DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation and International Management Institute (IMI)\, New Delhi came together\, for IMI’s annual marketing summit Srijan 2010. This summit is organised by Jagriti\, the social cell of IMI\, every year. a student driven body that provides a platform to the students of the college who have the desire to commit themselves for the welfare of the society and wants to add some value to it. Ever since its inception in 2008\, Jagriti has been involved in the handling of various NGO projects and organizing of events like b-school driven initiatives\, blood donation camps\, energy saving campaigns\, social awareness week\, NGO summits etc. \nThis year the summit was organized with a case study competition and was named Swashrit. The goal of Swashrit\, meaning self dependent or self-sustained\, was to understand and highlight the real issues faced by Smile Foundation in their mission of sensitizing the citizens and instilling in them a sense of responsibility and accountability towards the society so that they actively take part in the development process. \nThe response was overwhelming with Jagriti receiving 62 entries from the various major b-schools of the country including IIMs\, XLRI\, FMS\, MDI\, IIFT etc apart from the students of IMI themselves. Out of all the entries received\, 5 teams were shortlisted for the final round where they were invited to present the solutions they had come up with. The shortlisted teams were from XLRI Jamshedpur\, IIFT Kolkata\, JBIMS\, IIFT Delhi and IMI. The competition was evaluated by an eminent panel of judges from Smile. \nTeam ‘Avahaan’ from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS)\, Mumbai walked away with the first prize and a prize money of Rs. 8000\, while team ‘Anukalp’ from IMI came a close second\, winning a prize money of Rs. 5000. The team from JBIMS Mumbai’s team came up with the plan of capitalizing on social media\, introduction of ‘Be Human Points’\, introduction of Social Mobilizer Groups\, launching of campus ambassador programs etc to mobilize and motivate the citizens. The team from IMI shared their views about investing in civil society and civic engagement\, promoting citizen action for participatory democracy and development\, innovative local governance approaches for better developmental plans and strengthening civic engagement for multilateralism. \nTo bring the summit to a close\, Ms. Manju Singh from Smile Foundation addressed all the people on behalf of Smile Foundation. She shared her views on the presentations made\, the strategies proposed\, how b-school students can effectively contribute and about the various other issues faced by social organisations. Prizes were then given out. The event bears testimony to the fact that the application of business solutions to various social causes can be highly rewarding\, and the involvement of b-school students can result in the generation of highly innovative ideas and plans which can provide a new dimension to the work of the NGOs and social work in general.
