SUMMARY:20 Health Camps in association with NSIC
DESCRIPTION:Twenty health camps were conducted by Smile Foundation in various parts of Delhi NCR in association with National Small Industries Corporation Limited (NSIC). This initiative is part of an Integrated Community Development Project started by Smile Foundation and NSIC and was launched in December 2011. This project focuses at the holistic development of the underprivileged living in slums of Delhi NCR\, through education\, healthcare and women empowerment. \nThese health camps that were conducted provided curative\, preventive\, promotive and referral healthcare services to the people. OPD services for prevalent common ailments\, growth check-ups for children\, treatment for malnutrient cases\, dispensing of medicines for common ailments\, dental check-ups and eye check-ups were mainly the services that were made available in these camps. \nThey were conducted in 20 different slums across Delhi NCR\, namely – Rangpuri\, Tuglakabad\, Dhaula Kuan\, Mansarovar Park\, Rohini\, Sunder Nagri\, Sastri Nagar\, Jahangir Puri\, Kalyanvas\, Tilpath\, Majnu Ka Tila\, Gurgaon\, Motiya Khan\, Khori Kingsway Camp\, Jahank Puri\, Bhalaswa\, Tahirpur\, Wazirpur\, Nand Nagri and Faridabad. \nAll the health camps received overwhelming response from the people. As many as 5021 people were benefited. \nThe objective of conducting these health camps was to create awareness of general health among the people\, providing general health care services and counseling them\, on basic healthcare and hygiene. \nMajority of people were diagnosed with various common but seriously neglected problems such as diarrhea\, cholera and cataract in the eyes. There were also a few cases\, detected with major health problems; these cases were further referred to the referral hospital.

Zero AIDS related deaths”\, Swabhiman marked the day with a host of activities in all the nine intervention areas under its Integrated Slum Development Programme in Delhi NCR. \nThe activities\, ranging from workshops and open discussions on transmission and prevention of HIV/AIDS\, screening of movies on the subject\, street plays for sensitising the community about AIDS prevention\, treatment and discrimination\, and a painting competition for children on the theme of HIV/AIDS\, were conducted for 600 target beneficiaries in the nine areas of New Ashok Nagar\, Shashi Garden\, Bismil Camp\, Indira Camp\, Valmiki Camp\, Shri Ram JJ Camp\, Idgah\, Ambedkar Colony\, and Nutt Colony. \nThese activities were carried out as per a planned module in the intervention areas by partner ngo’s – Sahyogita\, Health & Care Society and ADHAAR – with the aim of sensitising the community members\, especially women and adolescents\, about the global pandemic HIV/AIDS and to make them aware of RTI/STI infections and their prevention and treatment. \nAccording to National Aids Control Organisation (NACO) report\, released on December 1\, 2012\, an estimated 1.48 lakh people died of AIDS related causes in 2011 and an estimated 20.89 lakh people were living with HIV in India.

SUMMARY:Exposure Visit at Nine Star Technologies
DESCRIPTION:On 1st December 2012\, Arunodhaya\, Center for Streat and working children\, Chennai organized an Exposure Visit for the students of Smile Twin e Learning program at Nine Star Technologies which is an e publishing MNC. 27 students participated in the exposure program. The students were welcomed by Mr.Sathiya and Mr.Sanjay and they briefed the students about the outlook of the company. The main objective of this exposure was to create awareness among the participants and enhance their knowledge on the best practice of the retail sector. \nThe students were very delighted to experience the working environment in the shopping mall. The exposure was provided to them in order to have a better understanding and improve their communication skills. The beneficiaries were given brief orientation about the nature of the work and various personality development skills. The program was a success as the interaction was informative as a result the visit came as a great inspiration for their bright and prosperous future.

SUMMARY:Career Counseling by Capt.G.S.Guhman
DESCRIPTION:On 3rd December 2012\, Don Bosco Navjeevan Centre\, Chandigarh conducted a seminar on Career Counseling for the current batch STeP students at their respective STeP centre. Capt.G.S.Guhman\, Regional Coordinator of Merchant Navy was invited as a guest lecturer for the counseling session. \nHe discussed about the importance of career counseling in this competitive environment. He suggested that Career Planning\, Career Development and Career Management are three important components in ones career. He suggested that that through these processes the beneficiaries can select their career goals and the path to these goals. \nThe program was an eye opener for the students as they got lots of information and in return it was motivation and inspiring for them. The students were very delighted and thanked Smile Foundation was lending such a luminous and bright opportunities for the students.

SUMMARY:Employer Engagement Program- Eureka Forbes
DESCRIPTION:On 06th December 2012 around 26 beneficiaries from Desh Seva Samiti participated in the engagement program conducted by Eureka Forbes. Mr. Melvin Lobo (HR- Eureka Forbes) from Eureka Forbes interacted with the students and gave them a brief overview of the products related to Eureka Forbes. Several examples of the placed beneficiaries were given during the program who have been placed with Eureka Forbes in the recent past. The program also made the students understand the importance of Team work when different ways of work profiles were mentioned to them during the program. The facilitators assured the beneficiaries that the profile would provide them with the overall development and professional growth in the future. Several queries from the students were answered during the engagement program. The overall interaction during the program benefitted the students with respect to the confidence in having such group discussions in the future.

DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation is the philanthropy partner in INVESTOTHON 2012. INVESTOTHON it is an innovative short marathon organised by CNBC TV 18 and National Stock Exchange of India Ltd (NSE) involving professionals and companies from the investment sectors. \nAround 6\,000 enthusiastic traders\, investment professionals and senior representatives of various associates of NSE were participating in the event in New Delhi. \nThe organisers chose Smile’s cause of ‘child education’ to champion during the event as a few other modes of sensitization. \nMany participants pledged to support Smile’s mission of ‘child education’ by pledging at the counter placed by the foundation. \nINVESTOTHON is scheduled to reach to five other Indian cities in coming months.

Through this initiative\, Smile has become the first development organisation to partner with Delhi Tourism. \nThe children were taken to Humayun’s Tomb\, Indira Gandhi Museum\, Nehru Planetarium and many such historical places. Apart from being exposed to rich architecture of India’s heritage\, the children were also educated about India’s freedom stuggle\, its advances in science and technology\, etc.

The engagement program came as a great motivation to the group of beneficiaries who got the feel of how the retail sector works. Several other learning also enabled the students to have a brief knowledge about various job opportunities available in the market related to it. Many students also benefitted with the fact that the program has facilitated them in enhancing their personality skills as well. They had an open discussion on how to get an entry level job in any corporate\, what do interviewers look for selection of candidates and a small session on career development.

DESCRIPTION:Around 30 odd children of Smile Foundation participated in the tenth edition of Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon on January 20\, 2013\, with Bollywood actor Juhi Chawla coming forward to support their cause of sending every child to school. \nThe children of STeP programme were also accompanied by BNY Mellon employees and volunteers from Government Law College Mumbai and Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. BNY Mellon is a leading asset management and securities services company. \nExplaining the importance of education\, Ms. Juhi Chawla asked the Smile students to commit themselves to sincerely acquiring knowledge. The students also wished her luck for her upcoming film ‘Main Krishna Hoon’. \nAn army band that plays every year to mark the victory at Kargil\, played various tunes during the event\, encouraging the students and other to give in their best. \nAround 40\,000 enthusiastic citizens participated in this year’s marathon\, which also highlighted various social causes ranging from education\, health to female foeticide and women’s safety.

He said\, “Smile Foundation is one of the reputed national level organisations working for the well-being of underprivileged women and girl children\, through activities like scholarship programme\, counselling sessions\, workshops\, and street plays for gender sensitisation and community mobilisation.” \nThe meeting was conducted by Swabhiman in association with local partner ADHAAR on January 23\, 2013\, to orient the stakeholders on the progress made under the programme and also to provide a platform for the community members to interact with the stakeholders and put forth their views. The meeting was attended by NSIC official Mukul Lall\, Swabhiman officials Nitasha Agarwal and Anil Kumar from Smile Foundation\, Mr. Arun Kumar Tandon and team from ADHAAR\, Ms. Sherry Gomes from Sur Nirman (CBO)\, Mr. R. She also extended her support to send 50 underprivileged girl child beneficiaries of Smile Foundation to school. \nShe spent a lot of time interacting with the kids and encouraged them to chase their dreams and convert them into a reality. The kids were excited to meet her and inspired by her\, they promised to work hard to achieve their aspirations. \nSpeaking about her association with Smile Foundation\, Dr. Tarita Shankar said\, “There is no better way to thank god for whatever you are bestowed with than to give back to the society which counts on your smile. I am a firm believer that education is the only means and ends to curb all social evils from the society. By educating the girl children\, the community progresses and the society become more optimistic and hopeful.” \nTarita is contributing her bit to spread a few smiles with the hope that more and more people will come forward to bring in the change they want to see in the society.

DESCRIPTION:After two successful seasons in Bangalore\, Smile Foundation in association with renowned fashion stylist Prasad Bidapa staged the third edition of its unique initiative Ramp for Champs on Februry 17\, 2013 in Mumbai. \nThe event\, sponsored by Jaguar Land Rover as the Title Partner\, was attended by Bollywood actors\, television personalities\, celebrities and corporate honchos\, who walked the ramp in support of Smile Foundation’s initiative for promotion of basic education among children from underprivileged communities. \nAcclaimed personalities like Meiyang Chang\, Kiran Sippy\, choreographer Remo D’Souza\, Claudia Ciesla\, Nisha Jamwal\, Hiten Tejvani\, Kabir Singh\, Pritish Nandy\, Aishwarya Sakuja\, Zulfi Syed\, Mini Ribeiro\, Sara Loren\, Sriram\, Amit Sana\, Namrata Dixit\, actors Tisca Chopra and Bhagyashree\, and writer Amish Tripathi sashayed down the ramp along with children from Smile Foundation. \nThey were further joined by feminist lawyers like Ms. Mrunalini Deshmukh and Mr. Zulfikar Memon\, along with top corporate representatives like Mr. Rohit Suri\, Vice President\, Premier Car Division\, Jaguar Land Rover India\, Ms. Rita Bhattacharya\, Director Corporate Communication\, LIC of India\, Ms. Bharati Mongia\, Sales Manager Air France KLM\, Ms. Tove Selnes\, Vice President HR\, Opera\, Srinivas P.P.R. DESCRIPTION:Riding on the wave of recent box office success of Kai Po Che\, actor Sushant Singh Rajput chose to celebrate a special Holi with the underprivileged children of Smile Foundation\, pledging to bring more underprivileged children in the ambit of education. \nTaking time out from his busy schedule\, Sushant visited one of the centres of Smile Foundation in Mumbai to spread some joy among the children there. He interacted with the children and gifted the children books\, chocolates\, and sweets. He played Holi with them and also danced with them to the tune of his songs. \nSharing his excitement on the occasion\, Sushant said\, “This is one of my most special Holi in a very long time. It just took me down the memory lane to reinvent myself as the child\, who just used to indulge in colours and feast and that was my way of celebrating Holi. Today\, being amongst these kids from Smile Foundation has made me feel very special. The innocence of these kids made me feel humble and touched. I loved every bit of my time with them.” \nSmile Foundation is a national level development organisation reaching out to more than 200\,000 underprivileged children\, youth and women through 185 welfare projects across 25 states of India\, on the themes of education\, healthcare\, livelihood\, and empowerment of women and girl children.

DESCRIPTION:On 21st February 2013\, an Employer Engagement Program was organised with Nestle Company at the STeP center SHED\,Mumbai. They conducted a Workshop for the Step Students\, In the event around 36 Students were present at the venue. \nSix members from Nestle Company given orientation and conducted workshop for the students.They communicated and motivated the student to join the company. In the process they briefed the students with some of the best seling products like Milkmaid\, maggi\, kalakand mix\, Etc. \nThey also prepared some of the ready to eat products for the students and also asked the students to participate The program was very informative and the outcome was useful as it helped the students to take the right decision about their career. The visit initiated for the students was considered as a best way for learning through their workshop.
