SUMMARY:Swabhiman activities benefits men\, women and the society
DESCRIPTION:Swabhiman project titled “Empowering Women and Adolescent Girls Through Reproductive Health Education and Services” in Surat Nagar phase 2 in Gurugram\, with the aim to empower women and girl by generating awareness and providing access to quality reproductive and sexual health care. In addition\, male involvement and their sensitization is an integral part. The focus beneficiary groups included adolescent (10-19 years)\, women in reproductive age (20-49 years) and men (20-49 years). \nThrough this project 16\,465 people reached extensively and sensitized on reproductive and sexual health. 403 contraceptives & 286 sanitary napkins were distributed to promote practice of family planning and hygiene. 1315 people received free health services through periodic health camps. 131 pregnant women and 119 lactating mothers were constantly guided for proper Ante Natal and Post Natal Care. 931 community members sensitized on reproductive and sexual health issues through BCC\, and there was celebration of important days & workshops were conducted by health experts. Approximately 1000 people availed free of cost health services through periodic health camps that imbibed a health seeking behavior among the community members.

SUMMARY:Medical camp conducted for women at Bangalore
DESCRIPTION:A medical camp was conducted for Swabhiman Bangalore on the 10th of March 2017. The benefits provided in the camps consisted of full medical care which included OPD\, supply of drugs\, dressings\, pathological and radiological investigations (diabetic\, hemoglobin\, ECG\, Nebulization\, urine and blood check up)\, antenatal and postnatal services. 1 case was also referred to BBH for Neurologist and for MRI scan. Special care was given to the patients and emergency treatment was started for the needy patients. 47 women\, 8 men and 11 children attended the camp.

SUMMARY:Career Counseling Sessions held for STeP students
DESCRIPTION:Counseling sessions had been conducted in centers of Mumbai and Bengaluru. A total of 12 career counseling sessions were held. Interaction with youth on personality development\, soft skills and their future career was done by personnel’s from various organizations. Sessions were taken up on development of confidence\, facing interviews\, decision making & to take jobs in their field of interest. The sessions helped in motivating these students to go forth with different career choices.

SUMMARY:A day out at the museum for Mission education children
DESCRIPTION:Children from mission Education center Karnataka visited the Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum on the 18th of March 2017. A total of 30 students were accompanied by 3 teachers. The children visited various exhibition halls in the museum to look at engines of various cars\, machines used in industry\, a jet aircraft engine\, and other mechanical devices. The children also saw exhibits on the science of sound\, optics\, fluids\, math and perception etc. It was a fun filled day for the children and they also learnt a lot.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrating World Day for Water with Remedial students. \nOn 22nd of March 2017 World Day for Water was celebrated by Mission Education center\, Chandigarh by teaching the students the importance of water conservation in water-scant countries in the world. \nTheir teacher Ms. Nidhi delivered an awareness talk on the issue of shortage of drinking water and its contaminants. Coordinator Mrs. Jasdeep Kaur also spoke to the children on daily attitudes and practices that contribute to saving water. A poster making competition on Save Water was also conducted with students on the importance of good hygiene\, sanitation and conservation of water.

SUMMARY:Eye care and cataract detection camp at Bilaspur and Palampur
DESCRIPTION:A special eye care cum cataract detection camp was conducted at Palampur and Bilaspur\, Himachal Pradesh from the 6th to 10th of April 2017. A total of 449 elderly people attended the camp at the cataract detection camp of which 120 patients were identified for surgery. Special tests and screenings were done before conducting the surgery so that the best possible treatment could be rendered to the people. All the surgeries were completed successfully and the people were greatly benefitted from the camp and were happy that their vision was restored.

SUMMARY:Telstra employees and Smile children spend a fun day together
DESCRIPTION:A sports day was organized for the kids of Mission Education centre in Mumbai. 10-12 employees from Telstra took part in the activities. A game of Dog & Bone was played to break the ice between the employees and the children which was followed by more games like marble and spoon\, sack race etc. Winners were given prizes and both the kids and the volunteers had a gala time all throughout the day.

SUMMARY:Hand washing is the way to hygiene
DESCRIPTION:Hand-washing is one of the most basic ways to maintain hygiene. A team of Swabhiman volunteers reached St. Soldier Public School on the 22nd of April 2017 to conduct a hand-washing workshop and also to address other issues regarding health and hygiene. \nThe children were informed about the importance of proper hand washing and were taught steps to do the same. Visual media was used to aid the process of information exchange.

SUMMARY:Flying high with Indigo
DESCRIPTION:The 12 cabin crew members from Indigo were in for a surprise when they walked into the Mission Education center in Delhi and were greeted with shiny\, smiling faces. The entire team was present to support child education and conducted a fun story telling session with the children. The children were given chart papers to put their imagination on paper and narrate a story based on their drawings. Refreshments were provided to the students at the end of the programme. The children had immense fun and so did the team from Indigo.

DESCRIPTION:Say No to Child Labour\, Say Yes to School” campaign was held at Wardha on 30th April 2017 on Sunday. Nearly 17 to 18 children from slum area of ‘Nalwadi’\, Wardha participated enthusiastically in this campaign along with volunteers from Smile Foundation. The children held flash cards with various slogans related to Anti Child Labour. Other people like Mr. Sandeep Singh Thakur from Pratham Education Foundation and Mr. Sengare who is a Professor in Wardha Engineering College also joined in the campaign to support the cause.

DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation children were invited to celebrate the birthday of their favourite cartoon character – Bheem at Yoga By the Bay with Dr. Mickey Mehta and Shaina Nc. Our kids stretched it out with the characters and later joined them for a wonderful cake cutting celebration. Bheem along with Mickey Mehta and Shaina NC also pledged their support for the campaign ‘Say No to Child Labour’. SUMMARY:Skilled & trained\, young women in Mamandur begin their journey of empowerment
DESCRIPTION:235 women in Mamandur\, Tamil Nadu\, successfully completed Smile Foundation’s Vocational Training programme\, supported by the PepsiCo Foundation. The convocation ceremony was held in presence of eminent guests\, local authorities and community representatives\, where the women were awarded not just certificates\, but also a sewing machine each – a small support for them to achieve their big dreams. \nEach one of these women has faced her own struggles to reach here – from poverty and hunger to violence and abuse. Today\, by gaining the life skills and confidence to lead an independent and empowered life\, they have won half the battle. Some of these women have already taken up their first jobs with reputed companies. \nWhile two batches of women have already passed out\, a third batch is currently enrolled at the centre. In addition to the vocational training programme\, the Pepsi Co Foundation is also supporting the school health programme and Smile on Wheels mobile hospital project in the village of Mamandur as a sustained effort to benefit the marginalized population.

SUMMARY:Drama\, songs\, paintings and summer fun at camp
DESCRIPTION:Summer camp was organized for the children of a Mission Education center from the 18th to the 20th of May 2017. Various activities were conducted during the three days like painting\, singing\, reading story books and writing stories. The children were also given a chance to show their dramatic skills. \nThe children were supported by the teachers in the learning process and were provided with all required stationary and actively participated in the learning process. The children expressed their happiness that they could learn a lot of new things apart from what they usually learnt in the classroom.

To commemorate the celebrations children from Smile Foundation joined in the festivities along with Bollywood celebrity Tanishaa Mukerji. \nThe Add Hope Initiative is a global drive by KFC to create awareness and raise funds to provide meals for underprivileged children. DESCRIPTION:Hundreds of children and families from the brick kiln factories of Kalyan\, Maharashtra received free healthcare facilities at their doorsteps on the 20th of May 2017. Primarily occupied in working at the brick kilns\, these families remain exposed to many hazardous health conditions. To combat such diseases the Smile on Wheels mobile hospital which makes regular rounds of the area is powered with a team of qualified doctor\, nurse\, lab technician\, and pharmacist. Regular counseling and awareness sessions are also conducted for the people.

Then through videos and pictorial presentation\, the concept of the reproductive system of women\, menstrual cycle\, menstrual hygiene and importance of sanitary napkins was made clear to the participants. DESCRIPTION:Doorstep healthcare services have been made accessible for the families living in 10 slum clusters (19 service points) in the city of Chennai\, including Nagalgani\, Pallavaram\, Shankarnagar\, Thrishulam\, Astinapuram\, and Chomepet. \nA new Smile on Wheels mobile hospital project was launched for the purpose\, powered with a team of qualified doctor\, nurse\, lab technician\, pharmacist\, driver and a group of volunteers\, the project aims to benefit over 15\,580 children and families directly every year. A team of volunteers also performed a street play to create awareness on the necessity of basic hygiene.
