SUMMARY:First all women medical camp conducted in Chennai under Swabhiman programme.
DESCRIPTION:A medical camp under the Swabhimaan programme of Smile Foundation was launched on the 5th of May\, 2016 at Chennai. It started at 9.30 AM and concluded at 1.30 PM and a total of 69 patients availed treatment at the camp. \nA number of illnesses were detected and medicines were distributed for the same. Female doctors were present in the camp which made the women more comfortable to talk about their illness. The patients were happy to avail benefits of the health camp in the locality and expressed a desire that more such camps be conducted frequently.

SUMMARY:Lamps distributed to girls under scholarship programme of Swabhiman
DESCRIPTION:Rechargeable study lamps were distributed to 35 girls under a scholarship programme supported by Shinnyo-en in Delhi. These girls come from families which are surviving a hand to mouth existence and cannot afford necessities like education. Under Swabhiman programme of Smile Foundation these girls can now avail education through scholarships at esteemed places like the University of Delhi. Shinnyo-en joined hands with Smile Foundation in the year 2007 to launch a special scholarship programme for under privileged children and adolescents under Swabhiman programme and has been a key benefactor in the upliftment of the girl child under the programme.

SUMMARY:AXA Business Services Runs for Smile at the TCS World 10K Marathon
DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation took part in the TCS World 10K Marathon to support the education of girl children under its Mission Education programme. AXA Business Services from the Corporate Care teams supported Smile Foundation’s cause at the marathon. \nBesides the Smile employees and volunteers\, more than 200 employees from AXA volunteered to run at the event. One of the runners from AXA shared\, “I run to keep my body fit. This motivates me to run in support of education for the girl child. The path emerges when we walk on it….Let us make a difference by running in support of education and equality. AXA Business Services has always been a socially responsible company with a clearly defined CR strategy focusing on fundamental issues like providing shelter\, education & livelihood to the marginalized societies. \nResponsible individuals including TIM Hewitt from Australia and Varun Kumar from Chennai also joined in the efforts and supported the cause of education of girl children by participating in the TCS World 10K Marathon.

DESCRIPTION:World Hypertension Day was celebrated in Noida on the 17th of May\, 2016. The celebrations included community mobilization\, distribution of pamphlets on the topic of hypertension\, health talk/awareness session by SoW doctor and Project Coordinator was conducted with the community people. A street play on the topic of hypertension was also performed by the volunteers and daily OPD sessions were also conducted for the people. 85 beneficiaries were provided with health care services at their doorstep.

DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation under its very prestigious programme Empowering Grassroots has partnered with Wild Ganzen to implement its first phase of CTG-Mobilizing Support Training. It is 10 day long certificate course is divided into three phase. The first phase is being organized from 24 – 28 May 2016 in New Delhi at Tivoli. The second and third phase will take place tentatively in July 2016. \nUnder this training 18 Participants from 11 Organizations are participating making it a Pan India level engagement with participants from the states of Karnataka\, Calcutta\, Delhi\, Haryana\, West Bengal\, Orissa\, Telengana\, Jammu and Gujrat dedicatedly engaging in the training.

DESCRIPTION:On 25th May 2016\, an exposure visit to Presto Drycleaners and Laundry\, Kandivili (East) was organized by the STeP centre SHED in which 35 students actively took participate. \nPresto has 44 branches in Mumbai and they provide vacancies of different designation according to education and experience. By visiting\, the students got to know about various aspects in dry cleaning process and laundry system. The staff explained the different types of work to the students and they were shown different sections of dry cleaning and packaging. The HR\, Mr. Amar Mahapadi gave valuable information about job opportunities in presto. The students could grasp minute details about the retailing sector through this visit.

Along with the students\, two instructors and the centre head visited the office. \nThe branch manager\, Mrs. Manju Gussain addressed the students and added value to the career counseling session taken by one of her colleague\, Mr. Rahul Shanbagh earlier in the month. Her support and participation helped the students to enroll with LIC to undertake part time promotional development. \nThe students were also shown places of interest such as Western Railway office\, the ground nearby with the Chakra monument\, the Parsi well\, the telecommunication centers (from outside of TATA\, MTNL and Overseas Communication. Students were excited to see the Flora Fountain\, Amar Jawan Monument and the other banking institutions in the surrounding area \nAt the end of the day the students were very excited and motivated for the exposure visit. DESCRIPTION:The Mission Education centre\, Maxvision Social Welfare Society in Gurugram\, Haryana celebrated ‘World No Tobacco Day’ on 31st May 2016. The celebration comprised of a rally in the vicinity of the centre wherein\, the students designed posters with slogans related to ‘Say no to Tobacco’. 192 students from the centre participated in the rally. Also\, an awareness session was conducted where the students were sensitized about the side effects of tobacco and advised to sensitize their close ones on the harmful effects of tobacco.

As a first step towards this endeavour\, Virat hosted a one-of-its-kind charity dinner at Hyatt Regency\, Mumbai\, and was joined by his colleagues Mahendra Singh Dhoni\, Shikhar Dhawan\, Yuvraj Singh\, Ajinkay Rahane\, KL Rahul to support the cause of children and youth empowerment. \nThis uber luxury-experiential evening had a five course Michelin starred dinner curated by Chef Vikas Khanna for 200 influencers which included the likes of Akash Ambani\, Gautam Singhania\, Nandita Mehtani\, Archana Kochhar\, Tara Sharma\, Nikhil Chaturvedi\, Mr. Digvijay Singh Kathiwada to name a few. \nTalking at the event Virat Kohli said \, “The sole purpose behind this initiative is to raise awareness and support for the cause of education and skill training for the thousands of less privileged children and youth in India. I am glad to see the support that has come from all corners and this is just a humble beginning to spread smiles amongst the kids and youth. SUMMARY:McGraw Hill Financial employees spends a day with children of Mission Education centren
DESCRIPTION:On 4th June 2016\, McGraw Hill Financial employees came forward to educate the children of Ina Raja Memorial on the environment\, the hazards of pollution and the way to conserve it. Around 15 employees were present there along with 50 children. The employees took a session on the issues related to different types of pollution harming the environment. This was followed by a painting competition. The children were divided into groups and volunteers were assigned to them. After the painting competition\, the winners of the same were announced and along with the distribution of the prizes and gifts and a cake cutting ceremony was also held. The employees and the children had an educative session around one of the most prevalent ongoing issues in the world\, degradation of the environment.

The play started with the mobilization of the community for the play. The street play team shared the objective of the gathering\, briefed about the topic and enacted it in front of the gathering. The title of the play was “Roles and Responsibility of Men”. It was the story of a man becoming responsible and taking care of the family. \nA total of 300 people watched the play and became aware about the roles and responsibilities of the members in a household.

SUMMARY:Exposure visit to Salarjung Museum
DESCRIPTION:Children from Mission Education centre Karuna Trust were taken on a visit to the Salarjung Museum\, one of the biggest museums in Hyderabad on an exposure visit on the 11th of June\, 2016. The museum has more than 100 rooms and many antique items. It was a first of its kind experience for the children. The children were provided lunch in the museum and evening snacks were also provided. The teachers of the centre and volunteers accompanied the children on the visit. It was a fun and learning experience for the kids.

SUMMARY:FIS Global employees spend a day with Mission Education children
DESCRIPTION:On 17th June 2016\, FIS Global conducted an employee engagement activity at Mera Parivar\, a Mission Education centre which it supports. 20 employees and 30 children took part in the activity\, the theme of which was- Importance of Environment\, which was celebrated in lieu of the World Environment Day (5th June). \nThe employees conducted a small session on the environment and the existing hazards to it. They imparted knowledge about the conservation of the environment and the three R’s which everyone should follow- Reduce\, Reuse and Recycle. \nThe session was followed by a quiz among the kids on the same theme. The children were divided into groups and volunteers were allotted to them. The volunteers along with the children learnt how to make bags out of newspapers. \nThe children were taught about the importance of using paper and cloth bags and the disadvantages of the polythene bags. The children made beautiful bags out of the waste newspapers\, which they had also carried back to their homes. \nThe activity ended with the distribution of refreshments and other interactions with the children. Both the volunteers and children had a great learning experience.

SUMMARY:Celebration of World Environment Day
DESCRIPTION:On the occasion of World Environment Day\, Smile Foundation celebrated the event at Thideer Nagar and Udaiyar Thottam with men\, women\, adolescent boys\, girls and children. Anganwadi teachers and SHVs also participated in the event. The day was celebrated to create awareness among the people about the importance of environment and the ways to save the environment. \nA rally was organised from 11.00am to 12.30pm. A total of 156 people participated in the rally. The people held charts and raised slogans about the environment. 50 saplings were distributed to the people which were planted in front of their houses and Anganwadis. A vote of thanks was given to all the participants and snacks were distributed at the end of the event.

SUMMARY:Summer Camp organized for the students of ME Centre at Bilaspur
DESCRIPTION:A summer Camp was organized for the students of the ME centre at Sirgitti\, Bilaspur. The main aim of the summer camp was to bring out the hidden talents of the children through various programmes. The children from the NFE Centre and other children from the community also participated in this programme. Cultural programmes were conducted in the camp as well as drawing\, rangoli making\, drama\, poem and storytelling competitions were conducted for the children. Certificate of Participation were also given to the children at the conclusion of the Summer Camp.

SUMMARY:A first of its kind- Learning fest for Swabhiman Scholars
DESCRIPTION:A first-of-its-kind two-day residential learning camp was conducted for 50 exceptionally talented girls under the Swabhiman programme of Smile Foundation. Coming from the most underserved sections of the society\, the girls had long been sacrificing their dreams owing to extreme poverty\, highly prevalent gender bias\, and lack of right opportunities. Their potential was recognized when Swabhiman coordinators went from one slum cluster to another\, identifying the most deserving girl children living in difficult situations. All the girls have now successfully completed their Swabhiman scholarship\, which aimed at enabling them to pursue higher studies and aspire to succeed in all phases of life. \nAn overnight stay was organized for the 50 girls at the International Youth Centre and the agenda for Day 1 included yoga sessions\, ice breaking and bonding activities\, self-exploration sessions and a media and theatre workshop called- Abhivayakti. The girls were so motivated and so talented that they staged plays of their own within a short span of time when given the task after the theatre workshop. \nThe activities for Day 2 included interaction with Women Achievers from different professions so that the girls derive inspiration to work harder. The girls also had an interactive session with Swabhiman supporters and the session ended with the distribution of certificates to each of the girls for performing excellently in academics. \nAt the end\, the girls shared their experiences and journeys\, also commending the Learning Fest as a truly enjoyable and motivating excursion which will continue to help them for many years to come.

DESCRIPTION:On 20th Jan 2011 exposure visit took place in Mumbai STeP center SHED\, at Oberoi mall which were situated in Goregaon. The total number of benefited student was 13\, at the level of entry into the mall Mr. Sushil gave brief objectives & idea to the students regarding that exposure visit. In mall there were various shops but the student visited only the required shops such as: electronic shops. \nStudents were very excited to explore the new knowledge regarding i-pods\, LCD’s\, LCD’s etc\, few of the boys was quite interested towards the technical tools and their applications operation. Student got change to meet Croma executive who gave them the detail and sufficient information regarding the electronic products. As per we know technical knowledge always attracts the new generation. At the end the students got the best Knowledge and were satisfied with the visit.

DESCRIPTION:The official inauguration of Health and Nutrition initiative at ZP Primary School at Nandurkhandarmal\, Ahmednagar was held on the 3rd of July 2016. The project includes providing milk and biscuits every morning to the students of ZP Primary School. Because of this initiative there has been a considerable increase in the number of children attending school every day and improved health conditions due to intake of milk has also been noticed in the children. \nThe Sarpanch of the village Mrs. Suandabai Bhagwat was the chief guest. Also present was School Management committee President Nitin Sambhaji Bjagwat\, Head Master Ganesh Karbhari Wagh\, Upsarpanch Mr. Dnyaneshwar Supekar as well as all other leaders of the village\, who lauded the efforts\, made by Smile Foundation for the betterment of the children.

SUMMARY:Airbus Group supports new Smile on Wheels in Delhi
DESCRIPTION:Airbus Group has joined hands with Smile Foundation to provide doorstep healthcare services in the slums of North-Delhi under the Smile on Wheels mobile hospital programme. The SoW started its full-fledged field operations on the 4th of July’ 2016. This is the 6th Smile on Wheels project in Delhi-NCR\, and takes the fleet of mobile hospitals operational across India to 24. \nThe intervention will make health-care amenities accessible in the slums and resettlement colonies of Jahangirpuri\, Wazirpur area of North Delhi. The vehicle is equipped with a qualified doctor\, nurse\, lab technician\, pharmacist and a driver\, to be overall administered by the Project Coordinator. Besides medical consultation\, the beneficiaries will also be provided with free of cost medicines and lab testing facilities. The partnership will directly benefit over 11\,880 beneficiaries during a span of nine months.

Pianist Jennifer Heemstra performed at the event. More than 20 students of IPER and two teachers attended the programme. The children enjoyed the programme a lot which made the event a success.

SUMMARY:Awareness Campaign for education held for people in remote area
DESCRIPTION:An awareness campaign on education was held in Ganganagar\, Dhalai district\, Tripura. More than 100 students\, youth\, parents and community people participated in the program. The people of these areas deserve support as they have less access to any kind of information the area being one of the remote areas. The programme was held to make more people aware of the benefits of education and encourage them to join the Mission Education centre there. After initialization of this project more students are coming in the center very regularly and the attendance of the students in the centers are up to the mark now.

DESCRIPTION:United Service Institution of India\, it’s an institution with expertise in the field of national security and matters pertaining to the defense service. The Institution in partnership with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) launched a project called ‘India Remembers’. The project aims to develop a community outreach and education program to engage with a wider segment of society to encourage them to Remember\, Honor and Commemorate the Indian soldiers who fell in the two world wars\, as well as the many military conflicts\, post independence. \nSmile Foundation has partnered with USI and has participated in the launch of “India Remembers” project. The high profile event witnessed participation of senior defense officials\, National security advisor to Prime minister\, Members of Commonwealth War Graves Commission (UK) and the ex-servicemen. Children from Smile Foundation recited a poem in remembrance to Indian Soldiers and were appreciated widely by the audience.

The Consulate also extended support towards the education of children under Mission Education programme.
