SUMMARY:20 Health Camps in association with NSIC
DESCRIPTION:Twenty health camps were conducted by Smile Foundation in various parts of Delhi NCR in association with National Small Industries Corporation Limited (NSIC). This initiative is part of an Integrated Community Development Project started by Smile Foundation and NSIC and was launched in December 2011. This project focuses at the holistic development of the underprivileged living in slums of Delhi NCR\, through education\, healthcare and women empowerment. \nThese health camps that were conducted provided curative\, preventive\, promotive and referral healthcare services to the people. OPD services for prevalent common ailments\, growth check-ups for children\, treatment for malnutrient cases\, dispensing of medicines for common ailments\, dental check-ups and eye check-ups were mainly the services that were made available in these camps. \nThey were conducted in 20 different slums across Delhi NCR\, namely – Rangpuri\, Tuglakabad\, Dhaula Kuan\, Mansarovar Park\, Rohini\, Sunder Nagri\, Sastri Nagar\, Jahangir Puri\, Kalyanvas\, Tilpath\, Majnu Ka Tila\, Gurgaon\, Motiya Khan\, Khori Kingsway Camp\, Jahank Puri\, Bhalaswa\, Tahirpur\, Wazirpur\, Nand Nagri and Faridabad. \nAll the health camps received overwhelming response from the people. As many as 5021 people were benefited. \nThe objective of conducting these health camps was to create awareness of general health among the people\, providing general health care services and counseling them\, on basic healthcare and hygiene. \nMajority of people were diagnosed with various common but seriously neglected problems such as diarrhea\, cholera and cataract in the eyes. There were also a few cases\, detected with major health problems; these cases were further referred to the referral hospital.

On the occasion the Mission Education centre at Kumbhiragadhia conducted a debate competition among the students. The teachers of the centre also spoke on various remarkable deeds of Gandhiji and Shastriji\, and their tireless efforts that compelled the British ruler to quit India thereby bringing Independence for the country. \nThe students also got motivated to follow the footsteps of these great personalities in every walk of their life.

SUMMARY:Exposure Visit at Panasonic
DESCRIPTION:On 9th October 2012 during the Joy of Giving week\, the youth from the STeP program of Smile Foundation were given opportunity to interact with the employees of Panasonic. Ms. Radhika Kalia\, Head- public & Corporate Relationships\, Panasonic\, took out time from her busy schedule and provided a guidance to the students of Smile Foundation Smile Twin e-Learning centers. She spoke to the children about importance of focus\, passion and dedication towards one’s career goals. She not only understood the career plans of all the students but also provided valuable suggestions for the same. \nMr. Prem Anand\, Marketing department\, gave important tips to the students about how to answer questions in a job interview. The students had an engrossed session with Mr. Anand and learnt the simple ways which can make a huge difference in their lives. \nSmile Foundation is thankful to Panasonic.

SUMMARY:Health awareness camp with GAIL
DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation organised a health camp in Ahmedpur. It was an initiative under the Integrated Development project being implemented by Smile Foundation with support from Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL). \nThe health camp was conducted to provide primary healthcare services to the underprivileged community dwellers of Ahmedpur. Mobilization\, awareness session on health and hygiene\, general health check up such as eye check up\, BP and weight check up were made available in the camp. Medicines were also distributed to the patients. This camp has benefitted over 218 people in the entire community. \nDignified government officials such as Dr. Sadhana (Block Medical Officer)\, Ms. Aabha Saxena (Block Program Manager\, NRHM) and Mr. Lokendra (Jan Abhiyan Parishad) attended the health camp. \nThe health camp was resulted into a positive impact in the village.

SUMMARY:Reaching the unreached in Patan
DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation in support from Cairn Energy rolls out a new Smile on Wheels in Khakal village of Patan district\, Gujarat. This mobile hospital is designed to take healthcare services to the doorsteps in 22 identified villages in the district. 70\,000 rural poor will benefit directly from this project. \nThis mobile hospital has a dedicated team of doctors\, nurses and other medical staff to meet immediate health care requirements of the community dwellers. Going forward\, this Smile on Wheels aims at developing in all the people living in these rural areas the importance of sound health and inculcate in them a health seeking behavior. \nCairn Energy is also supporting more Smile on Wheels\, which are operational in the rural areas of Jamnagar district of Gujarat and Barmer district of Rajasthan.

SUMMARY:Sensitization on hand washing on Global Handwashing Day
DESCRIPTION:1000 of children die in India due to diarrhea every year. Keeping in view this fact Smile Foundation in support with Cairn Energy conducted a hand washing activity on the occasion of Global Handwashing Day in Gup School\, Ghonari Nadi\, Barmer district of Rajasthan. This activity has been organised to sensitize the community\, especially children towards the importance of hand washing practices and deworming\, in order to reduce diarrhea and water born disease. \nVarious activities\, such as hand washing demonstrations\, drawing competition on a theme of health and hygiene and a sanitation pledge has been conducted to sensitize children on handwashing with soap as a key approach to disease prevention.

DESCRIPTION:‘Padharo Mahari Lado’ (‘Welcome\, My Dear Daughter’)\, the year-long campaign is launched in Barmer\, Rajasthan by Smile Foundation\, National Rural Health Mission\, Department of Health Govt. Rajasthan\, Help Age India and Cairn India . The campaign aims to celebrate the birth of girl child in the district where in when a girl child is born in the district; the community will celebrate the same. \nZilla Parishad Chairperson Mrs. Madan Kaur\, Ms. Shama Bano (Pradhan – Chouhtan)\, Chief Medical & Health Officer Dr. Hemraj Soni\, senior official from Cairn India and Smile Foundation welfare teams were present during the launch event in Barmer town. \nOn the occasion special gifts for girl children such as safety kits including soaps\, quilts\, mosquito nets etc. were presented. \nNavratri is being celebrated in India which also marks worshipping Goddess Durga. The occasion has been chosen for this intensive year-long campaign in an endeavour to reinstate the dignity of being a Girl Child in our society\, which should stay forever.

The employees from Alcoa spent a day with Smile Foundation children playing and enjoying. Alcoa also pledged to support the education of the children beneficiaries of Smile Foundation. \nEmployees of Alcoa were teamed with the Smile children and they played games and races like: balloon race\, tower making through straws\, 3-legged race and many other. The sportsmanship and the spirit of togetherness made the employees of Alcoa to take the best foot forward to make their teams win.
