DESCRIPTION:On 27th October\, 2015 students from STeP Center ADHAAR (Association for Development of Human Action and Rehabilitation)\, New Delhi went for an Exposure Visit to V3s East Center Mall at Vikas Marg Laxmi Nagar. \nTotal of 32 students were present for the exposure visit. Mr. Aseem Surjeet Meitei\, Unit Head\, Stanmax and Ms. Tishu Kohli\, HR manager\, shared the skill of managing customers. Firstly\, they entered Stanmax\, Max Standard Stores Private Limited; Mr. Aseem Surjeet Meitei interacted with the students and shared the experience of Retail Management. He also gave some important facts of Retail management. While visiting the store\, they observed certain aspects such as how to check hygiene and how to deal with customers for retail sector. \nSecondly\, they entered Big Bazaar; Ms. Tishu Kohli interacted with the students and shared the experience of HR. She also briefed some important facts of HR Management. When students visiting the clothes section; they observed that the items were divided into separate sections which helped the customers to locate an item eaisly. After that the students visited the billing counter and observed the process of billing and bar code reading which is marked on the product. Further\, the students visited the help desk counter and silently listened to the customer queries and responses of the executives. \nAfter observation\, students asked several questions which were promptly answered by the Ms. Tishu Kohli and Mr. Aseem Surjeet. At the end of the visit students were very happy and learned many new things through this visit. They look forward to get employed in this sector soon.

While visiting the whole store\, students observed that Reliance Fresh is divided into separate departments like food bar\, home-wear\, sport\, toys and fashion etc. \nAt the end of the day\, students asked several queries related to retail management which was promptly answered by the Unite manager. At the end of the visit the students were very motivated.

DESCRIPTION:On 31st October 2015 students from the STeP Center Aarohan\, went to Mother Dairy Plant at Patpatganj (Delhi). \nTotal of 36 students along with Center Coordinator were present during the exposure visit. Mr. Ashok Verma\, Sr. Executive\, Mother Dairy Plant\, interacted with the students and extended a warm welcome to all the students and briefed them about the development of the plant. He along with the unit explained to the students\, the various steps involved in the packaging of milk and he also explained how the milk is brought to the unit from various unions in etherealized tankers and subjected to a number of tests before it is selected for packaging. Students were shown how the milk was subjected\, pasteurized and homogenized before packaging. \nDuring the visit\, students asked several questions\, were able to understand procedure of work and were able to clarify their doubts what exactly is needed to get a job in Retail Sector. At the end of the visit\, Students were very happy and motivated.

SUMMARY:Health camp for mother and girl child at Heganahalli
DESCRIPTION:84 mothers\, along with their children\, benefitted from the health camp organized at Heganahalli in Bengaluru\, Karnataka\, under Smile Foundationâ€™s Swabhiman programme. Besides providing medical diagnosis and free medicines\, the camp also provided counseling on reproductive health and family planning to the women. Hypertension\, hepatitis\, child health\, malnutrition and diabetes were the most common problems. 15 cases were referred to the nearest government facility. Dr. Shanthi and her team from the KSM Health Centre volunteered their services during the camp.

DESCRIPTION:A Smile on Wheels (SoW) mobile hospital reached out to more than 250 families in Bari village of Ashok Nagar district. Working as daily wagers and small farmers\, these villagers relentlessly work to feed their families and issues relating to their health often remain neglected. Many people queued to get a checkup and were found to be suffering from preventable maladies like malaria\, TB\, skin diseases\, open cuts\, untreated wounds\, asthma\, joint pain etc. The camp was helpful for the families as they were provided treatment that included OPD sessions\, diagnosis\, distribution of medicines\, and referral services. Besides these\, health counseling about immunization was done to generate awareness among the families.

The employees from Reliance were actively involved in this interaction. \nThe engagement was vibrant with total of 150 kids from Smile Foundation & privileged kids of Reliance employees coming together to celebrate Diwali & Children’s day. Reliance Commercial Finance employees too recollected their childhood by participating in all the fun-frolic activities with the children. \nVarious activities were lined up to engage the kids & bond their relations with their new friends. They had fun together – planting saplings\, making birthday cards\, painting pots & diyas\, and playing various games. Smile children decorated the diyas to gift to their new found friends. Later they all had delicious lunch together. Last but not the least all the children had big smiles on their little faces when they received beautiful photo frames as their return gifts.

DESCRIPTION:Travelling over 20 km to reach the nearest medical facility the residents of Bilaspur\, Himachal Pradesh had to undertake much hardships in terms of health care\, until Smile on Wheels an initiative of the Smile Foundation was launched. Over 20\,000 children and women from 42 villages were provided doorstep medical facilities through Smile on Wheels in the last 12 months. Launched in December 2014 with support from Leasing & Financial Services Limited\, the Smile on Wheels project aims to provide preventive and curative health services at the people’s doorstep. Under the project\, daily OPDs are organised on routine basis on the identified villages. These check-ups are turning out to be very first diagnosis of ailments in many people\, post which they are provided free treatment and medicines. Specialized health camps are also conducted to reach a bigger chunk of the population.

DESCRIPTION:People from 42 of the remotest of villages in Kalahandi district in Odisha now have healthcare coming right at their doorsteps. Launched in June 2015\, the project has already benefitted a population of over 6000 people. Living in one of the most backward districts\, the people of these villages make a living from small time farming. The land has a history of frequent droughts\, often leading to severe food and health crisis. Also\, there is an acute deficiency of professional and trained doctors due to the remoteness\, making quality healthcare an urgent need. Smile Foundation has partnered with Odisha Voluntary Health Association (OVHA) for this Smile on Wheels project\, which is being supported by TATA Trusts. The project will complement the existing government facilities\, form linkages with community health workers and help make quality healthcare accessible to the villagers.

DESCRIPTION:An Employer Engagement Program was organized for the STeP students of centre Amba Foundation\, Delhi on 30th November 2016. Total of 28 students participated in the program. Mr. Kamal Deep Chandel\, HR Consultants\, Mr. Surender Sharma\, HR Manager and Anuj Chaturvedi\, Food Manager from Metro Cash & Carry Mall was invited to impact the importance of skill development training. \nMr. Surender Sharma shared the experience of working in this sector. He gave some important points related to sales and ratail management and he also motivated and urged the students to step their career in retail sector. Mr. Kamal explained about the job opportunities and job description in the mall. \nAfter the program\, students gained meaningful knowledge about retail sector.They also observed insights about how a retail sector works and how they should work on their weakness as well as their strength to crack the interview. The program was very informative and it helped the students to get enlightened about the ways processes happen in the manufacturing industry.

Besides interactive discussions\, interesting games and role plays were included to make the session fun and engaging. These were followed by a question answer round and one-on-one counseling\, where the women clarified their doubts.

SUMMARY:Mission Education centre – Samarpan
DESCRIPTION:Over 250 children of small-time farmers and labourers of Hathi Basti (East Delhi) are experiencing school for the first time at the Mission Education Centre at Samarpan built on the banks of the Yamuna River. Morning prayer and exercise are a part of the daily routine here. The programme also intends to curb malnutrition\, provide medical facilities and also make them aware about personal hygiene. A total of four hours of classes are conducted every day in two shifts\, morning and afternoon.

SUMMARY:Empowering Grassroots – Action for Sustainable Growth 2015
DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation and Wilde Ganzen conducted a 2-day free residential capacity building programme for community based organisations under ‘Empowering Grassroots’. 24 grassroots NGOs from nine states – i.e. Tamil Nadu\, Andhra Pradesh\, Telengana\, Rajasthan\, Maharashtra\, Karnataka\, Delhi\, Haryana\, and Uttar Pradesh participated in the workshop. \nThe focus of the workshop was to orient grassroots NGOs with various Fund Raising Skills and getting well-versed with CSR Act and bridge the gap between the prospect of a huge CSR budget in the India Inc. The workshop also assisted them in building capacities at various project management techniques thus leading to sustainable growth of their organisations. \nDr. Bhaskar Chatterjee\, Director General and CEO of the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (under the aegis of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs)\, inaugurated the seminar and conducted the training programme in the first session. Experts and trainers from organisations like KPMG and Ericsson conducted and mentored the other sessions. \nEmpowering Grassroots is a national level programme of Smile Foundation focused on enabling genuine grassroots NGOs across India to bring excellence\, good governance and sustainable growth. Smile Foundation has so far built capacities of 500 grassroots NGOs under Empowering Grassroots programme in last two years. The aim is to bring 5000 similar NGOs under the programme across India. \nThe festival’s success was made possible with support from our various partners. Hershey’s Syrup\, Iris\, Indira Group of Institutes\, Ultra\, Burger King\, Children’s Film Society of India and Times of India came on board as Associate Partners. Leading international film organisations BFI (London)\, Cinekid (Netherlands) and Buster (Denmark) joined in as Festival Partners. SUMMARY:Chennai flood victims get access to Smile on Wheels
DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation has deployed Smile on Wheels mobile hospitals in a number of places in Chennai to provide medical help to the thousands of people affected by the devastating floods. It is now providing medical help to around 800 people every day. In a post-flood grim situation\, availability of free medical services like health check-up\, OPD session\, diagnosis tests\, and medicine distribution becomes a necessity. Smile Foundation organized health camps in different parts of Chennai every day to attend to urgent healthcare needs of the survivors.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Relationships\, Intimacy and Sexuality Education held for adolescent girls
DESCRIPTION:A one day life skill session was held on the 12th Dec 2015 with the 35 girls under Shinnyo-En on Relationships\, Intimacy and Sexuality Education. The workshop addressed several issues that adolescents face and also included hands-on\, experiential exercises on identity formation and confusion\, sexual developments in the body\, sexual safety\, personal choice and consent etc. The training was started with the introduction and after that an energizing activity was conducted in which some general questions were asked and students replied to those questions with much enthusiasm. A question-answer round and chart paper activity was conducted. Two movies were screened later on regarding Menstruation Hygiene and the other on Sexual Abuse and Role of Child. The trainer also spoke about topics such as the changes that take place during puberty\, women and child safety\, Menstruation Cycle and its importance for girls etc. \nAfter the completion of the project the women shared how the workshop was very helpful in clearing a lot of doubts regarding their personal health and wellness.

DESCRIPTION:On 16th December 2015\, Mr. Setric from GKN Aerospace had visited our STeP Center BIRDS – The Sacred Heart Brothers regarding various jobs opening in their company. Altogether 25 students were present for the training program. Mr. Setric took a brief orientation of the STeP beneficiaries and discussed about various job profile with them. He also talked about the job placements and the interview skill to the beneficiaries. He suggested the students choose the right career in better way. \nAll the students were very happy and were highly enriched with the knowledge shared by Mr. Setric. Students asked several questions about the job responsibilities and salary structure of the company.

SUMMARY:1st edition of SIFFCY - Biggest Celebration of Good Cinema for Children & Youth
DESCRIPTION:The maiden edition of SIFFCY (Smile International Film Festival for Children and Youth) was successfully held from December 21-27 at the Siri Fort Auditorium in New Delhi. Bringing world cinema to the children and youth of India\, this one-of-its-kind film festival is aimed at celebrating the power of films beyond their entertainment value\, as a medium to engage young minds positively and inspire them to lead a better life. The festival got an overwhelming response from the audience as more than 10\,000 children from the city turned up and the films ran to packed auditoriums. \nThe week-long festival showcased 80 critically acclaimed films made for and by young people that have won laurels at International film festivals including Berlin\, Toronto\, Cannes\, Tokyo\, Cinekids\, and many more. The films were selected through a meticulous process from over 10\,000 entries received from more than 100 countries. Besides films\, the festival offered a wide array of interesting activities for the children including professional photography and film making workshops\, sand art animation workshop\, puppet shows\, magic shows\, etc. \nManeka Gandhi\, Minister for Women & Child Development\, Govt. of India\, was the Chief Guest at the opening ceremony\, and was joined by noted filmmaker and actor Tigmanshu Dhulia as the Guest of Honour. Actor Jimmy Shergill attended the Award Ceremony as Special Guest. Film Industry stalwarts and National Award winning directors Nagesh Kukunoor\, Hansal Mehta\, Tigmanshu Dhulia\, Santosh Sivan\, Jahnu Barua\, and Resul Pookutty were on the advisory board of the festival. National award winning film critics Saibal Chatterjee and Utpal Borpujari were also part of the core team of SIFFCY. \n“Birds of Passage”\, from Belgium\, France\, directed by Yves Ringer and Olivier Ringer\, was awarded as the Best Feature Film. The vehicle is equipped with a qualified doctor\, nurse\, lab technician\, pharmacist and a driver\, to be overall administered by the Project Coordinator. Besides medical consultation\, the beneficiaries will also be provided with free of cost medicines and lab testing facilities. \nThe operations started in January 2016.

He discussed with the students about the various job opening in the Bank. She also explained about the job profile and salary structure. \nThe whole program was very motivating as it ensured the beneficiaries that they should be enthusiastic about getting involved in such training program as it is very important to find creative and meaningful way for them to participate so the efforts can really make a difference. At end of the Employer Engagement Program the students were very confident and were able to understand how to reply in interview and also how to present themselves in interview.
