SUMMARY:Planting trees for a cleaner environment
DESCRIPTION:As pollution levels are on an all time high it is time for us as individuals and as a society to curb the menace by adopting practices which will lead to cleaner and greener environment. A tree plantation drive was conducted recently at a Mission Education centre in Uttar Pradesh during which children planted saplings and pledged to take care of them. The teachers spoke about the importance of planting trees and nurturing them. Sessions were taken up on development of confidence\, facing interviews\, decision making & to take jobs in their field of interest. The sessions helped in motivating these students to go forth with different career choices. \nSmile Twin E- learning Programme (STeP) is an initiative of Smile Foundation that aims at creating a pool of young and independent people\, from a section of underprivileged youth\, through skill enhancement in tandem with market requirements. Students of the school attended the early morning session which included the value of empathy\, care and integrity in life; how to grow up as a successful as well as happy individual\, among other subjects. These children reside in remote rural areas and have less opportunity to interact with students from outside\, hence\, the assembly talk was a way to educate them of the hardships children in urban slums and extremely remote areas face when they want to persue a good education. \nSmile Foundation visits various privileged schools across India and conducts engaging sessions for the young minds\, under CFC programme. Children are sensitized in various causes\, value systems and are ushered to realize their importance in growing up as responsible citizens of the country. \nDuring last one year\, Smile Foundation reached out to nearly 1 Million privileged children in over 1000 schools spread across 417 districts of India\, through Child For Child (CFC) programme. SUMMARY:New Swabhiman programme kick starts at Mumbai
DESCRIPTION:A new Swabhiman project started it activities in the Damunagar area in Kandivali East\, Mumbai. The people living in the area are uneducated\, underserved and mostly work as daily wage laborers. Women have less or no privileges in this area and seldom take care of their well being. Through this project the Swabhiman team of Smile Foundation aspires to generate awareness on the issues of reproductive and sexual health covering safe motherhood\, child health\, family planning\, RTI/STI\, HIV-AIDS among adolescent girls and young married women\, sensitize adolescent girls on gender issues through Swabhiman Volunteers who will be imparted Life Skill Education (LSE) including communication and negotiation skills\, build confidence and assertiveness in adolescent girls and young women to challenge the gender stereotypes in demanding and accessing products and services that they need to improve their health and social status. \nThe project also aims to provide financial support to underprivileged meritorious girl students of towards achieving their academic goals and also improve the self-esteem and confidence of scholars through leadership development workshops and regular mentoring. \nApproximately 5000 women and adolescent girls will be reached through this extensive approach of Swabhiman programme. \nSwabhiman\, meaning self-respect in English\, was initiated in 2005 to address these challenges through a simple yet effective approach. The programme is specifically aimed at realization of both individual and collective self-esteem and inner strength for marginalised and socially excluded women and adolescent girls through innovative community practices.

SUMMARY:Swabhiman health camp for residents of Damru Nagar
DESCRIPTION:A health camp was organized on 18th July 2018 for the residents of Damru Nagar which provided medical consultation to 110 beneficiaries that included children (0 to 9 years)\, adolescents (10-19 years)\, and men and women (both 20 years and above). The health camp aimed at promoting awareness about illness\, identifying community members with health problems and helps the patients get affordable healthcare by further referring them to local government hospitals\, all at their doorstep. In the camp\, hemoglobin tests\, weight measurement and blood pressure checks facilities were provided to beneficiaries. Counseling and consultation was also provided to the beneficiaries on their specific ailments by general physicians. Several women who attended the camp were anemic\, had fungal skin infections\, and gynecologic problems. Medicines for these common diseases were dispensed free of charge and more serious symptoms related to diseases like cancer were further referred to specialists in a local hospital. \nSwabhiman\, meaning self-respect in English\, was initiated in 2005 to address these challenges through a simple yet effective approach. The programme is specifically aimed at realization of both individual and collective self-esteem and inner strength for marginalised and socially excluded women and adolescent girls through innovative community practices.

DESCRIPTION:A special health camp was conducted for the children of urban slums in Delhi. These children usually do not get proper healthcare facilities as their parents work as daily wage laborers and seldom have the time to care for the children. A regular health check-up was conducted for the children and the children were sensitized about the importance of washing their hands before and after eating and exercising daily and the importance of playing sports and inculcating other healthy habits to avoid falling sick. The children were asked to share their daily routines and the steps they took every day to maintain hygiene. DESCRIPTION:Oral hygiene is an important part aspect of our overall health and taking good care of our teeth keeps us away from various diseases. It is especially important to teach children to take proper care of their oral hygiene and also conduct regular check up of their oral hygiene. Keeping in mind the same a Dental Health camp was conducted for the students of a Mission Education centre in Tamil Nadu. The doctor conducted a regular dental checkup and prescribed medicines for those suffering from teeth problems and references for problems such as dental cavity etc. Nearly 397 Beneficiaries participated in the health camp and utilized the benefits. The doctor also advised the students to brush twice a day and avoid sticky\, sweet things after brushing and rinse their mouth after every meal. DESCRIPTION:Employees from Open Text spend a day with the children of a Mission Education centre in Hyderabad talking about the need for hygiene and maintaining good health for regular attendance. DESCRIPTION:National Nutrition Week is observed every year from 1st September to 7th September to make people aware about the importance of nutrition for the Human Body and well being of health. The theme for National Nutrition Week 2018 was ‘Go Further with Food’. Good Nutrition is necessary because with a poor diet well-being is reduced. Good nutrition helps to manage healthy weight\, maintains the immune system and provides energy. National Nutrition Week was observed across Surat\, Chennai\, Gurugram and Sonabhadra wherein people were sensitized about following proper diet\, eating healthy food\, the need for proper nutrition for expecting mothers and new mothers\, the importance of green vegetables and the basics of cooking a nutritious meal. DESCRIPTION:It is very important to teach to be alert of as number of things like inappropriate gestures\, touches and speaking up about any such incidents. A workshop was conducted for the children of a school in Delhi regarding the same. The children were told about the various types of touches and how they should immediately alert an elder if any such incidents happen. The counseling was important because many a times children are intimidated by adults and are scared to speak up. The children were also asked to keep a look out for other young children who might be a target for any such incidents. \nUnder the Child For Child programme\, Smile Foundation visits various schools and conducts engaging sessions for the young minds. It sensitizes children towards various causes and let them realize their privileged status. \nCFC currently reaches out to nearly one million privileged children in 900 schools spread across 417 districts of India\, every year. In addition\, their parents and teachers are also involved in the process. The programme has today reached out to each part of India with the exception of Lakshadweep.

SUMMARY:Health workshop for women conducted in Mumbai
DESCRIPTION:A health workshop was conducted for the women of Kunchikorve\, Mumbai. The women residing in this area are not well educated in the matters of personal hygiene and do little to maintain it which results in a lot of infections like UTI etc in young women. The workshop was conducted by health experts who talked about menstrual problems\, how to maintain hygiene and importance of proper nutrition for women. The women raised a lot of queries which were answered by the experts. the entire workshop proved to be successful for these underprivileged women who learned a lot. \nSwabhiman\, meaning self-respect in English\, was initiated in 2005 to address these challenges through a simple yet effective approach. The kids were overjoyed to meet the actress and made beautiful cards for the actress. \nA question answer session was also conducted wherein the kids asked various questions to the actress about her childhood and dreams. Sonakshi answered the questions and said she loved to go to school and loved to play sports. Speaking about the event Sonakshi said\, “I think it is a fantastic initiative. Whatever little we can do on our end to help the kids should be done.” The kids also sang a song with the actress.

We had some children from Smile Foundation. We were joking\, laughing and then doing something good. We must be doing a lot more of this\, but we have made a beginning. SUMMARY:SIFFCY@SCHOOL reaches Amravati
DESCRIPTION:Smile International Film Festival’s initiative to take meaningful cinema to school across all parts of India is to sensitize children and youth through hand-picked quality films\, with assortment of various topics starting from gender equality to environment\, family values\, friendship\, aspirations\, dream\, self-confidence and importance of education from across the globe. \nThe festival reached Amravati on the 23rd of October 2018 wherein a number of meaningful movies\, beneficial to school children were screened. The children enjoyed the movies and appreciated the values imparted through the films and promised to inculcate them in their daily lives. \nSIFFCY (Smile International Film Festival for Children & Youth) is a special film platform devoted to a greater appreciation of meaningful cinemas made for children and youth which can bring change in the society by showcasing those films\, supporting emerging filmmakers\, recognizing the pioneers and leaders of the similar industry and by promoting the diverse perspectives of Good World Cinema. It caters to young people (aged 6 to 25) with just about every level of interest in film\, whether to watch and enjoy\, create their own work or take things a stage further and find out more about a career in the film or television industry.
