Majethia of Hats Off Production. \nWith the lives of orphaned children at the very heart of Chhoti Si Zindagi\, Zee TV joined hand with Smile Foundation and endeavoured to bring smiles on the faces of the underprivileged children that Smile supports. The channel has announced its support for the education of 100 children of Smile Foundation for one whole year. Speaking of the initiative\, Mr. Akash Chawla\, Marketing Head- Zee TV said\, “Earlier this month\, we pledged our commitment towards the cause of women’s empowerment and upliftment of society through Project Protsahan. Our association with Smile Foundation is a part of this mission. Apart from supporting the educational needs of their children\, we intend to work closely with Smile Foundation and reach out to more and more such deserving beneficiaries.” \nSmile Foundation believes that mass media lays a key role in sensitizing the civil society towards taking a more proactive role in empowering the underprivileged sections of society. This is the 11th mobile hospital in the Smile on Wheels programme. With this new unit the programme will be covering a population of 9\,97\,504 in 145 slums and villages across India. \nThis is the third Smile on Wheels that will be operating in Delhi NCR and will be operating in association with St. Stephen’s Hospital. Supported by GAIL (India) Ltd and Gulf4Good the project will be implemented in 14 slum areas of South Delhi and Gurgaon. The mobile hospital unit will visit locations namely – Sundernagar\, Meet Nagar\, Mar Colony & Tahirpur in Delhi; and Suraj Vihar\, Dhankot\, Kaliawas\, Iqbalpur\, Budhera\, Kherkhi\, Chandu\, Shadharana\, Sultanpur & Makdola in Gurgaon. It will be covering a total population of 1\,23\,500 in these locations. \nStating about their objective and partnership with Smile\, Dr. Amod –Head of Community Initiatives\, St. Stephen’s Hospital said “We have always kept focus on programmes and activities which deal with health\, education\, poverty alleviation\, providing shelter to the homeless and helping the government in policy making. St. Stephen’s has been working for the past 125 years. Through Smile on Wheels programme supported by Smile Foundation\, we are getting an opportunity to provide health services to people in 14 locations in Delhi NCR and this is a very significant step forward for us.”

SUMMARY:Coca Cola India invites Smile Foundation for the launch of 22nd Limca Book of Records
DESCRIPTION:The 22nd Limca Book of Records was released on 29 March 2011. This is one of the most prestigious events in the annual calendar of Coca Cola India Ltd. For decades Limca Book of Records has been celebrating excellence of Indians in different spheres of life. In the light of the great performances of Indian sports persons at the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games in 2010\, Limca Book of Records dedicated this edition to those achievements and has published a Sports Achievers Special edition this year. \nShri Ajay Maken\, the honorable Minister of Sports\, was the chief guest for the event. During the launch\, select top sportspersons were also honoured with “People of the Year 2011” award. The people who were honoured at the event were Preeja Sreedharan (athletics)\, Ashwini Akkunji (athletics)\, Sushil Kumar (wrestling)\, Alka Tomar (wrestling)\, Anisa Syyed (shooting)\, Renu Bala Chanu (weightlifting)\, Vijendra Singh (boxing)\, Subedar Bajrang La Thakkar (rowing) and Jwala Gutta (badminton). Among the awardees were also Somdev Devvarman (tennis)\, Sharath Kamal Achanta (table tennis)\, Krishna Poonia (athletics)\, Deepika Kumari (archery)\, Gagan Narag (shooting) and Suranjoy Singh (boxing)\, but they were not present for the event owing to their participation in some ongoing competitions. Giving away the awards were the Chief Guest Shri Ajay Maken\, Mr. Atul Singh – President & CEO of Coca Cola India and South-West Asia and Ms. Vijaya Ghosh – Editor of the Limca Book of Records. \nThe event began with an introduction of how the Limca Book of Records celebrates Indian achievements. This was followed by a quizzing session by the notable quizmaster Barry ‘O Brien. He engaged the children in stepping forward with answers to his sports related questions and every child giving correct answers were given attractive goodies. \nAlso present for the occasion were the former India Hockey Captain Dhanraj Pillai\, five times World Boxing Champion Mary Kom and India’s first representative at the Winter Olympic Games Shiva Keshavan\, as the special guests. \nShiva Keshavan\, India’s only Luge Pilot\, has been representing the country internationally since 1997. He is the youngest person to ever qualify for the Olympic Games in Luge. He took great interest in interacting with the children and answered all their innocent questions with great enthusiasm. He also made the kids understand that every single person is born with certain talent; all we need to do is identify it and then nurture the talent with great passion.

SUMMARY:Delhi NCR gets another Smile on Wheels supported by Asian Hotels
DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation in association with Asian Hotels (North) Limited launched a new unit of Smile on Wheels for 15 slum areas of Delhi and Gurgaon. This is for the first time in India that a hospitality giant has forayed in the healthcare sector for the underprivileged. This project of Smile on Wheels will be covering a population of about 1\,65\,000 in slum areas namely Khori\, Rangpuri\, Chriya Tuglakabad\, Tilpath\, Okhla\, Rohini\, Badli\, Faridabad Vatika\, Manesar Vatika\, Kalyanpuri\, New Seema Puri\, Janakpuri\, Narela\, Balabgarh & Mangolpuri and will be managed by Operation Blessing India. \nThis project has the most advanced mobile hospital unit ever developed by Smile Foundation and has been designed under technical guidance from Birla Institute of Scientific Research\, Bhimtal (A concern of BIT). Apart from the regular facilities\, this unit also has an OT section for minor surgeries; facilities such as X-Ray\, ECG and laboratory tests; a dark room facility with an automatic film processor; and an LCD screen\, which can be viewed from outside\, for the dissemination of health related information. \nWith this new project\, the Smile of Wheels programme nationally will be covering a population of 9\,97\,504 in 145 slums and villages across 9 states of the country. \nSpeaking on the occasion Mr. Shiv Jatia\, Chairman and Managing Director of Asian Hotels (North) Limited said\, “We believe an important part of doing business is to give back to the community that you live in. An association between Asian Hotels (North) Limited and Smile Foundation for their Smile on Wheels programme\, is an effort to reach out to as many communities as possible so that the basic health care facilities are made available in the rural parts of India.”

DESCRIPTION:On 28th April 2011\, a session on jobs in the telecom industry was organized at NIPUN-STeP center(Smile Foundation)\, Nihal Vihar by the Marketing team of VIVA \, a Mobile Company for the trainees The main objective for organizing the Programme was to orient the students about the jobs the telecom sector has for the youth.35 trainees attended the program on the day along with faculty of the computer and soft skills. The overall programme was quite encouraging for the job related to marketing .The progamme ended with question answer sessions and vote of thanks by the senior trainees of STeP center.

DESCRIPTION:Smile Twin e-learning Programme (STeP) aims to empower marginalized youth by enhancing their job prospects in the booming service and retail sectors by providing skills based education in tandem with market requirement. The exposure visit helps in knowing about the various types of job opportunities in the market / shopping malls\, job responsibilities and working culture and to enhance their personalities and skills . On 30 April\, 2011 the NIPUN STeP students visited West Delhi Mall\, Rajouri Garden and Select City Walk\, Saket.. At West Delhi Mall interaction sessions were conducted by trainees and Managers of Big Bazar\, Café Coffee Day and McDonalds. The overall exposure visit was very interactive\, informative and useful for the trainees as well as NIPUN-STeP faculties.

This three day workshop ‘s objective was : To unleash the hidden potential\, overcoming the past conditioning and limiting belief\, developing a success formula\, inculcate leadership traits and success strategies\, enhancing confidence\, enthusiasm and strengthening human relationships. Developing an overall Winning Personality also to enable them for a positive change in their personalities. The Methodology was Interactive having Group Discussions\, Games & Simulations.

The workshop created awareness about personal grooming and provided tips to stay healthy. \nThe workshop made the participants acquainted about the fact that beautician and health management are emerging as new career options in the current scenario. The presenters talked about the significance of diet & nutrition to avoid dangerous diseases. They also informed the participants about VLCC’s internship programs and diploma courses. The presenters also emphasized on the importance of using herbal and Ayurvedic products to minimize the use of chemicals on the skin. \nVLCC is widely recognized for its scientific weight loss solutions and its therapeutic approach to beauty treatments. With a staff strength of nearly 6000\, over two-third of whom are experienced specialists including medical doctors\, nutritionists\, psychologists\, cosmetologists and physiotherapists and having served over 10 million customers since its inception\, VLCC is the largest and most-preferred brand in the Wellness domain in the countries it operates in.

The employability programme has been designed to offer job oriented skills to the youth. This six month course aims to impart training in basic computers\, retail management skills along with proficiency in spoken and written English.

SUMMARY:Multi-disciplinary mega health camp in Bhilwada
DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation organized the 9th annual multi-disciplinary free mega health camp was in Bhilwara district of rural Rajasthan. Smile has been organizing this mega health camp for the past seven years in association with the Jain Sabha Women’s Wing. This mega health camp provides free medical facilities to the poor people with a motive of bringing finest healthcare facilities to the underprivileged living in the vicinity of Shahpura in Bhilawada. There are 100 villages in the vicinity with a population of over 20\,000 who are catered to by this health camp every year. The area has only one government dispensary and in case of critical medical attention\, a patient has to be taken to Bhilwara for further treatment. Every year\, thousands of people visit this health camp and over 1000 people avail the services. The health camp is a boon for the villagers who do not have access to proper healthcare service. \nThis is a multi-specialty camp offering multi-disciplinary health care services including investigative and surgical interventions by a dedicated team of medical experts. More than 100 doctors and paramedical staff specialized in surgery\, ophthalmology\, gynaecology\, orthopaedics\, medicine\, E.N.T\, anaesthesia\, radiology\, paediatrics and pathology work together to provide voluntary service at the camp. Along with free diagnosis and medical treatmensts\, beneficiaries are also provided free food\, stay and transportation at the camp. \nThis year the camp saw a total number of 5534 beneficiaries. Utensils and blankets were also distributed to the patients this year.

SUMMARY:Visit to Apne Aap SteP centre
DESCRIPTION:A visit from Sooch Foundation representing Asset Foundation was faclilitated by Smile on 15th September 2011. The newly established STeP centre with the partner organisation Apne Aap focusses on special community to target beneficiaries from the vulnerable group and children of Commercial Sex Wrokers in the particular Community. \nCurrently\, 26 girls from vulnerable group are being trained at the STeP centre from last two months and the process to establish several such sub-centres in the nearby community is under process. During the visit a brief introductory session was done with the students followed by the future plans of the girls. Lot of girls specifically mentioned that the program has made them understand that learning computers is not difficult now a days. ” The fact that this center is located very close to our home\, we really feel that this 6 month program would bring about positive changes in our lives\,” added Poonam Kumari who has passed Class XII and wants to become a Computer Trainer. \nThe visitors from Texas\, US were overwhelmed to the response from all the girls who have completed Basic Word & Paint Skills on Computer. ” They are really working hard to prove themsleves in the outer world\,” Said Ms. Caroline \, one of the visitor from Sooch Foundation. The visit concluded after a discussion with the instructors and coordinators at the center to give the visitors a glimpse about the operational aspect of the program.
