SUMMARY:Swabhiman activities benefits men\, women and the society
DESCRIPTION:Swabhiman project titled “Empowering Women and Adolescent Girls Through Reproductive Health Education and Services” in Surat Nagar phase 2 in Gurugram\, with the aim to empower women and girl by generating awareness and providing access to quality reproductive and sexual health care. In addition\, male involvement and their sensitization is an integral part. The focus beneficiary groups included adolescent (10-19 years)\, women in reproductive age (20-49 years) and men (20-49 years). \nThrough this project 16\,465 people reached extensively and sensitized on reproductive and sexual health. 403 contraceptives & 286 sanitary napkins were distributed to promote practice of family planning and hygiene. 1315 people received free health services through periodic health camps. 131 pregnant women and 119 lactating mothers were constantly guided for proper Ante Natal and Post Natal Care. 931 community members sensitized on reproductive and sexual health issues through BCC\, and there was celebration of important days & workshops were conducted by health experts. Approximately 1000 people availed free of cost health services through periodic health camps that imbibed a health seeking behavior among the community members.

SUMMARY:Avvery Dennison conducts activities with Swabhiman beneficiaries
DESCRIPTION:Avery Dennison team actively interacted with the community members and the project team during a series of Employee Engagements. The first employee engagement was held on 23rd December ‘16 during which the team celebrated Christmas Day with children from the community. There were some fun filled activities like lemon and spoon race and singing songs with children. The event concluded with cake cutting by the children and distribution of chocolates. \nThe second employee engagement activity held on 11th January ‘17 involved members from ‘Reflectives India’ team of Avery Dennison who conducted a session with 100 children. In the session they discussed topics that included road safety\, personal hygiene\, good habits and some general awareness. The children were enthusiastically involved during the event and it all concluded with distribution of refreshments. \nThe third employee engagement was held on 07th March’17 in Avery Dennison team organized self defense training which was provided by two trainers from ‘Invictus Survival Sciences’ organization. 34 adolescent girls benefitted from this training as they learned and practiced basic self defense techniques. Each participant was given a certificate. The energy with which the girls remained involved throughout the session was well appreciated by the trainers as well as Avery Dennison team.

SUMMARY:Medical camp conducted for women at Bangalore
DESCRIPTION:A medical camp was conducted for Swabhiman Bangalore on the 10th of March 2017. The benefits provided in the camps consisted of full medical care which included OPD\, supply of drugs\, dressings\, pathological and radiological investigations (diabetic\, hemoglobin\, ECG\, Nebulization\, urine and blood check up)\, antenatal and postnatal services. 1 case was also referred to BBH for Neurologist and for MRI scan. Special care was given to the patients and emergency treatment was started for the needy patients. 47 women\, 8 men and 11 children attended the camp.

A total of 30 students were accompanied by 3 teachers. The children visited various exhibition halls in the museum to look at engines of various cars\, machines used in industry\, a jet aircraft engine\, and other mechanical devices. The children also saw exhibits on the science of sound\, optics\, fluids\, math and perception etc. It was a fun filled day for the children and they also learnt a lot.

SUMMARY:Eye care and cataract detection camp at Bilaspur and Palampur
DESCRIPTION:A special eye care cum cataract detection camp was conducted at Palampur and Bilaspur\, Himachal Pradesh from the 6th to 10th of April 2017. A total of 449 elderly people attended the camp at the cataract detection camp of which 120 patients were identified for surgery. Special tests and screenings were done before conducting the surgery so that the best possible treatment could be rendered to the people. All the surgeries were completed successfully and the people were greatly benefitted from the camp and were happy that their vision was restored.

SUMMARY:Telstra employees and Smile children spend a fun day together
DESCRIPTION:A sports day was organized for the kids of Mission Education centre in Mumbai. 10-12 employees from Telstra took part in the activities. A game of Dog & Bone was played to break the ice between the employees and the children which was followed by more games like marble and spoon\, sack race etc. Winners were given prizes and both the kids and the volunteers had a gala time all throughout the day.

SUMMARY:Workshop for school students on basic manners
DESCRIPTION:A workshop on basic manners to be followed in the classroom and school was conducted for the students of Vallabh Ashram\, Valsad. Students of class VI\, VII & VIII attended the session and shared various experiences regarding their day to day activities in the classroom and school. The children learnt a lot from the workshop and pledged not to talk during class\, respect parents and teachers\, stop telling lies etc.

SUMMARY:New ME centers inaugurated in Assam
DESCRIPTION:Four new Mission Education centers were inaugurated in Assam to cater to the needs of the under privileged children there. These children belong to very poor families and the parents of these children are either daily wage earner s or work as rag pickers. Most of the children are first generation learners and their parents are overjoyed that their children are getting an education which will in future improve their conditions.

SUMMARY:Hand washing is the way to hygiene
DESCRIPTION:Hand-washing is one of the most basic ways to maintain hygiene. A team of Swabhiman volunteers reached St. Soldier Public School on the 22nd of April 2017 to conduct a hand-washing workshop and also to address other issues regarding health and hygiene. \nThe children were informed about the importance of proper hand washing and were taught steps to do the same. Visual media was used to aid the process of information exchange.

SUMMARY:World Earth Day\, learning to nurture and care
DESCRIPTION:Children of Mission Education center at Gurugram celebrated Earth Day on the 22nd of April 2017 by staging a dance and painting drawings related to the environment. Teachers also spoke about the importance of World Earth Day to the students and made them aware of why is it important to plant trees and nurture and care for the environment and the many ways we can keep the environment to keep it habitable for all. 115 students participated in the celebrations along with 6 teachers.

The camp was organized to aid in the overall development along with getting an education for the underprivileged children. The event was organized by Karan Gupta Education Foundation to promote girl child education with Smile Foundation campaign- She Can Fly and to support the cause of gender equality.
