SUMMARY:Smile felicitates gymnast Ashish Kumar for his outstanding performance in CWG 2010
DESCRIPTION:Smile organized a felicitation ceremony for Ashish Kumar\, the silver and bronze medal winner in gymnasts\, at the Commonwealth Games 2010. Ashish Kumar is an Indian gymnast from Allahabad\, who won the first-ever medal in gymnastics for India. He won the silver medal in Men’s Vault and bronze medal in Men’s Floor to become the most successful Indian gymnast in Commonwealth Games history. \nYouth beneficiaries of Smile Foundation interacted with Ashish and presented him with a certificate for being an inspiration to them. He has truly set an example for them for the fact that determination and hard work together can win every battle. It was very heartening to see Ashish Kumar taking out time from his very tight schedule to spend time with the underprivileged community. He is a true epitome of determination and a perfect example of fighting the odds and turning his dreams into breathing reality and is true inspiration for these young boys and girls. \nSpeaking of this experience of spending time with the young beneficiaries\, Ashish said “This is a wonderful experience as I am interacting with the community on such a personal level. I see the spark\, to excel\, amongst all the kids and I will be more than happy to be associated with them in whatever way I can. I would also congratulate Smile Foundation for this ambitious and wonderful project that is benefiting these young boys and girls in shaping better lives for themselves.”

SUMMARY:Enriching English Training
DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation India in association with The Centre for Learning Resources (CLR)\, Pune in partnership with Tech Mahindra has brought forth a unique English tutorial concept – Yuva English. Yuva English is directed toward improving the quality of spoken English and developing the conversational skills of young adults belonging to the marginalized and underprivileged strata of the society. \nFor the propagation and implementation of this concept\, a training session was organized from the 21 – 25 February 2011 \, at CLR \, for Smile Foundation partners. The instructors persistently focused on the need to brush the spoken English of the learners rather than working upon their knowledge of grammar. The reason being that\, Yuva English is designed to assist young individuals deprived of a good schooling background\, to better their spoken English\, ignoring their inability to use grammar correctly. \nAs part of the training programme\, the participants needed to role play. The role plays were done on an individual basis as well as a group activity. In each of the role plays the theme was a virtual classroom situation. The role plays were to be done with the help of the instructions provided in the Instructors Manual and also the improvisation skills of the trainees. Overall\, it was an enriching and a valuable experience that allowed each participant to monitor and analyze himself/herself in a comfortable environment\, imbibing what is best and simultaneously working on his/her flaws.
