SUMMARY:Smile kids compete with the nation in T-shirt designing
DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation associated with Cotton Council International as partner for a pan India t-shirt designing competition\, TeeZing. The competition was held in 6 cities across India – Delhi\, Kolkata\, Chandigarh\, Ahmedabad\, Pune and Hyderabad. \nThis month long competition offered every participant – young and old\, a chance to showcase their creativity and sketching skills. A formidable team – including leading names from the creative\, design and fashion fraternity\, was in place to judge the contest. These judges were present at all the competition centres and shared tips with the children to help them bring their creativity to life in designs. Winners of the competition were awarded with cash prizes. \nMr. Sachit Bhatia\, Senior Manager Representative\, South Asia\, Cotton Council International\, stated “Cotton has inspired a lot of creations in the Indian fashion industry and to take this association to a new level\, we have on board a group of fashion designers from various parts of the country who are traveling to different cities and mentoring the kids of Smile Foundation for participation in TeeZing so that they can come up with their best cotton creations.

DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation has organized a special school exchange programme between Mallya Aditi International School and Gnaneshwari Vidya Mandir\, Banaglore. This exchange programme\, for an entire year\, will provide an interactive platform for students of both the schools through academic and creative activities. \nThe main objective of this programme is to raise awareness among the privileged students about the deprivation and poverty of their marginalized counterparts\, and in the process build more responsible and sensitive citizens. \nIn this programme 11th standard students from Mallya Aditi International School\, will be interacting with the students of Gnaneshwari Vidya Mandir\, promoted by Nava Karnataka Social Service Trust\, weekly once\, and helping them with English lessons\, music composition and lyrics\, fine arts and sports activities. \nThis programme has been specifically designed to improve children’s understanding about the importance of equality and unity\, based on cooperation and brotherhood.

DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation celebrated World Population Day emphasizing its call on “Beti Bhi Apni Hai” once again\, at Shipra Mall in Indirapuram\, Ghaziabad. “Beti Bhi Apni Hai” is the flagship movement of Swabhiman – the woman and girl child empowerment programme of Smile Foundation. \nIn tandem with this year’s UN theme of “the importance of data collection” Smile Foundation conducted a live opinion poll and survey. This poll was conducted with over 200 people filing their opinion on “the early marriage of girls”. This opinion poll will now be formatted into an analysis study and the report will be further used as a source for the girl child empowerment programme. \nIn addition a street play was performed by a group of boys and girls on the theme of “early marriage of girls and its consequences”. The street play got an overwhelming response from the mall visitors. The celebration was closed with people signing a mass pledge for the empowerment of women and girls.

DESCRIPTION:40th Giffoini Film Festival\, Europe’s largest children’s film festival\, had invited ‘I am Kalam’\, the feature film produced by Smile Foundation\, to compete in the 10+ elements category – Gryphon Award. The film festival was held in the provincial town of Giffoni Valle Piana\, in South-west Italy\, between July 18 and 23\, 2010. \nGiffoni Film Festival was established in 1971 to promote and develop cinema for young people\, elevating it from the marginal position it had\, back in those days. What makes its concept unique is its jury comprising exclusively of young people. Over the years the number of jurors has out grown 3000 people coming from over 44 different countries embracing all the continents. The age of jurors ranges from 3 to 17 and they are placed into four official competitive sections according to their age group. The jurors view\, assess\, discuss about and vote for films in the sections. \n‘I am Kalam’ was included in the Elements + 10 category dedicated to jurors aged between 10 to 12 years. \n‘I am Kalam’ was world premiered at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival in May 2010. DESCRIPTION:HCL conducted a special interview training session for STeP students at the AROH centre in Noida. The session was conducted by HCL employees for 3 hours\, where they explained the young boys and girls of STeP about the pre-requisites of answering an interview well. \nThe employees explained that a candidate’s professionalism and performance in the interview are considered the most important in the hiring procedure. The students were also briefed about the change in job seeking trends in the current scenario and the ways to deal with them. \nThe session began with a round of formal introduction. This was followed by a detailed slide presentation of how to best attempt an interview. There were details training the students how to be dressed appropriately and have the correct body language for interviews\, how to develop an effective resume and other dos and don’ts of interviews. A group discussion was also conducted on gate-crashing\, first impressions and overcoming hesitations. \nSince these students would soon be facing interviews on the completion of their STeP course\, a mock interview session was also conducted. The 3 hour long session came to an end with an open discussion of all career related doubts and queries. The STeP students discussed their career concerns with the HCL employees and were very happy with the counseling they were given and appreciate their efforts and contribution.
