DESCRIPTION:On 4th August 2013\, An Employer Engagement Program(EEP) was organized in STeP training center Prayas(patna). Mr.S.K.Sinha an ex banker visited the STeP center for an orientation to the trainees. \nThe role of Employer Engagement program is to implement and co-ordinate all programs of employment assistance like registration\, placement\, career guidance\, employment market information and studies in various retail sectors. \nEmployment Exchange are responsible for collecting information about employment both public and private sector. \nTraining facilities\, individual information\, Group discussion\, Old case review\, higher studies are conducted with job seekers by Different Job Holders. \nMr.S.K.Sinha demonstrated the significance of being job oriented in the present scenario. He said “IN present scenario it is really very difficult for the government to create jobs for every unemployed youth. To overcome this problem there is a need to revamp education system by laying special emphasis on vocational courses.” \nVocational training plays an important role in preparing and qualifying citizens to meet the State requirements for a qualified national labor force in various vocational and technical areas.

A team of officials comprising of Mr. Dharmendra kr. Tiwari & Jagat Singh of Aviva Life Insurance Company India Ltd. Helped & guided the students of STeP program by describing the work culture of the company. \nThe aim and the objective of the visit were to make the students acquainted with the working and benefit of the Insurance Company and the value and importance of Insurance in the day to day life. This visit influenced the STeP students to join insurance sector\, the students got to know how the work is done smoothly and successfully. \nThe officials also demonstrated the employment generating capacity of the Insurance sector and it prospect in future. The students were very enthusiastic to join the insurance sector after the visit.

SUMMARY:Exposure Visit - Mega Mart
DESCRIPTION:On August 17th\,2013 students from the STeP center Green Tara\, Pune went to ‘Mega Mart’ supermarket. \nTotal of 23 students along with 2 teachers from the center were present in the visit\,they started with the entrance security counter. They saw how to check bags and look after the bag deposit counter. They also saw push carts and asked “for what are these carts used?” which they were answered that they help customer to carry large items that would otherwise be difficult to carry in a bag. Next they visited the cloth section\, they saw items were divided into separate sections. They learned how it helps the customer locate an item soon mall not only had food items but also personal care products\, home care products\, sanitation etc. the students walked around in the aisle and observed these sections\, learning about them. \nAfter seeing all things they ask question to people working there about salary\, time and many things. At last they come to billing counter saw how they are doing the bar-code machine. The students saw a demo how an item is billed and what a bill looks like and what kind of details are printed on the bill.The students were very happy after the visit.

Other main points discussed in the session: \n\nWhat is call center.\nTypes of call center.\nKind of work.\nDifference between Inbound and Outbound calls.\nWhat is a sale.\nWhat is insurance.\nWhat are the several forms of insurance.\n\nAt the end of the visit interview for all the students were conducted. They appeared for the interview and few of them were selected and have started the 10 days training from the next day itself. After the visit the students were highly excited.

This is a small step towards our future long term partnerships\,” he said. \nThe initial partnership titled ‘Shinnyo Smile Scholarship Programme’ will be a part of Smile’s ongoing programme Individual Support Programme (ISP) where needy and underprivileged children under four different categories are supported. \nUnder the partnership\, Shinnyo-en has given financial grant towards empowerment of underprivileged children through education. \nIt has been 11 years of partnership between the two organizations and Smile Foundation appreciates Shinnyo-en for its commitment towards an apt cause in India! \nSmile Foundation is a national level development organisation directly benefitting over 400\,000 children and their families every year\, through more than 200 live welfare projects on education\, healthcare\, livelihood and women empowerment\, in over 950 remote villages and slums across 25 states of India.

More than 5000 people were part of the inauguration ceremony\, including senior officials from Smile Foundation and REC.

SUMMARY:Exposure Visit- AT Kearney
DESCRIPTION:On 14th September 2013 an exposure visit was conducted at M/s. A.T. Kearney at lower Parel. 24 students along with the teachers attended a two hour session in various subjects by well-trained professional in a corporate atmosphere. Firstly the students were asked to introduce\, not themselves but their friends sitting adjacent. This was a way of bringing out each one’s knowledge about their own fellows students. \nIn connection to the personality development they were currently learning\, the students were asked as to what they think of themselves. They were taught how to see their own self i:e\, one’s own ‘eye’\, in order to nurture a well developed personality. To get this point through into their minds an image of a cat sitting before a mirror and seeing its own reflection as that of a lion. The summary meant that one ought to have self-esteem\, self-confidence and a stead-fast positive attitude for developing a good and vibrant personality. \nThey were made to undergo mock interviews and further divided into small groups to present group discussions. The highlight of this special session was that although it happened in a corporate and formal atmosphere\, it was conducted totally in an informal and friendly atmosphere which made the students at ease. For the students this was a totally new and thrilling experience. 24 Students attended the same.

SUMMARY:Yum! partners with Smile Foundation to fight hunger

Brands\, Inc. has brought its global World Hunger Relief (WHR) campaign initiated in 2007\, to India\, along with Smile Foundation\, in the form of ‘Hunger to Hope Kitchen’. \nUnder the campaign\, launched by Yum! Restaurants India in New Delhi\, proceeds from the day’s sales from a KFC outlet in the capital were contributed towards the WHR fund. Yum!’s contribution over the next one year will cater to the nutritional needs of at least 2\,000 underprivileged children\, through Smile Foundation’s Mission Education programme. \nTalking about the campaign\, Mr. Niren Chaudhary\, President\, Yum! Restaurants India\, said\, “This unique programme brings together the entire Yum! family of over 22\,000 employees across 500+ stores in the country. Over the years\, with support from all our customers\, associates\, franchisees and their families\, Yum! has been able to raise over Rs. 5 crores which was contributed towards feeding over 7 lakh less fortunate women and children.” \nBollywood actor Sharman Joshi joined the celebrations at the KFC outlet. Sharman and representatives from Yum! also visited Mission Education centre at Shri Ram J.J. Camp in Dhaula Kuan to interact with the child beneficiaries. Sharman encouraged the kids to get education before doing anything else in life. They had got a cake\, card and flowers to wish her. Isha was moved by this simple gesture and indulged them with games\, little gifts and chocolates. Expressing her joyous feeling Isha said\, “The feeling of making these children happy even for a day brings fulfilment in my heart. Because it is each child’s right to live their life basking in happiness and joys\, without worrying about anything but just being happy and being kids. DESCRIPTION:On September 28th\,2013 students from the STeP center Vidyaranya\, Bangalore went to Gopalan Mall Situated Cross road\,Bangalore. \nTotal of 30 students along with 2 teachers from the center were present in the visit\,they started with the entrance security counter. They saw how to check bags and look after the bag deposit counter. They also saw push carts and asked “for what are these carts used?” which they were answered that they help customer to carry large items that would otherwise be difficult to carry in a bag. Mr. Prabhu the Mall supervisor interacted with the students and shared the skill of managing customer. He also gave some important facts of retail management.Then the students learned how it helps the customer locate an item soon in the mall the students walked around in the aisle and observed these sections. \nAfter seeing all things they ask question to people working there about salary\, time and many things. At last they come to billing counter saw how they are doing the bar-code machine. The students saw a demo how an item is billed and what a bill looks like and what kind of details are printed on the bill. The students were very happy after visit.

Sometimes health care services are either out of reach or a “health-seeking behaviour’ is below average in such areas. \nA series of five intensive health camps were conducted in Nagapattinam district in Tamil Nadu. Curative\, preventive and promotive services were made available to 1250 people based on the health profiles. \nMobile Hospital approach under ‘Smile on Wheels’ is the other health delivery model of Smile Foundation which takes specialized services to an identified cluster of villages or urban slums in an area. \nChennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (CPCL) supported Smile Foundation for the first series of tailor-made health camps in Nagapattinam.

SUMMARY:Integrated Education and Health Programme launched in Auriya district\, UP
DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation\, supported by Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL)\, initiated an integrated development project to provide education and healthcare services in Auriya district of Uttar Pradesh. \nThe programme covers remedial education and academic support projects for village children in the age group of 6-16 years\, computer literacy for children and Smile Health Camps for providing curative\, preventive\, promotive and referral healthcare services in the villages. Community mobilization and sensitization activities on vital social issues like education\, health\, female foeticide and women empowerment are an integral part of the project. \nThe villages of Vaisundhera\, Kanno\, Khanpur and Pata are covered under the intervention. \nThe programme was formally inaugurated at Vaisundhera village in the presence of Mr. M.D. Gohil\, Executive Director\, GAIL\, Mr. A.C. Pandey\, G.M. Finance\, Mr. Arun Kumar Srivastava\, G.M. HR\, Mr. Pradosh Bhardwaj\, Sr. Manager HR & CSR GAIL\, Mr. Vikram Singh Verma\, COO\, Smile Foundation and Mr. Satnam Singh\, Chief Manager\, Smile Foundation. \nVillage pradhans (heads)\, around 300 villagers\, representatives from education department\, teachers and principals of local government schools also graced the occasion. \nCommunity participation is part of the strategy to ensure quality education under the programme.

She also spoke about the significant place of girl children in our society\, emphasizing on how it was more important to teach a girl as girls played multiple roles in the development of a society. \nTalking about the importance of education for girls\, Mr. Santanu Mishra\, Co-founder and Executive Trustee\, Smile Foundation\, said\, “When a girl gets education\, a mother gets educated\, a wife gets educated\, and children of future generations get educated. An educated girl makes an empowered and prosperous society. DESCRIPTION:On 12th oct’13 an Exposure visit was organized for the STeP Centre JSS Dharavi at R CITY Mall at Ghatkopar Mumbai. In the visit a total of 10 Student and 2 Teacher participated. The main objective of this exposure was to create awareness among the participants and enhance their knowledge on the best practice of the retail sector. \nJThere are many departments on the floor. There were different retails available like Reliance fresh\, CCD\, WestSide\, LifeStyle\, Levis\, McDonald\, FoodBazar\, BodyShop etc. \nMr.Sandeep the Departmental head of Reliance fresh interacted with the students. He briefed the students about the working structure of stores. He also explained the term and condition if anyone will join with this group. Few students were shown their personal interest to work with Reliance. \nThe students were very delighted to experience the working environment in the shopping mall. The exposure was provided to them in order to have a better understanding and improve their communication skills. The beneficiaries were given brief orientation about the nature of the work and various personality development skills. The program was a success as the interaction was informative as a result the visit came as a great inspiration for their bright and prosperous future.

The program was an eye opener for the students as they got lots of information and in return it was motivating and inspiring for them. The students gained various knowledge about various opportunities in the sector related to the company. As a result the session was very informative for them .The students were provided with an insight about the work culture in various industries. This also gives students opportunity for getting their career queries served by the professionals.

Charts\, demonstrations\, documentaries and slide shows were used to make the session interesting and engaging for the beneficiaries. \nMore than sixty women\, in the age group of 18 to 65 years\, benefitted from the workshop.

Flagged off by children from Smile Foundation\, the ride was joined by 20 HOG’s from the garden city who covered a stretch of 100kms from Tusker Harley Davidson\, Lavelle Road to the Prestige Golfshire. \nThe Casa Herbalife initiative is an integral part of HFF’s corporate social responsibility and is focused on supporting nutritional needs of the less privileged children. \nTalking about the initiative\, Mr. Ajay Khanna\, Country Head\, Herbalife India said\, “As an organization we consider good nutrition critical to lead a healthy and active life. Access to nutritional food is the most fundamental right of a child to grow and succeed. We are pleased to be able to make an important contribution towards development of these children.” \nThe first phase of the programme\, launched in Mumbai in 2011\, is already supporting 1000 children in western India. The second phase is covering 1000 more children in Mission Education centres located in Vellore\, Chennai\, Madurai\, Hyderabad and Lucknow. \n“We believe that proper nutrition is a very important aspect along with education and healthcare for a child’s overall physical and emotional development. Simultaneously\, there was a drawing competition for the children on the theme ‘Our Girls Our Pride’. \nMore than 150 children from Mission Education centres in Kolkata and Mumbai participated in the competition\, depicting the theme through drawings ranging from school going girls to illustrations of Durga.
