DESCRIPTION:In continuation with series of Employee Engagement Programme- Smile Foundation and Barclays Bank\, GRCB India again came together on 17th March 2010 and celebrated the 4th Volunteering Day. \nThe programme began with a round of introduction between the beneficiaries and the employees of the bank. The whole group of students was divided into teams to increase the spirit of competition and build team spirit among them. \nThe first activity was theme based. Chart papers were distributed to each team and they were asked to discuss and write good and bad practices for “Saving the Environment”. One chosen member from each team then presented the team’s views. \nThe students and the employees enjoyed the motivational and thought provoking movie “Who Moved My Cheese”. The teams did a review of movie and shared their understandings with everyone. The Barclays team in the end explained to the students the right message of the movie. \nBarclays Bank employees also conducted a quiz round which helped in improving the awareness levels of the students on various topics of general knowledge. I believe that Aashayein will bring a few more underserved children of our country to the path of empowerment\,” says KK\, the famous playback singer from the country\, ”ashayein is also an opportunity for privileged and sensitized people like us to come together for a worthy cause of children\, who are the future of a nation. Children hold the key to the progress of our nation\,” adds KK. \nAashayein is an effort from Smile Foundation to mobilize more support for child education under ‘Mission Education\,’ which is a national level programme focusing on basic education for underprivileged children and youth. \nSmile Foundation believes that whether you are addressing healthcare\, poverty\, population control\, unemployment or human rights\, there’s no better place to start than in the corridors of Education. \nBecause education is both the means as well as the end to a better life: means\, because it empowers an individual to earn his/her livelihood and the end because it increases one’s awareness on a range of issues – from healthcare to appropriate social behaviour to understanding one’s rights – and in the process evolve as a better citizen. \nTalking about Aashayein\, H. N. Smile Foundation believes that quality education is the key to overcome poverty in a single generation and is imperative in creating a future for the underprivileged section\, thereby adding to the progress of our nation. \nSmile Foundation promotes and catalyses universal education among underprivileged children\, create the necessary process to embrace these children into mainstream education in a sustained manner\, facilitate them to emerge as productive assets\, and set the foundation for nation building. \nThe event was organised to support the education of less privileged children under the Mission Education project of Smile Foundation. SUMMARY:Smile Foundation brings 'Smile on Wheels' to Nagpur

Talking about the need of efficient healthcare services in the region\, Harish Nandan Sahay\, Director Operations\, Smile Foundation said\, “Launch of ‘Smile on Wheels’ in Nagpur is meant to deliver health care and support to the ‘aam admi’ with major focus on children and women living in slums and rural areas of the district.” \nSmile Foundation believes that the concept of public private partnership for providing health care services at the door steps of the underprivileged communities needs to be taken up at a large scale in India. “With necessary support from our partners\, our mission of making the health care facilities accessible and affordable for the target communities across the country will be a success. It will provide health care services which includes medical examination\, laboratory testing and treatment at doorstep of the underprivileged population.” With an objective to strengthen the rural health care system and also create awareness on prevention of various diseases\, we plan to reach out to around seventy five thousand (75\,000) populations in 25 villages in the initial three months of operations\, informed the partner.” \nSustainability is the core value of any development processes and without empowerment of community people sustainable social development is not possible. “We want to build our social initiatives with an underlying objective of achieving self sustainability model where people are empowered to take forward the community activities\, added Nandan Piramal. \nThe survey and area research for Nagpur suggests that there is a lack of basic healthcare services in many of the urban slums and rural villages. Children suffer with diseases of the ear and women are found to be anaemic in large numbers. ‘Smile on Wheels’ plan to take measures for treating such diseases apart from day to day healthcare needs of the population. The mobile hospital will have a competent team of doctors and para-medical staff to cater to the specific health care needs of each patient. Salaidhaba\, Buti Bori \, Kanholibara\, Borgaon \, Takalgat have been identified as localities where there is an immediate need for quality health care services to improve the standard of life. \nAt present\, ’Smile on Wheels’ is also operational in Delhi\, Uttar Pradesh\, Tamil Nadu\, Andhra Pradesh\, Gujarat\, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand.
