Globus is a retail clothing store chain which was founded in 1998 and is based in Mumbai\, India. It is part of the Rajan Raheja Group. The chain has 38 locations in 22 cities in India. In Mumbai\, it has 8 branches at Ghatkopar\, Vashi\, Thane\, Kalaghoda \, Kandivali\, etc. \nThe session started with a brief introduction of Globus and then of Mr. Amit. He then told the students about their product which is popular all over the world. There was a firm emphasis that Globus’s primary objective was to provide a product with superior quality. \nThe core area of discussion was the selection criteria for the job profile and what is expected from the selected candidates in the future. He even gave his visiting card to all the students and asked them to contact him if they are interested. At the end of the session\, many students seemed very excited about this opportunity.

DESCRIPTION:Children from Mission Education centres across India had a gala time on Children’s Day and celebrated the day in its true spirit with a mélange of colourful and fun activities. \nIn Mumbai\, the kids were invited to be part of a television show ‘Celeb with a Cause’\, on premiere entertainment channel Zoom. On the show they met renowned Bollywood actor\, Ajay Devgn and interacted with him about their dreams and aspirations. Ajay motivated the children to continue with their education while also cherishing their dreams. \nChildren from the Goregaon Mission Education centre were treated to an enriching storytelling session\, conducted by Neelesh Misra\, popular for his show ‘Yaadon Ka Idiotbox’\, on 92.7 Big FM. \nChildren from another centre in Mumbai visited OYE FM’s radio station to meet their favourite animated character\, Chhota Bheem. They also recorded some interesting bits of conversation with Chhota Bheem\, which were broadcasted on the radio channel.

During the workshop\, Shabista discussed about puberty with the SHVs informing them about the physical changes that take place in an adolescent girl’s body. At the end\, the SHVs did role plays in groups to demonstrate their understanding on the topic. \nAn animated movie was shown to introduce STI/RTI to the volunteers\, which was followed by another round of role plays. The training turned out to be extremely informative and beneficial for the volunteers\, who had earlier hesitated to talk about these issues\, but are now confident enough to be the spokespersons for these issues in their community.

SUMMARY:Students from J.H. Tarapore School help bridge the gap
DESCRIPTION:Students from J. H. Tarapore School are on a mission to help their new found friends reinvent childhood and create interest in studies. Their friends are 30 homeless children between 6 and 16 years who have till recently been wandering around Tatanagar railway platforms. \nNow inducted at Mission Education centre at Sakchi\, Jharkhand\, run in association with YMCA Jamshedpur\, most of the children are either orphans\, abandoned or runaways from Jharkhand\, Bihar\, Odisha and West Bengal. \nWith good habits\, study\, care and inviting privileged citizens as ‘foster parents\,’ the children have started dreaming about making an identity for themselves. Children from leading schools of the steel city pay a visit some time or take them out\, which is making them grow more compassionate and wanted.

SUMMARY:Interactive workshop on Immunization and Vaccination in Delhi
DESCRIPTION:An interactive workshop cum awareness session on Immunization and Vaccination was conducted in Mochi Colony\, Sundernagari\, one of the largest resettlement colonies in Northeast Delhi. Street plays were conducted in order to create awareness related to the importance of vaccination and the preventive measures that should be taken for different diseases like polio\, TB\, measles\, yellow fever etc. The beneficiaries were distributed hand bills regarding information of vaccination according to age. \nMore than 150 people from the community benefitted from the workshop and 15 infants were given vaccination.

DESCRIPTION:Hyatt is celebrating the completion of 30 years in India along with Smile Foundation\, with a series of art shows in an endeavour to help raise funds for the education of underprivileged children. Titled ‘Smile with Hyatt\,’ it will be hosting a series of exhibitions and sale of affordable artworks by 30 of India’s leading contemporary artists. \nThe first Smile with Hyatt event was organised in Mumbai in December\, which has helped bring 167 children into Mission Education programme and nurture them for a brighter future. \nSmile with Hyatt in Mumbai included works by leading Indian artists such as Anjolie Ela Menon\, Jatin Das\, Seema Kohli\, and JMS Mani among others. \nHyatt is also directly supporting the education of 300 underprivileged children at Mission Education centres in the Western\, Northern and Southern regions of India.

Usually each of the stay away from regular healthcare or even awareness owing to the nature of their work. \nThe mobile hospital visits designated CNG gas stations such as Jail Road\, Vaishali (Ghaziabad) etc. that are frequented by such drivers. \nThis year\, this Smile on Wheels has included govt. school children in North and East Delhi by collaborating with Delhi Govt.’s Chacha Nehru Sehat Yojana (Chacha Nehru Health Scheme).

But unfortunately when it comes to healthcare\, they come at the bottom of the pyramid. Poverty\, coupled with lack of education and awareness about health issues make their situation only worse. \nSwabhiman has been conducting interactive workshops on health issues with women to inculcate a health seeking behaviour\, and now with the health clinic\, their health needs are being directly met\, at their doorsteps. \nThe health clinic is expected to cover a population of 100\,000. It will provide not only preventive and curative\, but also referral and counseling services to the beneficiaries.

DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation conducted a two-day free residential capacity building programme ‘Empowering Grassroots’ for community based grassroots organizations in Mumbai\, from December 11-12. \n25 select organizations participated in the programme which was focused on building the capacities of grassroots NGOs\, keeping in mind the CSR mandate under the Companies Acts 2013 and the giving opportunity having emerged with the growing middle class of India. \nLocal fundraising for project management\, communication and sustainability\, good governance for organizational development and strengthening\, building organisational competencies through 5-C model were among major sessions conducted by various subject experts\, trainers and guest faculty. \nIn the last two years\, Smile Foundation has built capacities of 500 grassroots organisations across India\, under the Empowering Grassroots programme.

Their association will also ensure quality education for 130 underprivileged children\, through Smile Foundation’s Mission Education programme. \nThe over fifty member strong Smile team including employees from Blackrock and Amtek ran for 6kms. as part of the Great Delhi Run\, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium\, New Delhi.

SUMMARY:Crompton Greaves supports health initiatives in South India
DESCRIPTION:Crompton Greaves Limited partnered with Smile Foundation to implement a series of health initiatives in Chennai and Hyderabad. An AIDS Awareness Campaign was conducted on World AIDS Day\, in both the cities aimed at youth and adults\, which saw enthusiastic participation and debate. \nA Diabetes Health Camp was organized for the underprivileged\, in association with a Mission Education centre in Hyderabad. Children from the centre\, their parents and others from the community availed of the services at the health camp. \nCrompton Greaves will also be extending support for libraries at two Mission Education centres in South India\, under the partnership.

DESCRIPTION:Supporting a noble cause in a unique way\, Gurgaon based couple Ankur and Sangeeta Bahl flagged off their ‘Climb for Smile’ mountaineering initiative in support of Smile Foundation on December 20. The couple plan to climb the seven summits to raise awareness among the privileged society towards the cause of child education. \nThe summit was flagged off at Smile Foundation’s Mission Education centre in Gurgaon\, where Ankur and Sangeeta not only interacted with the kids\, but also shared mountaineering tips with them and showed them a movie on the same. Speaking about this initiative\, the couple said\, “Age has no barriers; you can achieve the impossible. Getting associated with a noble cause along with your passion takes it to a different level. We are glad to be associated with Smile Foundation.” \nAdding to this Mr. Vikram Singh Verma\, COO\, Smile Foundation\, said\, “Smile Foundation always believes that real change can only happen when civil society actively participates in it. I would like to thank and appreciate this gesture of Ankur and Sangeeta for understanding a cause and sensitizing more affluent people towards it. SUMMARY:Air France-KLM employees become Santa for Smile kids
DESCRIPTION:For children from Mission Education centre in Dhaula Kuan\, New Delhi\, Christmas was ushered in a couple of days earlier\, by Air France KLM. Employees from Air France-LM donned the Santa cap and celebrated Christmas with the kids\, in the true festive spirit\, spreading smiles and cheer. \nThe children at the centre had written their wishes on cards which were put up at the Christmas tree at Air France- KLM’s office. Each employee picked up a wish and made them come true for the kids. Not a single wish remained unfulfilled. \nOn 23rd December\, the employees visited the center and personally gave the gifts to the children. They interacted with the kids\, danced\, sang and had a lot of fun. The children’s joy knew no bounds as all their wishes got fulfilled.

SUMMARY:Employer Engagement Programme
DESCRIPTION:On 23rd December 2013\, Mr. Karan\, a Sales Manager from ICICI Bank visited the STeP Center SHED at Mahakali and took trial interviews of the students. The questions he asked were similar to the ones that are asked in the interviews. He also explained to the students how they should answer the question and how their body language should be while answering. He also gave important tips which will help the students to excel in their interviews and their professional life. He also explained the job profile in ICICI Bank and how their training will help them to gain skills and knowledge. \nAfter the programme\, the students had gained insights about how a sales executive works and how they should work on their weaknesses as well as their strengths to crack the interviews. Overall\, it was a very successful initiative by both Mr.Karan and the Smile Foundation.
