SUMMARY:20 Health Camps in association with NSIC
DESCRIPTION:Twenty health camps were conducted by Smile Foundation in various parts of Delhi NCR in association with National Small Industries Corporation Limited (NSIC). This initiative is part of an Integrated Community Development Project started by Smile Foundation and NSIC and was launched in December 2011. This project focuses at the holistic development of the underprivileged living in slums of Delhi NCR\, through education\, healthcare and women empowerment. \nThese health camps that were conducted provided curative\, preventive\, promotive and referral healthcare services to the people. OPD services for prevalent common ailments\, growth check-ups for children\, treatment for malnutrient cases\, dispensing of medicines for common ailments\, dental check-ups and eye check-ups were mainly the services that were made available in these camps. \nThey were conducted in 20 different slums across Delhi NCR\, namely – Rangpuri\, Tuglakabad\, Dhaula Kuan\, Mansarovar Park\, Rohini\, Sunder Nagri\, Sastri Nagar\, Jahangir Puri\, Kalyanvas\, Tilpath\, Majnu Ka Tila\, Gurgaon\, Motiya Khan\, Khori Kingsway Camp\, Jahank Puri\, Bhalaswa\, Tahirpur\, Wazirpur\, Nand Nagri and Faridabad. \nAll the health camps received overwhelming response from the people. As many as 5021 people were benefited. \nThe objective of conducting these health camps was to create awareness of general health among the people\, providing general health care services and counseling them\, on basic healthcare and hygiene. \nMajority of people were diagnosed with various common but seriously neglected problems such as diarrhea\, cholera and cataract in the eyes. There were also a few cases\, detected with major health problems; these cases were further referred to the referral hospital.

Dia also distributed chocolates and gifts which the children were very excited to get. \nIn the end she congratulated Smile Foundation for the work they are doing to support these underprivileged children.

DESCRIPTION:On 5.08.2012 at Arunodaya Trust an Employer Engagement Program was done\, Mr.J S Prasad \, Soft ware \, ECIL PVT Ltd. Initially he has introduced herself to the students and all the students have introduced themselves. Later he has asked the topics which they have learnt and their back ground and he was very much interested to explain about the motivation\, building self confidence and how to face interviews. \nInitially he has taken a session on carrier and importance of family. He has explained through one story and how one can develop themselves and become a good citizen of country and how to develop in life. \nLater he made the students into small groups and made them to present what they want to do become in their life and after presentations. He explained importance of the building the carrier . \nHe has made the students to know how to face interviews and he has explained by providing few examples. Each student stood and introduced himself and he made mock interviews in front of the class room. Students have enthusiastically participated in the program. The main motive is to build the self confidence level.

SUMMARY:Employer Engagement Program-BITAN
DESCRIPTION:On 8 August 2012 an Employer Engagement Program was organized for the students of STeP Center Bitan Kolkata. Representative from Vodafone Dipankar Gayen who is also an ex-student of the same STeP center came to motivate the students of the center. \nObjective of the Program \nDipankar being a successful STeP student\, his interaction with the students was of utmost importance. \n\nThe ongoing students got inspiration from him.\nDipankar got the job after successfully completing a training of 28 days\, so he shared with the students his experiences during the grooming sessions.\nHe Made the students aware of the requirements of a Customer Service Executive in Vodafone store.\nHe helped to mentally prepare the students to take up challenges and get ready to enter the job scenario.\nHis session inspired the students to be positive and focused in life\, by sharing his own experiences with them.\n\nOutcome of the program \nStudents were very enthusiastic after watching him.Dipankar’s success gave them a confidence that even they can do it. Students loved the interaction with him and all in all it was a very enriching day for the students.

SUMMARY:Samsung's hope for better health
DESCRIPTION:A health and hygiene activity was conducted at the Delhi Mission Education centre of Smile Foundation in support with Samsung. The activity was conducted under the health and hygiene intervention of “Samsung HOPE project” of Samsung. Various interactive sensitizing sessions on health and hygiene were conducted with an aim to sensitize the students and their parents about the health hazards and the ways to prevent them. SUMMARY:66th Independence Day celebration
DESCRIPTION:Smile’s Mission Education projects in Jajpur\, supported by JSL\, celebrated the 66th Independence Day with great enthusiasm. To bring on the feeling of unity and secularism all the students and teachers of the centres paid their tribute to the Tricolor. Various cultural programme were performed by the students. \nDistinguished dignitaries from Jindal Steel Limited\, members of Mother Association and members of Village Education Committees also attended the programmes. Mr. Manoranjan Mohanty\, HOD\, RHMS\, JSL\, Mr. Biswajit Tripathy\, GM\, Electrical\, JSL\, Mr. Subodh Kumar Mahapatra\, AGM\, JSL\, Mr. Sukanta Kumar Ratha\, Senior Manager\, JSL\, and Mr. Bilochana Sahoo\, CSR\, JSL were present as Chief Guests at different centres. \nAll the dignitaries addressed the students and threw light on the importance of the day and their duties towards the country. In the end sweet packets were distributed among the students and villagers. It was a rich learning experience for the students who cherished the value of freedom and patriotism.

SUMMARY:A tribute to Martyrs by Smile children
DESCRIPTION:Smile’s Mission Education centre in Delhi\, supported by Samsung HOPE project\, celebrated 66th Independence Day with pride and reverence. The celebration was conducted to cherish the spirit of India’s Independence. The celebrations began with the flag hoisting ceremony followed by a cultural progarmme. The programme comprised of inspiring speeches\, songs and dances followed by a short plays and kite flying activity. The entire atmosphere was filled with nationalism. In the end refreshments were distributed among the children.

DESCRIPTION:On 16th August 2012\, Adarsh Seva Samiti\, Dwarka conducted one Employer Engagement Program for the current batch STeP students at their respective STeP centre. Ms. Mamta Behera who is the partnership coordinator of Care India was invited as a guest lecturer for the engagement program. She discussed with the students about the various job openings in the market and informing them about the requirements of the job. \nThe main objective of coordinating the program was to prepare the beneficiaries mentally to take up challenges and get themselves ready to enter the job scenario. The whole program was very motivating as it ensured the beneficiaries that they should be enthusiastic about getting involved in such training programs as it is very important to find creative and meaningful way for them to participate so the efforts can really make a difference. They should feel that they have a positive role to play in their life and hence work hard in achieving that goal. The program was very informative and the outcome was useful as it helped the students to take the right decision about their career.

DESCRIPTION:It was very special Independence Day celebration of Smile kids this year. Sony TV’s singing reality show Indian Idol 6 invited Smile Foundation kids to be the part of the show\, which the kids were very happy to attend. The kids were seen having a cheering time around\, they also clicked picture with the judges Anu Malik\, Salim Merchant and Sunidhi Chauhan. \nA day prior\, Vipul Mehta\, one of the top four finalists on Sony TV’s singing reality show Indian Idol 6 visited the kids of Smile Foundation and spent some quality time with them. He sang songs\, danced with the kids and also gave away a few goodies such as bags and books to the kids.

SUMMARY:Two more mobile hospitals for Barmer
DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation launched two more Smile on Wheels with support from Cairn Energy in the Barmer district of Rajasthan. These mobile hospitals are providing comprehensive health services to the underprivileged people in the remote/rural villages of Barmer district. \nBoth the mobile hospitals together will be covering 40 villages in Barmer. One of them will be covering villages in the Gudamalani\, Sindri and Barmer blocks. These villages are Rawatsar\, Gonri Nadi\, Nagnechiya Doonda\, Bankaniyo Ka Awas\, Sunaro Ki Dhani\, Doodion Ki Dhani\, Beriwala Tala\, Gangasra\, Lukhon Ka Tala\, Motiano Ka Tala\, Asoon Ki Dhani\, Nathaniyon Ka Was\, Sanjata\, Poloniyon Ki Dhani\, Khuberi Beri\, Sayion Ka Tala\, Sarecha\, Budhrani Ki Dhani\, Sarno Ka Tala\, Gorsion Ka Tala. Over 20\,000 people will be benefitted directly every year through this project. \nThe second project will also be covering 20 villages also benefitting approximately 20\,000 people directly.

Total 21 students (9 girls & 12 boys) took part in this visit.Mr.Avdhesh Patel\, representative from FPAI-RTC along with Mr.Manoj Vishwakarma\, Computer instructor\, Smile Programme accompanied the students in the visit. \nMr. Uttam Ganguly (Ceo) Interacted with smile students and he answered to the various queries asked by the students regarding the production process and Human resource management. Thereafter refreshment was provided to the students. \nOut come of the Visit \nStudents learnt a lot through this exposure visit\, as they got a lot of information about the various factory divisions\, their products\, Manufacturing process & Human Resource Management. They were optimistic about the whole training program as it will bring definite and thriving change in their future.

The celebrations were conducted to pay respect and gratitude to the valuable contributions made by the teachers in the lives of the underprivileged children\, studying in the centres. \nThe event kicked off by paying tribute to the noted scholar and former president of India Shri Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan; followed by some sensitizing speech by chief guests and teachers for the children. Students also gifted some hand-made cards and flowers to their teachers. In the end sweets were distributed to all the children.

DESCRIPTION:The concept of Employer Engagement Program has been receiving greater attention from the corporate world as much as the academic world. Engagement is defined as “the extent to which people enjoy and believe in what they do and feel valued for doing it”. To provide a better platform\, Arunodhaya Trust organized an employment engagement program for the STeP beneficiaries on 8th Septeber 2012. \nMs.Kavitha\, from Software ECIL PVT Ltd started the program by giving a brief introduction about the foundation. The program was designed to suit the needs of deprived and underprivileged youths who want to get job after the completion of training program. She motivated the students of takings up jobs so that they can earn and contribute for the better and bright future of the family. They were taught about various skills like how to face interview\, and building confidence for their overall personality development. Ms.Kavitha gave a presentation on diverse career opportunities available in the market. She engaged the students in various role plays about their ambition in their life and they enjoyed the session all through out the day. Students enthusiastically participated in the program and it turned out to be successful initiative by the organization.

DESCRIPTION:On 15th September 2012 Arunodhaya Trust organized an Exposure Visit for the STeP students at Spider Electrical Company Ltd.A total no of 7 students participated in the visit program where they were greeted by the H.R manager Ms. Ambica.She gave a brief description about the company and discussed about the various department\, their work culture and every aspects of their electronic system. \nThe students were very much enthusiastic and interested in joining the company.Ms.Ambica also showed concern in recruiting the STeP beneficiaries. The program was initiated for the students so they can have a better understanding and knowledge about diverse job opportunities available in the market. At the end students were provided with the best of knowledge and the outcome of the Exposure Visit was quite remarkable.

SUMMARY:Exposure Visit at More Super market
DESCRIPTION:On 17th Sept’ 2012 the students from Green Tara STeP center was taken for a visit to “More” supermarket\, a retail chain operated by the Aditya Birla Group company.The manager welcomed students at the store.He said “I have to invest 50% less time in training students from this program as they are already trained in most fields and they are trained well in the program so their performance is very good.” \nThe students started with the entrance security counter. They saw how to check bags and look after the bag deposit counter. They also saw push carts and asked “for what are these carts used?” which they were answered that they help customer to carry large items that would otherwise be difficult to carry in a bag. Upon entering\, they saw items were divided into separate sections. They learned how it helps the customer locate an item soon. For example\, milk can be found in the dairy section\, biscuits in snacks section\, etc. Each item has a unique code that will be scanned at the cash counter. \nThe supermarket not only had food items but also personal care products\, home care products\, sanitation etc. the students walked around in the aisle and observed these sections\, learning about them. \nThe students\, in the end\, were introduced to the billing counter and the bar-code machine. The students saw a demo how an item is billed and what a bill looks like and what kind of details are printed on the bill. \nThe students after the supermarket tour felt that they have learned a lot due to this visit. They feel much more confident and think this visit will help them in future to work here or in a similar place like this.

The main objective of this exposure was to create awareness among the participants and enhance their knowledge on the best practice of the retail sector. \nThe students were very delighted to experience the working environment in the shopping mall. The exposure was provided to them in order to have a better understanding and improve their communication skills. The beneficiaries were given brief orientation about the nature of the work and various personality development skills. The program was a success as the interaction was informative as a result the visit came as a great inspiration for their bright and prosperous future.

DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation project centre in Jajpur\, supported by JSL\, celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi with much enthusiasm. This festival is celebrated to mark the advent of the master of all knowledge\, intelligence and wisdom\, Lord Ganesha. The students and staff sang devotional songs and offered aarti and prasad to Lord Ganesha. \nDistinguished dignitaries of the area and the members of Mothers Association and Village Education Committees attended the programme at different centres. \nAll the dignitaries addressed the students and threw light on the importance of the day. In the end sweet packets were distributed among the students.

The program was an eye opener for the students as they got lots of information and in return it was motivating and inspiring for them. The students gained various knowledge about various opportunities in the sector related to the company. As a result the session was very informative for them.The students were provided with an insight about the work culture in various industries. This also gives students opportunity for getting their career queries served by the professionals.

Mr. Sandeep Lakhlan \,the HR executive from Devyani International Limited was invited as the guest lecturer for the training program.A total of 29 students participated in the training program along with the staff and representative from Smile Foundation Mr. Prashant Kumar. \nMr. Sandeep started the session by giving a brief description about the organization and their policies and structure. He explained the each minute detail about retail sectors and the working culture. Ms. Sandeep also explained the career growth options in the organization and the future expansion of the retails. Further he discussed about the roles and responsibilities of an employee which plays a great role for the organizational growth. \nMr. Sandeep described the job profile and the various openings available in their company\, and also encouraged the students to participate in the interview process. He also explained the difference between the full time job and part time job\, and the attendance system in both the job type. \nAll the students were very happy and were highly enriched with the knowledge shared by the team of Devyani International Ltd.The students questioned about the internal recruitment process\, so that they can prepare themselves and gets selected with flying colors.

SUMMARY:10th Annual Mega Health Camp held in Bhilwara
DESCRIPTION:The 10th annual multi-disciplinary mega health camp was held for the rural population of Bhilwara district in Rajasthan during two weeks in September 2012. \nThe day-long free health camp is organised ever year in association with Jain Sabha Women’s Wing to cater to the rural poor living in the vicinity of Shahpura\, with a particular focus on women and children. It caters to 100 villages in the vicinity\, comprising of a population of over 20\,000. The area has only one government dispensary and in case of critical medical attention\, a patient has to be taken to Bhilwara for further treatment. Every year\, thousands of people visit this health camp to avail the services. \nThe three-month camp was conducted in 500-bed make-shift hospital\, with provisions for diagnosis\, medicines\, food\, accommodation and surgical care. More than 100 doctors and paramedical staff specialised in surgery\, ophthalmology\, gynaecology\, orthopaedics\, general medicine\, E.N.T.\, anaesthesia\, radiology\, paediatrics\, and pathology provided voluntary services at the camp. \nDuring the period\, around 3807 beneficiaries\, including women and children\, availed the services. Preparations of the health camp start months ahead of the actual event to ensure smooth execution of the programme. Besides the relentless service by the Jain Sabha Women’s Wing\, the state government also lends its mobile surgical unit for the service of the people.
