SUMMARY:First- aid training for auto-rickshaw & cab drivers at CNG stations
DESCRIPTION:The Smile on Wheels mobile hospital project in Delhi-NCR\, being supported by IGL\, has been successfully conducting first-aid training\, health awareness and counseling sessions for auto-rickshaw & cab drivers\, besides providing them with doorstep preventive and curative healthcare services. \nThese drivers are usually the sole bread winners in the family and stay away from regular healthcare or even awareness owing to the nature of their work. The mobile hospital visits designated CNG gas stations in Delhi NCR that are frequented by such drivers. \nEquipping them to handle emergency situations\, the first aid training covers all general road accident scenarios. Anger management\, drug and alcohol addiction\, hypertension and STDs are some of the main subjects on which the drivers are counseled.

DESCRIPTION:On 16th March 2016\, Step Center Pratigya Educational Initiative Society went for an exposure visit. They went to 4 different places Big Bazaar\, Samsung Outlet\, More Mega Store and Metro Walk Mall\, Rohini at Delhi for the visit. Total of 40 students along with 3 teachers were present during the visit. \nFirst\, they went for visit to Big Bazaar. Ms. Jyotsna\, Sales Assistant interacted with the students. She explained about the retail management and also shared that how to selling products in retail sector. \nSecond\, they went for visit to Samsung Outlet. Mr. sunny\, Promoter interacted with the students. He briefed about how to handle customers and how to resolve the problems of customers regarding the sales. \nThird\, they went for visit to More Mega Store. Mr. Punit\, Sales Boy interacted with the students. He shared his job experience in the store and also the job opportunities of retail sector. There are different sections in the store such as Food court\, Vegetable court and Grocery section etc. \nAt last students went for visit to Metro Walk Mall. Mr. Aryan\, Promoter interacted with the students. He explained how to promoting their products in Market and what strategy following by him to sales their products. \nAt the end students visited four places and observed lots of knowledge about the retails management and sales management. The exposure visit was very motivated and students were very happy.

DESCRIPTION:A drawing competition of children at the Mission Education of JUST was conducted on 22nd of March 2016 assisted by Smile Foundation. The theme selected for all students are “Save Water”. The hidden talents of students were reflected in their drawing. All students eagerly participated in the competition. During the program Mr. Deepan Gurung the Project Coordinator gave awareness to the students about water pollution. The students were encouraged to save water through this Drawing Competition.

SUMMARY:Spring Festival and Holi celebration at IPER
DESCRIPTION:Children of the Mission Education centre of IPER and staff members celebrated the spring festival and holi on the afternoon of 22nd March as Holi celebrations to be done was next day which was a holiday. A drama-skit was shown on the problems of female infanticide by senior boys and girls followed by performances of Rabindra nritya\, dances on Tagore’s songs of spring. This cultural program ended with playing of colors and putting colors on each other with songs and dances ushering in spring. A pair of small girls were adorned ‘RadhaKrishna’ and they too performed a dance.

SUMMARY:2500 benefit from mega health camp in Addagutta slum
DESCRIPTION:A multi-specialty mega health camp was conducted at the Addagutta slum in Hyderabad. Known to be the second largest slum in Asia\, Addagutta is home to a huge migrant population\, working as casual\, daily wage labourers and rag pickers for a livelihood. \nWith most people working in hazardous conditions and living in congested shanties with extremely poor sanitation\, being largely vulnerable to communicable diseases\, an intense healthcare intervention was deemed necessary\, in addition to the regular OPD being carried out by the Smile on Wheels mobile hospital in the area. \nAlong with three general physicians\, a team of paediatrics\, gynaecologists\, dental surgeon\, orthopaedic and ophthalmologist provided services at the two-day camp. A total of 2533 people benefitted from the camp\, majority of whom were women and children.

Mr. Sivanantha Perumal\, Manager of Sun Pharma Ltd. visited the STeP centre to conduct EEP. A total of 40 students took part in the session. \nThe topic of discussion for the session was how to reach the customers with new brands. There were various activities which were conducted as part of the programme including Role plays on how to interact with the client\, discussion on brand marketing and persuasion\, talking about the needs of the customers and achieving the goal. The manager also discussed the power of digital media in today’s world. \nAt the end\, he asked the students to be regular in the classes and get equipped with the skills which are required to be a part of this competitive world.

SUMMARY:Students of Saffron School take out a Rally on the occasion of World Health Day
DESCRIPTION:A massive rally was organized on the occasion of World Health Day by the students of Saffron School\, Fagwada in collaboration with Smile Foundation under the guidance of their Principal. The rally was flagged off by the Principal Dr. Sandeep Sood. Students from 6th to 8th standard and the teachers participated in this rally. The co-ordination of the rally was maintained by the N.C.C cadets of the Saffron School. The rally was taken around all the major places in Fagwada namely\, Hargobind Nagar\, Loha Mandi\, Gandhi Chowk etc. Slogans regarding health and health awareness were raised by the students. The rally ended in Barmani Park. Smile Foundation was an active participant and helped organize the rally.

DESCRIPTION:Employees from OSC spent a fun day with kids of Smile Foundation’s Mission Education center\, Maxvision in Gurgaon. The theme of the activity conducted was- health and hygiene. There were approximately 40 kids and 20 volunteers from OSC. The activity started with an ice-breaking session\, which was followed by a painting competition on the theme of health and hygiene. The volunteers sensitized the children towards the best practices of good health and hygiene. The volunteers also distributed health kits to the children along with a first aid box to the centre. It was a good learning exercise for the kids

DESCRIPTION:Singer Kailash Kher spent an interactive day with smile Foundation children at a Mission Education centre in Mumbai on the 21st of April\, 2016. The event started with a warm welcome by the children after which they also sung a few of his songs and were much appreciated for their efforts by Mr. Kher who later joined them to sing a few of his songs. \nMr. Kher also shared some of his memories of childhood. The children came up with a lot of queries\, to which Mr. Kher had ready answers and replied happily. \nHe discussed with them the importance of education\, cleanliness and personal hygiene and also explained how and why education is important to change one’s life. \nHe completed the event with highlighting the importance of hard work and benefits of being focused in life. The programme will be broadcasted on NDTV India as a special episode titled ‘Swachhata Ki Pathshala’.

DESCRIPTION:Keeping in mind ‘Trees for the Earth’ the theme of the Earth Day 2016\, children from the Mission Education centre SPAN celebrated Earth Day on the 22nd of April\, 2016. The day began with the children singing a song which was followed by an address by Mr. Tapas Charabarti of Smile Foundation and Mr. Prabir Basu from SPAN who interacted with the children and explained to them the importance of Earth Day. The programme ended with the children planting 10 trees in the compound of the centre.

SUMMARY:ADOBE Day of giving -Bringing Smiles through Science
DESCRIPTION:On 23rd April\, 20 employees of ADOBE dedicated a day towards bringing smiles through science to 30 children at a Mission Education centre of Smile Foundation\, Ghaziabad. The centre is a home to children from a minority Muslim community. The center is run only for girls and these girls being from a minority community and as an exploited gender are most in need of exposure. They lack the opportunities to meet the people who are dedicated and career focused. This day of giving had an impact of empowerment over them and would be ingrained in their minds for the days to come. \nThe introduction session started off with the employees and the children exchanging names. The kids were excited to meet the employees from ADOBE and this added to the energy and enthusiasm. After a fun and energized ice breaker\, the children and employees were paired in different groups. Each group was allocated a science related topic and had to name the plant cells and animal cells and created charts with craftwork\, volcano eruption models\, model of the solar system and major landforms. \nThe activity concluded with a presentation from each group. The children and employees innovated their presentation; this added a fun element in the end. It was a spirited way to end the activity. The children were quizzed on the topics and were thoroughly engrossed with the learning process. \nIn the end\, ADOBE handed over goody bags for each child. The kids grew fond of the employees within hours and insisted they come back.

SUMMARY:Nationwide Campaign by privileged children against Child Labour
DESCRIPTION:On the eve of Labour Day\, a nation-wide campaign against child labour was organized by Smile Foundation. School-going privileged children led the campaign\, along with Smile Foundationâ€™s Child for Child team and Smile kids\, raising awareness among the general public to put an end to child labour. Rallies were organized as the children took to the street\, mouthing slogans and carrying banners\, to highlight the issue and importance of education for all children. The campaign covered the states of Goa\, Gujarat\, Kolkata\, Chandigarh\, Mumbai\, Delhi\, Chennai\, Bangalore\, Hyderabad and Nagpur.

SUMMARY:Awareness on health and wellness conducted for girls under Swabhiman programme
DESCRIPTION:Swabhiman recently conducted a program for adolescent girls to make them aware of the importance of life skills and the importance of hygiene for girls. The program was conducted by Mrs.S.Bhuvaneswari who explained to the girls the necessity of life skills and why is it so important with examples. The second important topic of discussion was the changes the body of a girl goes through while growing up\, the emotional changes and the changes in moods. The importance of a nutritious meal and maintenance of hygiene and cleanliness at the time of menstruating was also imparted. The importance of the use of sanitary pads and other hygienic practices were also discussed. Group games were conducted so that the girls become more comfortable in discussing their problems and understand things better. \nA question and answer session was conducted afterwards so that the girls could easily clear their doubts. \nAt the end of the session\, the trainer talked about mental well-being. She advised yoga and proper sleep for good health. Also she advised them to develop useful hobbies/skills such as reading general knowledge books\, physical exercises\, drawing\, gardening\, participating in group games\, which would help them to shape their future. \nThe programme came to end with the vote of thanks by Mr.Renukadevi P.S. who was the coordinator of the event.

SUMMARY:First all women medical camp conducted in Chennai under Swabhiman programme.
DESCRIPTION:A medical camp under the Swabhimaan programme of Smile Foundation was launched on the 5th of May\, 2016 at Chennai. It started at 9.30 AM and concluded at 1.30 PM and a total of 69 patients availed treatment at the camp. \nA number of illnesses were detected and medicines were distributed for the same. Female doctors were present in the camp which made the women more comfortable to talk about their illness. The patients were happy to avail benefits of the health camp in the locality and expressed a desire that more such camps be conducted frequently.

SUMMARY:Lamps distributed to girls under scholarship programme of Swabhiman
DESCRIPTION:Rechargeable study lamps were distributed to 35 girls under a scholarship programme supported by Shinnyo-en in Delhi. These girls come from families which are surviving a hand to mouth existence and cannot afford necessities like education. Under Swabhiman programme of Smile Foundation these girls can now avail education through scholarships at esteemed places like the University of Delhi. Shinnyo-en joined hands with Smile Foundation in the year 2007 to launch a special scholarship programme for under privileged children and adolescents under Swabhiman programme and has been a key benefactor in the upliftment of the girl child under the programme.

SUMMARY:AXA Business Services Runs for Smile at the TCS World 10K Marathon
DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation took part in the TCS World 10K Marathon to support the education of girl children under its Mission Education programme. AXA Business Services from the Corporate Care teams supported Smile Foundation’s cause at the marathon. \nBesides the Smile employees and volunteers\, more than 200 employees from AXA volunteered to run at the event. One of the runners from AXA shared\, “I run to keep my body fit. This motivates me to run in support of education for the girl child. The path emerges when we walk on it….Let us make a difference by running in support of education and equality. AXA Business Services has always been a socially responsible company with a clearly defined CR strategy focusing on fundamental issues like providing shelter\, education & livelihood to the marginalized societies. \nResponsible individuals including TIM Hewitt from Australia and Varun Kumar from Chennai also joined in the efforts and supported the cause of education of girl children by participating in the TCS World 10K Marathon.

DESCRIPTION:World Hypertension Day was celebrated in Noida on the 17th of May\, 2016. The celebrations included community mobilization\, distribution of pamphlets on the topic of hypertension\, health talk/awareness session by SoW doctor and Project Coordinator was conducted with the community people. A street play on the topic of hypertension was also performed by the volunteers and daily OPD sessions were also conducted for the people. 85 beneficiaries were provided with health care services at their doorstep.

DESCRIPTION:More than 30 celebrities\, business leaders and artistes walked the ramp at the 10th edition of Smile Foundation’s Charity fashion initiative Ramp for Champs held at Orion Mall in Bangalore. Smile kids matched steps with these personalities and surprised everyone with their style and confidence. These underprivileged children were the real champs of the show as the whole evening had been organized for a sole purpose – to support their education. \nThe event was supported by Orion Mall\, Orion Festival of Giving\, Scullers\, Central\, Iris Home Fragrances\, Fervour\, Chicco India\, Prasad Bidapa Associates\, Banana Boat\, Toscano India\, Zara International Academy and The Children’s Place which made it possible for the event to be a great success.

DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation under its very prestigious programme Empowering Grassroots has partnered with Wild Ganzen to implement its first phase of CTG-Mobilizing Support Training. It is 10 day long certificate course is divided into three phase. The first phase is being organized from 24 – 28 May 2016 in New Delhi at Tivoli. The second and third phase will take place tentatively in July 2016. \nUnder this training 18 Participants from 11 Organizations are participating making it a Pan India level engagement with participants from the states of Karnataka\, Calcutta\, Delhi\, Haryana\, West Bengal\, Orissa\, Telengana\, Jammu and Gujrat dedicatedly engaging in the training.

DESCRIPTION:On 25th May 2016\, an exposure visit to Presto Drycleaners and Laundry\, Kandivili (East) was organized by the STeP centre SHED in which 35 students actively took participate. \nPresto has 44 branches in Mumbai and they provide vacancies of different designation according to education and experience. By visiting\, the students got to know about various aspects in dry cleaning process and laundry system. The staff explained the different types of work to the students and they were shown different sections of dry cleaning and packaging. The HR\, Mr. Amar Mahapadi gave valuable information about job opportunities in presto. The students could grasp minute details about the retailing sector through this visit.

Along with the students\, two instructors and the centre head visited the office. \nThe branch manager\, Mrs. Manju Gussain addressed the students and added value to the career counseling session taken by one of her colleague\, Mr. Rahul Shanbagh earlier in the month. Her support and participation helped the students to enroll with LIC to undertake part time promotional development. \nThe students were also shown places of interest such as Western Railway office\, the ground nearby with the Chakra monument\, the Parsi well\, the telecommunication centers (from outside of TATA\, MTNL and Overseas Communication. Students were excited to see the Flora Fountain\, Amar Jawan Monument and the other banking institutions in the surrounding area \nAt the end of the day the students were very excited and motivated for the exposure visit.
