helping them choose the better career option according to preferences\,Mr. Palani emphasised on the following points. \n\nMentally preparing the students to take up challenges and get ready to enter the job scenario.\nMaking them aware about the various job openings.\nInforming them about the requirements for the jobs.\nGiving them a brief about the retail\, Food& beverages\, Sales and BPO sector from the service industry.

DESCRIPTION:On 24th November 2012\, the students from the STeP center New Public School Samiti(NPSS) visited the mall and saw the various facilities available and many outlets at the Fun Republic Mall\,Gomtinagar\,Lucknow\,UP. A feedback session was conducted in detail and experiences of the students were taken through a brainstorming session. The aim of this exposure visit was to learn something about the global/centralized marketing\, Managerial skills\, and modern retailing works\, working styles\, personality development and body language of the persons working there. \nFeed back: As being a part of this exposure visit all faculty members saw a real change in the STeP students since the exposure visit to Fun Republic Mall\, Gomti Nagar. The students were amazed at this learning and will surely be enlightened to know more from future visits. It was overall a good learning experience for all of them. \nThere has been a visible cahnge in the personality and body languageof the STeP students since there visit to the mall\, they have become more confident.

SUMMARY:Employer Engagement Program
DESCRIPTION:On 26th Nov ’12 AXA Business Service team visited Arunodhaya Trust and conducted Employment Engagement Program for the STeP beneficiary. 35 STeP students along with their centre administrator and employees of Smile Foundation took part in this event. \nAs a part of the curriculum under Smile Twin e-Learning Programme\, the visit is initiated to provide a better perceptive of working environment to the students. The students received a very warm welcome from the staffs and were briefed about production process and Human resource management. Details including eligibility criteria\, selection norms\, and training and expansion opportunities in the company were shared with the students. The team also participated in awareness campaign along with the local community people and mobilized maximum number of youths about the importance of education and livelihood programs. \nThe main objective of coordinating the program was to prepare the beneficiaries mentally to take up challenges and get themselves ready to enter the job scenario. It would help the students to be to well acquainted with the present working culture of various sectors and helping them to choose the better career option according to their preferences. The whole program was very motivating as it ensured the beneficiaries that they should be enthusiastic about getting involved in such training programs as it is very important to find creative and meaningful way for them to participate so the efforts can really make a difference. They should feel that they have a positive role to play in their life and hence work hard in achieving that goal. The program was very informative and the outcome was useful as it helped the students to take the right decision about their career. The visit initiated for the students was considered as a best way for learning through their exposure.
