SUMMARY:Women’s Day celebrated under the Swabhiman programme of Smile Foundation
DESCRIPTION:On 8th Mar ’18 Women’s day was celebrated in Surat Nagar Phase-II in Gurgaon with 60 beneficiaries that included women and adolescent girls. \nThe event started with a warm welcome of the participants by the team. A mesmerizing dance by the community girls and women followed which was enjoyed by all. Then 4 of the beneficiaries\, who have benefitted from Swabhiman\, shared their stories with the group and were appreciated by all. \nThen the women were divided into 6 groups for a rangoli competition. Beautiful rangolis were created by the groups. After this\, a play was performed by the community women. \nFollowed this was a poster cum slogan competition for the adolescent girls. Meanwhile\, many women came forward and performed when the girls were busy putting their creative ideas on the paper. \nThe winners of both the competitions\, beneficiaries who shared their stories and the performers of the play were felicitated with a hygiene kit that included sanitary napkin packet\, calcium tablets\, hand wash and intimate wash. They were explained about the importance and usage of the kit as well.

DESCRIPTION:A special health camp was conducted for the residents of Bhalswa JJ Colony\, Delhi. Most of the residents in this area are daily wage earners who neglect basic health problems which later on escalate to bigger problems. 376 patients were treated and 40+ lab tests were done to benefit the people. The camp was catered to by 1 MD\, 1 gynecologist & 1 pediatrician along with paramedic staff and volunteers. DESCRIPTION:A health awareness programme was conducted for students from a school in Jammu and Kashmir. The children were sensitized about the importance of washing their hands before and after eating and exercising daily and the importance of playing sports and inculcating other healthy habits to avoid falling sick. A special video screening on balanced diet\, cleanliness and maintaining oral and personal hygiene was also conducted. The children were asked to share their daily routines and the steps they took every day to maintain hygiene. SUMMARY:IPL Team Kolkata Knight Riders comes forward to support Smile on Wheels to provide healthcare relief to the underprivileged in and around Kolkata
DESCRIPTION:Team Kolkata Knight Riders and Meer Foundation have come together to support Smile Foundation in their endeavor to provide healthcare services for the underprivileged community specially women and children. The inaugural health camp was conducted on the 15th of April 2018 at Bantala\, Kolkata\, after which 11 more health camps will be conducted across the state of West Bengal. The camps will run in the districts of Kolkata\, south and North 24 Pargana\, East and West Medinipore \, Burdwan\, Darjeling\, Alipurduar and Cochbihar. The overall target beneficiary to be reached is counted at 2400 people. \nThe inaugural camp facilitated healthcare services for the people dwelling in the Dhapa-Bantala area where the popular occupations are rag-picking and daily wage earning which make the people prone to multiple diseases and infections. The locations have been chosen so as to provide healthcare needs to the people who need it the most but cannot afford it due to lack of resources and awareness. Through the health camps Smile on Wheels aims to provide primary healthcare services and also spread awareness about various diseases among the needy and underprivileged. \nSmile on Wheels programme at present has 39 operational projects in 623 remote villages and urban slums across India\, directly benefiting 580\,000 lives directly in a year.

Nickelodeon conducted the event in association with NGO Arpan. The activity was on imparting lessons on safety and well-being for kids to reinforce the objective of creating a safe environment for every child. \nThe event started with an ice breaking session and interaction with the kids who were given a questionnaire to understand their knowledge and awareness on this topic. This was followed by PPTs and videos on the same topic. It was very informative and engaging session for the kids. DESCRIPTION:6 Children groups have been formed in 6 settlements focusing on child rights. The groups have been formed at the settlement level for involving the whole community so that they understand the rights of the children. The project also aims to make the children aware of their rights. Initially the project staff will interact with the groups regularly to make them aware on child rights and the group will get an opportunity to interact with key stakeholders\, duty bearers and most important\, other children. The members in the children group will vary with respect to the size of child population in the IDP settlements. DESCRIPTION:First aid training programme were conducted for students from three schools in Jammu. The children were taught how to use first aid kits in time of emergency as play time and recess cause accidental injuries at school sometimes. Use of disinfectant\, bandages\, checking for injuries etc was taught to the children. DESCRIPTION:In anticipation of the upcoming Mother’s Day\, Smile Foundation planned a very special tribute for mothers of children from reputed Delhi NCR schools. Titled “Moments with Maa”\, the event was designed to celebrate motherhood and help rejuvenate the mother-child bond\, particularly at an age when children start distancing themselves from their parents. \nEminent panelists including Delhi’s most loved voice on the radio RJ Naved\, renowned psychologist Dr. Aruna Broota\, and fashion designer\, educationist and social activist Ms Varija Bajaj were present at the session to encourage and motivate the children and mothers. It was beautifully moderated by our very own Ms. Seema Kumar (GM – Programmes). A vegetable gardening workshop was organized by a Mission Education centre in Karnataka for the children to teach them the basics of vegetable gardening at home and also create awareness about the benefits of consuming home grown vegetables. A demo was organized in which children also actively participated and joined in mixing the compost along with employees from TURNER who had also joined in the activity. Sapling and seeds of lettuce\, coriander\, basil\, and greens were planted. DESCRIPTION:The third edition of the Swabhiman Learning Fest\, which is a two day residential camp for the scholars of Swabhiman concluded on the 7th of June 2018. The two-day ‘Learning Fest’ was organised for 130 girls. \nThese girls have excelled in their studies\, despite living in poverty. Each one of them has received scholarships to complete their education under Smile Foundation’s Swabhiman programme. \nThe two-day ‘Learning Fest’ was organised for these girls to help them explore themselves holistically and shape their own life. With a view of making them self-aware\, confident and take full charge of their own development\, interactive and self exploration workshops were conducted to empower them with various life skills. They were helped by experts to develop their personality\, interpersonal relationships and studies. \nThe conclusion of the camp witnessed relatively confident\, self-relying and optimistic girls! \nSwabhiman\, meaning self-respect in English\, was initiated in 2005 to address these challenges through a simple yet effective approach.
