SUMMARY:Reconstruction of classrooms in Gyandeep School
DESCRIPTION:Under Smile Foundationâ€™s Child For Child programme\, the classrooms of Gyandeep School\, Devi\, Madhya Pradesh\, which are in dilapidated conditions\, are being reconstructed. The children coming to the school are mainly from the adivasi community. Recently\, the school management has adopted 15 orphan students who are enjoying being in school. \nThe Sarpanch and other elders of the village\, including many parents of the students\, were present on the occasion\, giving full security and support to the project. \nThis was a step towards bridging the existing gaps and inequalities between the privileged and underprivileged children\, which is one of the major objectives of the Child for Child programme.

Ms. Varsha Chanda\, faculty from eNVision\, joined the Swabhiman team in conducting the training and interacted with the CHEs\, SHVs and beneficiaries about improved Reproductive and Child Health (RCH)\, developing skills in community mobilisation and communication as well as on effective reporting\, documentation and networking skills which will enable them in getting proper data from the field. Innovative methods of communication and community mobilization in promoting RCH & ARSH were also shared during the session. \nA set of IEC (Information\, Education and Communication) materials was distributed amoThe training was an initiative to mobilise communities effectively and communicate the right knowledge in an engaging manner to the participating Change Agents\, so that their families and communities can develop a conscious awareness towards such sensitive issues. SUMMARY:Masoodpur slum gets a new lease of life after devastating fire
DESCRIPTION:A Smile on Wheels mobile hospital project has been initiated in the Masoodpur slum cluster in Delhi\, where a massive fire had left more than 4000 people homeless\, destroying their shanties and belongings\, in April 2014. Smile Foundation had joined hands with the local government bodies\, civil society groups\, volunteers and a few other organizations then\, working continuously for days\, to address the immediate healthcare needs of the affected people. The slum cluster is home to migrant population\, mostly hailing from West Bengal\, working in nearby areas as domestic helps\, hawkers or scrap dealers.

Having in its fold more than 400 Chambers and Trade Associations\, and serving more than 4\,50\,000 members from all over the country\, the organization represents the interests of trade and commerce in India\, and acts as an interface between industry\, government and other relevant stakeholders on policy issues and initiatives. \nThis is an appreciation with specific reference to Smile Twin e-Learning Programme (STeP) of Smile Foundation. STeP is a national level livelihood programme that trains urban underprivileged youth with market-oriented job skills such as English\, basic computer\, personality development\, retail management\, relevant soft skills etc. and makes them employed in retail and service sectors across India. \nMore than 16\,000 youth have been trained and 11\,500 have been placed in over 140 brands through 33 operational projects across 16 states of India.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Healthy Lifestyle for DPS students
DESCRIPTION:A workshop on Healthy Lifestyle was conducted at DPS\, Jalandhar in Punjab under Smile Foundationâ€™s Child for Child programme. More than 200 students from Class 8 to 12 participated actively in the workshop\, along with school principal Ms. Asha Kumar\, child counsellor Ms. Vandana Sondhi and teachers. \nFour sessions\, each of one hour\, covered issues pertaining to health\, such as the harmful effects of tobacco consumption\, the reasons why to slow down intake of junk food\, and negative fallouts of modern day technology and the ways to tackle them. The sessions were highly interactive\, enabling and encouraging the students to answer various questions and find solutions too. \nPrincipal Ms Asha Kumar and Ms Sondhi (child counsellor) assured to continue with this process of sharing and learning realizing that this is a long drawn process and one or two workshops won’t suffice. The students also expressed their desire to learn more and requested further sessions.

SUMMARY:Rajhans Vidyalaya invites Smile kids to Annual Sports Day
DESCRIPTION:Rajhans Vidyalaya\, Andheri\, Mumbai\, invited Smile Foundation children from the Mission Education centre SHED to their Annual Sports Day celebrations. A group of 89 children from the centre participated in the event along with students from the school\, indulging in different games and activities\, and taking part in competitions. \nThe camaraderie between the children from the SHED centre and Rajhans Vidyalaya was great and well evident to all present. Children were also treated to some great food and prizes after the competitions. \nSuch interactions between the privileged and underprivileged children are encouraged under Smile Foundation’s Child for Child (CFC) programme\, which seeks to bridge the gap between children from the two worlds.

SUMMARY:Lancer International students visit Smile kids in Gurgaon
DESCRIPTION:A group of 30 students from Lancers International School Gurgaon visited Smile Foundation’s Mission Education centre Mera Parivar to spend time with the children. From Class 11th and 12th\, the students volunteered to take special classes for kids at the centre. \nRepresentatives from Smile Foundation’s Child for Child programme had conducted a value education session at the school\, which inspired many students to take active part in bringing change in the society. As a response to their willingness\, the students were invited to the Mera Parivar centre where they interacted for a whole day with Smile children – telling stories\, teaching and sharing their experiences. \nSuch interactions are encouraged under the Child for Child programme\, which seeks to sensitize privileged children and inculcate in them a responsibility towards their less privileged counterparts.

This recognition will also act as a morale booster for our community workers\, project managers\, supporters\, partners and our very own girl children alike\,” he said. \nThe Chief Guest Mr. Anant Geete\, Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises of India graced the awards ceremony along with Chairman of the Committee for Co-operatives and NPO Sectors\, ICAI; President\, ICAI; V-P\, ICAI; Chairman\, WIRC; Chairman\, CMII Committee of WIRC\, among other dignitaries. \nThe Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is the national professional accounting body of India.
