SUMMARY:Smile Foundation associates with IIT Roorkee for its Annual Fest 2011
DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation associated with IIT Roorkee for the institute’s esteemed and popular annual fest Tarang. This association was mainly done to conduct a sensitization programme on Girl Child. \nThe sensitization was done through an interesting puppet show in the college auditorium. There were around 300 students to watch the puppet show and each and every one of them appreciated the show for its content & presentation. \nSmile’s merchandize products ‘Chanze’ were also exhibited during the fest. The slogan T-shirts became the most popular among all the products. All the students seemed to have understood that the merchandize was meant for the underprivileged children and hence were more than willing to buy and individually promote the merchandize and in turn Smile Foundation’s cause. \nThis association is certainly a special one and Smile Foundation looks forward to a long relationship with the esteemed institute.

SUMMARY:Activity session on HIV AIDS for the underprivileged youth by AIESEC \,DU
DESCRIPTION:An interactive session on HIV/AIDS was held by the foreign interns and members of AIESEC Delhi University\, at SMILE foundation`s step center located in Paschim Vihar and Faridabad on 10th March and 16thMarch 2011\, the session was held with a positive and uninhibited atmosphere where the interns\, coming from all over the world and trained by the best NGOs of Delhi on HIV AIDS talked to the students\, about the disease falling in the age group of 17-22 years. At the beginning of the session\, the audience was told about the relevance of AIDS awareness in our country\, which is one of the most affected by the virus. The students were informed about the HIV virus\, origin of AIDS\, its incurability\, the window period\, common methods of transmission of the virus\, its infestation and growth inside our body and the terminal condition of AIDS. \nThey also came to know about the common misconceptions which our society has about AIDS victims. They realized that basic preventive measures like insisting on the use of sterilized or new needles\, not sharing razor blades\, getting regular blood checkups and getting a background check during blood donation or transfusion could go a long way to prevent spreading the disease The students asked a lot of questions on the topics of the presentation and got in depth knowledge on our immune system\, AIDS and the dangers it possesses. They also learnt that HIV only spreads through the blood\, it can’t survive outside. \nOverall the session was a success with the audience being extremely receptive to the new facts and ideas they heard and going away with the conviction that they too could play their part in creating an AIDS free India by being responsible students\, banishing misconceptions and spreading awareness among their peers and society.
