SUMMARY:20 Health Camps in association with NSIC
DESCRIPTION:Twenty health camps were conducted by Smile Foundation in various parts of Delhi NCR in association with National Small Industries Corporation Limited (NSIC). This initiative is part of an Integrated Community Development Project started by Smile Foundation and NSIC and was launched in December 2011. This project focuses at the holistic development of the underprivileged living in slums of Delhi NCR\, through education\, healthcare and women empowerment. \nThese health camps that were conducted provided curative\, preventive\, promotive and referral healthcare services to the people. OPD services for prevalent common ailments\, growth check-ups for children\, treatment for malnutrient cases\, dispensing of medicines for common ailments\, dental check-ups and eye check-ups were mainly the services that were made available in these camps. \nThey were conducted in 20 different slums across Delhi NCR\, namely – Rangpuri\, Tuglakabad\, Dhaula Kuan\, Mansarovar Park\, Rohini\, Sunder Nagri\, Sastri Nagar\, Jahangir Puri\, Kalyanvas\, Tilpath\, Majnu Ka Tila\, Gurgaon\, Motiya Khan\, Khori Kingsway Camp\, Jahank Puri\, Bhalaswa\, Tahirpur\, Wazirpur\, Nand Nagri and Faridabad. \nAll the health camps received overwhelming response from the people. As many as 5021 people were benefited. \nThe objective of conducting these health camps was to create awareness of general health among the people\, providing general health care services and counseling them\, on basic healthcare and hygiene. \nMajority of people were diagnosed with various common but seriously neglected problems such as diarrhea\, cholera and cataract in the eyes. There were also a few cases\, detected with major health problems; these cases were further referred to the referral hospital.

SUMMARY:Smile Health Camps with TechShastra
DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation in association with TechShastra organised three Smile Health Camps for making healthcare affordable and accessible to the underprivileged slum dwellers in three slums of Delhi and Mumbai namely Tuglakabad and Rangpuri Pahari (Delhi) and Sion Koliwada (Mumbai). \nThese health camps that were conducted provided preventive\, promotive\, curative and referral health care services to the people who have less medical facilities available for them. \nDuring the camp It was found that in the communities most people suffer from skin infections\, fever\, cold & cough\, dehydration\, anemia and malnutrition which anyway are common diseases but seriously neglected by the people who are busy earning livelihood for themselves. \nThe doctors provided immediate treatment and gave proper medication to all the people who attended the camp. Growth check-ups for children\, treatment for malnutrition cases\, medicines for common ailments\, dental check-ups and eye check-ups were some of the services that were provided. Some people were diagnosed with serious health problems which further were referred to the referral hospitals. A total of 771 people were benefited from these health camps. \nSmile health camp teams also conducted sensitization activity within the community to sensitize the people on common preventable health problems and to improve the health and hygiene of the people residing there.

SUMMARY:Mother's Day celebration with Fever 104 FM
DESCRIPTION:On the occasion of Mother’s Day children beneficiaries of Smile Foundation were invited by Fever 104 FM in Delhi and Mumbai\, to join the radio crew and celebrate the special day by dedicating it to their mothers. \nThe children were given a brief educational tour of the studio by DJ Avinash in Delhi and DJ Urmin in Mumbai. They were given a real time experience about how a radio station works and how different people are involved in the making of a radio show. The children also recorded messages for their mothers and recited some self-composed poem thanking and appreciating their Mother’s contributions in their lives. \nThese messages and songs were played on air for the entire day.

DESCRIPTION:On the eve of Mother’s Day\, renowned Odissi dancer Kiran Segal celebrated the success of her recently authored book\, “Zohra Segal: Fatty” with Smile Foundation’s children beneficiaries. An interactive session was conducted wherein the children asked Ms. Segal about all her dancing career\, how she managed to train herself in such a difficult dance form and yet continue with academics\, why did she think of writing a book\, etc; to which Ms. Segal responded with great patience and very happily. \nKiran Segal has written a book on her mother and celebrated actor Zohra Segal. This book was published on Zohra Segals’s 100th birthday. \nSpeaking for the occasion Kiran fondly shared some memories – “My mother has been strict all these years. She used to take me to Prithviraj Theatre after my school hours and also put to dance sessions. I used to hate it. But when I look back I realize how my mother has relentlessly shaped me as a person over all these years”.

DESCRIPTION:On May 11\, 2012\,STeP students from Arunodhaya Trust went for exposure visit to KRISNA BHOG PVT LTD. Divya G Medar chief executive of KRISNA BHOG PVT Ltd took an interactive session with the 25 students where they groomed the students about the process of different food products and also discussed about the ongoing roles and responsibilities of the organisation. It was mainly for the purpose of giving them an exposure to the market. where the interaction was interactive as a result the visit came as a great motivation to the group of beneficiaries who were positive about the future scenario. \nThey also mentioned about the vacancies available in Gachibowli and Kuakatpally Centre. Student’s enthustically participated and had an enormous learning experience.The students were very excite about the visit.

SUMMARY:Smile for girl child at the World 10K Bangalore Marathon
DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation participated in the World 10K Bangalore Marathon and campaigned for the cause of girl child education. This was the first marathon for the Garden city and saw huge participation from the Bangaloreans. Participating in marathons is an effort from Smile Foundation to bring the privileged mass on a single platform to support a cause. And to make them aware that a proactive effort can bring difference in lives of many who are less privileged. \nSmita Kalappa\, National Director-Child For Child\, Smile Foundation speaking about the participation said\, ” We made an honest effort to sensitize people about a very alarming issue of education for the girl child\, we encouraged people to make a fitter tomorrow by understanding their social responsibility as an individual and connect with the cause close to their heart .We encouraged people to be the change. As an event this certainly is a great way to make us think that it’s time we be one and bring the change.” \nSmile acknowledges the gesture individuals showed in supporting the cause.

SUMMARY:Integrated Community Development project in Guna\, Madhya Pradesh\, launched
DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation with support from Gas Authority of India Limited has started an Integrated Community Development project in the state of Madhya Pradesh. This project is operational in five villages of the state namely – Ahmedapur\, Bublakhedi\, Bawarikheda\, Chainpura and Padarkheri\, of Guna district. The project operation for Guna district was launched in May 30\, 2012. \nThis integrated project is focused on providing education to the underprivileged children and primary healthcare services to the people\, especially children and women in the identified areas. The project in Guna district will be providing education to over 200 children through bridge education and remedial education centers. Along with this\, it will also provide healthcare to over 1000 people in the district through regular health camps. \nDuring the launch of the project a health camp was conducted and uniforms\, books and bags were also distributed to the children already enrolled in the project.
