DESCRIPTION:Nearly 3500 children from Ryan International and DAV Public School in Ludhiana\, Punjab\, got a treat as they watched “Karamati Coat” – an interesting film narrating the story of a poor boy\, who gets a magic coat that turns his life around and helps him learn many important lessons. \nThe film screening was followed by an interactive session where Smile Foundation’s representatives from the region\, Mr. Sukhdeep Gill and Mr. Kulvir Kumar\, discussed how the children could implement learnings from the movie in their own lives. The students responded with enthusiastic answers and a roaring applause. \nSmile Foundation has joined hands with Children’s Film Society of India (CFSI) to screen value-based films for school children across India. 10 films have been handpicked for the festival\, each highlighting a different value – ranging from friendship and family bonding\, to animal love and cultural harmony. \nUnder its Child for Child programme\, Smile Foundation visits various privileged schools across India\, and conducts such engaging sessions for the young minds\, to sensitize them about vital social issues and inculcate strong values in them from the very beginning\, helping them grow up as responsible citizens and change makers.

SUMMARY:Smile kids celebrate Children's Day with Rajhans Vidyalaya students
DESCRIPTION:Rajhans Vidyalaya\, Mumbai\, invited children from Smile Foundation’s Mission Education centre SHED to celebrate Children’s Day in a unique way. 600 students from the school as well as kids from the centre took part in a walkathon\, as an effort to encourage the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan\, which began from the school and covered all the neighbourhood areas. The children were joined by teachers from the school\, the Principal\, Mrs. Deepshikha Srivastava\, and representatives from Smile Foundation\, and everyone enthusiastically pledged to make India clean and green. \nLater\, the Principal personally distributed gifts like cricket bats\, badminton kits\, carom boards\, chess boards and many other games to the Smile kids\, along with beautifully created recycled notebooks. \nOne of the youngest girls from the Mission Education centre cut a symbolic cake to mark Children’s Day\, which was enjoyed by all the children. The Rajhans Vidyalaya students also shared lunch with the Smile kids at their school mess. \nSuch interactions between the privileged and underprivileged children are encouraged under Smile Foundation’s Child for Child (CFC) programme\, which seeks to bridge the gap between children from the two worlds.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Life Skills and Values at CIPS Kapsi
DESCRIPTION:A workshop on Life Skills and Values was conducted at the Central India Public School\, Kapsi\, in Nagpur\, Maharashtra under Smile Foundation’s Child for Child programme. More than 100 students from Class 8th to 10th participated actively in the workshop\, along with the school teachers and Principal Mr. Rajendra Mishra\, who also inaugurated the workshop. \nThe three-hour workshop covered issues central to any student’s life\, like Effective Communication (Listening & Hearing)\, Social Skills & Etiquettes\, Positive Attitude\, Setting Goals and Time Management. Various engaging activities were conducted and examples were shared with the students to help them understand the importance of these key life skills and values. To ensure that the students do not forget this as a one off session\, they were given follow-up exercises to assess their own life skills and the areas that need improvement. Sneh Thakkar\, a Class 10th student\, took up the responsibility of getting the exercise done and sharing the responses with the teachers. \nThe Principal Mr. Mishra assured to continue with this process of sharing and learning realizing that this is a long drawn process and one or two workshops won’t suffice. The students also expressed their desire to learn more and requested further sessions.

SUMMARY:Indira Camp becomes a makeshift classroom
DESCRIPTION:30 women\, mothers and expecting mothers gathered for a community awareness meeting on immunization and healthy eating at a rooftop in the Indira Camp at Malviya Nagar. The meeting which started with an interactive quiz to access the knowledge of the women on the subjects of child nutrition\, health of an expecting mother\, dietary precautions for lactating mothers etc was conducted under the Swabhiman programme of Smile Foundation. Most women had vague ideas about the issues or relied on the advice of the elders. The quiz session was followed by a detailed discussions on age-wise vaccinations for new-born children\, nutritious supplements and balanced diet for both mothers and kids\, and dietary precautions for lactating mothers. Charts\, pictures\, games and activities were used to help the women understand better. The response was very good and the women learnt a lot from the session.

DESCRIPTION:Maulana Mohammed Ali Urdu Medium School\, Pune\, Maharashtra\, invited Smile Foundation to conduct a value education session for its students. More than 350 students\, along with their teachers participated in the two hour session. \nThis was the first such session to be conducted in the school and the students were highly enthusiastic and responsive throughout. DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation has joined hands with Children’s Film Society of India (CFSI) to screen value-based films for school children across India. 10 films have been handpicked for the festival\, each highlighting a different value – ranging from friendship and family bonding\, to animal love and cultural harmony. \nStudents from Bhansali Vidya Mandir Public School in Chhindwara\, Madhya Pradesh watched some of the movies and will be watching the rest of the movies over the next few weeks. Mr. Ranjit Alexander\, Principal of the school\, inaugurated the screening. \nThe film screening is an effort towards making our children aware and sensitized about vital social issues\, and inculcate in them strong values that they can uphold throughout their lives\, growing up to be responsible citizens and change makers. SUMMARY:Block level Science Exhibition at Fatima High School
DESCRIPTION:A taluka level science exhibition was conducted at Fatima High School in Ambernath\, Maharashtra\, in association with Smile Foundation as part of the Child for Child programme. \nVarious schools from Ambernath\, Ulhasnagar\, Kalyan and Badlapur participated in the exhibition. Students from the schools had put up stalls displaying scientific experiments and phenomenon and made a really good show of them too\, going by the crowds gathered around each stall. \nColourful cultural performances and high levels of energy and enthusiasm shown by the students as well as the teachers at the exhibition made it a success.

DESCRIPTION:A community awareness session was conducted on vital issues pertaining to mother and child health at Seonthi village in Rae Bareli district of Uttar Pradesh. The session was presided over by Dr. P N Mishra\, who is also supervising the medical team of the Smile on Wheels mobile hospital project in the district.
