SUMMARY:Taking care of dental health
DESCRIPTION:Oral hygiene is an important part aspect of our overall health and taking good care of our teeth keeps us away from various diseases. It is especially important to teach children to take proper care of their oral hygiene and also conduct regular check up of their oral hygiene. Keeping in mind the same a Dental Health camp was conducted for the students of a Mission Education centre in Tamil Nadu. The doctor conducted a regular dental checkup and prescribed medicines for those suffering from teeth problems and references for problems such as dental cavity etc. Nearly 397 Beneficiaries participated in the health camp and utilized the benefits. The doctor also advised the students to brush twice a day and avoid sticky\, sweet things after brushing and rinse their mouth after every meal. Steps to reduce dropout rates\, make learning more fun\, sensitizing the parents etc was discussed along with methods to make the learning process more effective. DESCRIPTION:National Nutrition Week is observed every year from 1st September to 7th September to make people aware about the importance of nutrition for the Human Body and well being of health. DESCRIPTION:It is very important to teach to be alert of as number of things like inappropriate gestures\, touches and speaking up about any such incidents. A workshop was conducted for the children of a school in Delhi regarding the same. The children were told about the various types of touches and how they should immediately alert an elder if any such incidents happen. The counseling was important because many a times children are intimidated by adults and are scared to speak up. The children were also asked to keep a look out for other young children who might be a target for any such incidents. \nUnder the Child For Child programme\, Smile Foundation visits various schools and conducts engaging sessions for the young minds. It sensitizes children towards various causes and let them realize their privileged status. \nCFC currently reaches out to nearly one million privileged children in 900 schools spread across 417 districts of India\, every year. In addition\, their parents and teachers are also involved in the process. The programme has today reached out to each part of India with the exception of Lakshadweep.

DESCRIPTION:A health workshop was conducted for the women of Kunchikorve\, Mumbai. The women residing in this area are not well educated in the matters of personal hygiene and do little to maintain it which results in a lot of infections like UTI etc in young women. The workshop was conducted by health experts who talked about menstrual problems\, how to maintain hygiene and importance of proper nutrition for women. The women raised a lot of queries which were answered by the experts. the entire workshop proved to be successful for these underprivileged women who learned a lot. \nSwabhiman\, meaning self-respect in English\, was initiated in 2005 to address these challenges through a simple yet effective approach. DESCRIPTION:The Amani India Project partnered with Yale Centre for Emotional Intelligence to weave their programme into music making curriculum\, was launched in Delhi with Smile Foundation and Children in Harmony. \nThis is an initiative through which children learn to identify\, comprehend and manage their emotions through music – the project brought together teachers\, student mentors\, and schoolchildren. The project focuses on music theory\, music practice and its association with emotional intelligence training. \nActivities included ice-breaking sessions\, jam sessions\, song composition and practice sessions\, working with mood meters\, performing to the different songs and group recitals. \nPalak Muchhal\, celebrity playback singer\, attended the event and actively trained\, guided and collaborated with the young artists – adding value to their different song compositions. \nSantanu Mishra\, Co- Founder and Executive Trustee\, Smile Foundation says\, “Children learnt to fashion their own ‘do it yourself’ instruments from objects as they composed music and lyrics. Songs were focused on empathizing with people who are different. SUMMARY:Amani Project launches its first programme in India with Smile Foundation
DESCRIPTION:The Amani India Project partnered with Yale Centre for Emotional Intelligence to weave their programme into music making curriculum\, was launched in Delhi with Smile Foundation and Children in Harmony. \nThis is an initiative through which children learn to identify\, comprehend and manage their emotions through music – the project brought together teachers\, student mentors\, and schoolchildren. The project focuses on music theory\, music practice and its association with emotional intelligence training. \nActivities included ice-breaking sessions\, jam sessions\, song composition and practice sessions\, working with mood meters\, performing to the different songs and group recitals. \nPalak Muchhal\, celebrity playback singer\, attended the event and actively trained\, guided and collaborated with the young artists – adding value to their different song compositions. \nSantanu Mishra\, Co- Founder and Executive Trustee\, Smile Foundation says\, “Children learnt to fashion their own ‘do it yourself’ instruments from objects as they composed music and lyrics. Songs were focused on empathizing with people who are different. Our objective was to help them become ‘activists’ – activist artists who put into motion all of the new equity skills they’ve learned in the Amani Project\, specifically around (but not limited to) gender.” \nSmile Foundation is a national level development organisation reaching out to more than 600\,000 underprivileged children\, youth and women directly every year through more than 250 welfare projects on subjects such as education\, healthcare\, youth employability\, and women empowerment across 25 states of India. Adopting a life cycle approach of development\, Smile Foundation focuses its interventions on children\, their families and the community.

SUMMARY:Christmas celebration at Chandigarh school
DESCRIPTION:School children in Chandigarh celebrate Christmas Day amid much fun and joy at a school in Chandigarh. The children were surprised by the arrival of Santa Claus who spread the cheer of Christmas. The children also cut a Christmas cake and enjoyed the day. The children from Smile Foundation interacted with the privileged children of the school. Such activities are organized to reduce the divide between the underprivileged and privileged children by organizing such group activities and focuses on sensitizing the privileged children to reach out to their counter parts who might not get the best of facilities. The children had much fun together and the event was a success. \nUnder Child for Child programme\, Smile Foundation visits various schools and conducts engaging sessions for the young minds. The workshop was attended by Smile Employee – Mr. Mukesh George he says\, ‘As a trainer and facilitator under CTGA\, one needs to know the difference between service delivery and mobilising support\, and this is my key learning in this workshop. SUMMARY:Fourth Edition of Smile International Film Festival concludes amid much fanfare
DESCRIPTION:The fourth edition of the week-long celebration of Good Cinema – Smile International Film Festival for Children and Youth (SIFFCY) started on the 10th of December and ended on the 16th of December 2018 at the Siri Fort Auditorium in New Delhi. SIFFCY 2018 showcased 150+ critically acclaimed films from more than 50 countries to an audience of over 20\,000 children. \nThe occasion was graced by the super excited school children across Delhi/NCR\, SIFFCY Chairman Santanu Mishra (Co-Founder Smile Foundation)\, accompanied by Festival Director Jitendra Mishra\, celebrity chef Vikas Khanna and the eminent jury including Jill Samuels\, Marta Kraus\, Volodymyr Diagilev\, Marketa Pasmova\, Josep Arbiol\, Jaroslava HYNŠTOVÁ\, Elham Shirvani\, Prof. Dragan Milinkovic Fimon\, Hilde Steenssens and Lawrence David Foldes. \nSIFFCY 2018 also witnessed exemplary workshops like – Role of Cinema in Peace Building and a photography workshop. Trainees of Smile Foundation’s STeP programme also had an unique learning experience to be a part of Skill Development session conducted by NSDC National Skill Development Corporation. \nThe Sustainability Conclave 2018 also happened on 14th December as a part of SIFFCY where the eminent panel members from the esteemed organizations participated in the discussion on the topics like: ‘Tech For Good’\, ‘Women Empowerment: Fostering Entrepreneurship’\, ‘CSR aligning to SDG’. \nThe festival’s success was made possible with support from various partners. International Organizations like Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences\, Student Academy Awards\, Wild Geese Foundation\, CIFEJ\, European Children’s Film Association were the Organization Partners. The festival partners were Schlingel International Film Festival\, Zlin Film Festival\, BUFF International Film Festival\, CINEKID\, KINOLUB Film Festival for Children and Youth\, MICE\, Olympia International Film Festival for Children and Young People and Dytiatko International Children`s Television Festival. DESCRIPTION:Youth from STeP centre in Mumbai went out for an exposure visit to the Seawood Mall. The trainees interacted with managers and staff of the major retail brands outlets from the mall. They were oriented on work culture\, sales promotion strategies\, and client handling. DESCRIPTION:National Girl Child Day is celebrated to encourage people to give equal opportunities to girl child regarding education\, healthcare\, nutrition etc. Smile Foundation celebrated National Girl Child Day on the 24th of January 2019 at all the Mission Education centre across the country by engaging in various activities like poster making\, painting around the theme of girl child\, female feticide\, lack of equal opportunities\, child-marriage etc. \nThe activities were conducted to sensitize the children about their roles and responsibilities towards building a better society and build the practice of inclusion of one and all. Mission Education is a national level programme of Smile Foundation\, which is committed to providing basic education and healthcare to underprivileged children. \nSmile Foundation is an NGO in India directly benefitting over 750\,000 children and their families every year\, through more than 350 live welfare projects on education\, healthcare\, livelihood and women empowerment\, in over 1000 remote villages and slums across 25 states of India.
