SUMMARY:Swabhiman activities benefits men\, women and the society
DESCRIPTION:Swabhiman project titled “Empowering Women and Adolescent Girls Through Reproductive Health Education and Services” in Surat Nagar phase 2 in Gurugram\, with the aim to empower women and girl by generating awareness and providing access to quality reproductive and sexual health care. In addition\, male involvement and their sensitization is an integral part. The focus beneficiary groups included adolescent (10-19 years)\, women in reproductive age (20-49 years) and men (20-49 years). \nThrough this project 16\,465 people reached extensively and sensitized on reproductive and sexual health. 403 contraceptives & 286 sanitary napkins were distributed to promote practice of family planning and hygiene. 1315 people received free health services through periodic health camps. 131 pregnant women and 119 lactating mothers were constantly guided for proper Ante Natal and Post Natal Care. 931 community members sensitized on reproductive and sexual health issues through BCC\, and there was celebration of important days & workshops were conducted by health experts. Approximately 1000 people availed free of cost health services through periodic health camps that imbibed a health seeking behavior among the community members.

SUMMARY:School health camp for the children of Ludhiana
DESCRIPTION:A school health camp was recently conducted at a school in Ludhiana on the 29th of November 2017. An eye check up was conducted for the students to check whether or not they had clear vision and general check-up was conducted for all children. A short documentary was also screened where in the children were taught the difference in good and bad touch. Children greatly benefitted from the health camp because the parents of most of the children who study there are underprivileged and cannot afford to visit the doctor at short intervals due to their financial conditions. \nSmile on Wheels programme at present has 34 operational projects in 265 remote villages and urban slums across India\, directly benefitting over 400\,000 lives in a year. \nSmile Foundation is a national level development organisation directly benefitting over 400\,000 children and their families every year\, through more than 200 live welfare projects on education\, healthcare\, livelihood and women empowerment\, in over 950 remote villages and slums across 25 states of India.

DESCRIPTION:An exposure visit1 was organized for Swabhiman scholars on the 20th of December 2017. The first place visited was National Science Center where the scholars explored a variety of exhibits through the various sections like Human Biology gallery\, Fun Science Library\, Heritage and Dinosaur gallery\, Nuclear Science gallery\, Revolution gallery\, etc. The Center is a platform for showcasing the varied features of the world of science. The scholars tried the various hands-on exhibits that helped them understand the many principles of science used in day to day life. \nThe next place the scholars visited was Humayun’s Tomb. The scholars explored the whole walled enclosure\, the garden squares and the dome structure. The scholars acknowledged the effort for organizing the interesting visit to such places as they were able to learn about varied things. \nSwabhiman\, meaning self-respect in English\, was initiated in 2005 to address these challenges through a simple yet effective approach. The programme is specifically aimed at realization of both individual and collective self-esteem and inner strength for marginalised and socially excluded women and adolescent girls through innovative community practices.

SUMMARY:Mega Health Camp for the people of Vikaspuri
DESCRIPTION:People living in slums and rural areas are often prone to many communicable as well as curable diseases which in later stages become life threatening due to the lack of treatment. The people living in rural areas and urban slums many a times do not want to avail facilities in the hospital as it means losing a day’s wage and suffer in silence. To curb this problem Smile on Wheels mobile hospital conducted a mega health camp for the people living in the urban slums of Vikaspuri\, Delhi. More than 850 people were treated for various ailments by a team of 9 specialist doctors who were assisted by a 9 member Par- medic team and 10 volunteers. Specialized services like eye check-up\, identifying cataract patients and referring them to hospitals\, distribution of spectacles after eye check-up\, dental care\, pathological and gynecological services and orthopedic services were provided to the people. Most of the people treated were daily wage laborers\, women who worked as maids\, children and aged people who were also made aware of various ways on how to eat healthy and inculcate healthy habits to keep diseases at bay. \nSmile on Wheels programme at present has 34 operational projects in 265 remote villages and urban slums across India\, directly benefitting over 400\,000 lives in a year.

SUMMARY:Community Health camp organized for the people of Jammu and Kashmir
DESCRIPTION:A six day community health camp was organized for the people residing in various towns in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir. Inaccessibility of hospitals due to the strenuous walks up and down the mountains makes it impossible for the people living in the remote villages to avail healthcare services. To make healthcare services easily available Smile on Wheels mobile hospital conducted a door to door visit to the community residing in Udhampur and services like routine health check-up\, blood sugar check-up were provide; counseling and sensitizing activities were conducted for the residents along with which anemia & personal hygiene sessions were also conducted for the women. People were greatly benefitted from the various services provided. \nSmile on Wheels programme at present has 34 operational projects in 265 remote villages and urban slums across India\, directly benefitting over 400\,000 lives in a year.

SUMMARY:Ringing in healthy hopes this New Year the Annual Bhilwara Mega Health Camp gets a kick-start
DESCRIPTION:The annual health camp conducted at Bhilwara\, Rajasthan every year got a kick start on the 5th of January 2018. For 10 days\, every year the remote village of Shahpura Block\, Bhilwara District\, Rajasthan\, is turned into a hospital. More than 20\,000 people from villages near and far line up to receive free healthcare services at the multi-disciplinary Mega Health Camp. Over 100 specialist doctors and paramedical staff from surgery\, ophthalmology\, gynaecology\, dentistry\, orthopaedics\, medicine\, ENT\, anesthesia\, radiology\, paediatrics and pathology volunteer their services at the camp. Prosthetics and wheelchairs are distributed to the specially-abled people and blankets are provided to the destitute. Besides providing medical check-up\, lab test and surgery facilities and medicines\, the Mega Health Camp also provides free of cost accommodation and food for all 10 days to the villagers. \nSmile on Wheels programme at present has 34 operational projects in 265 remote villages and urban slums across India\, directly benefitting over 400\,000 lives in a year.

DESCRIPTION:A new Smile on Wheels Mobile hospital project has been launched in Sonbhadra district\, Uttar Pradesh. \nThe project will make healthcare services accessible at the doorsteps of families living in 12 villages in the district\, including Baburi\, banki\, Suwarsuth\, Lahwua and Cherui. DESCRIPTION:A self defense training camp was conducted for the girls of Shri Ram J. J. Camp & Nithari. The training was conducted to boost the self confidence of the girls and to make them able to act in unfavorable situations. The girls were taught simple ways of self defense and they were also spoken to about tackling situations in which they found themselves to be under any kind of harassment.
