SUMMARY:Washing hands and keeping away from diseases
DESCRIPTION:Hand washing is an important part of our daily activities. One should wash hands before and after eating and keep hands clean to avoid a number of diseases as our hands carry dirt and bacteria from different places. It is important to teach children the benefits of hand washing at a young age so that it does not hamper their health and healthy habits can be inculcated. \nAn IEC activity was recently conducted at a school in Gurugram where the doctors addressed the children about hand washing and why is it important for good health. Hand washing kits were also distributed to the children and the children were also given a demo of how to wash hands properly. \nSmile on Wheels programme at present has 34 operational projects in 265 remote villages and urban slums across India\, directly benefitting over 400\,000 lives in a year. \nSmile Foundation is a national level development organisation directly benefitting over 400\,000 children and their families every year\, through more than 200 live welfare projects on education\, healthcare\, livelihood and women empowerment\, in over 950 remote villages and slums across 25 states of India.

SUMMARY:Awareness on skin diseases and water borne diseases
DESCRIPTION:As the monsoon sets in it is very important for people to take preventive measures against a number of diseases which spread due to stagnation of water etc. People in urban slums and rural areas are most affected by these diseases because they lack awareness and take little or no preventive measures. \nSmile on Wheels recently conducted an awareness session for the people living in the urban slums of Ahmadabad. The people were sensitized about the measures to be taken in cases of diarrhea and other skin diseases. The volunteers and doctors also spoke about the harms of letting dirty water stand in pools and drains and the steps to be taken in case of such situations. \nThe Smile on Wheels programme has so far provided free healthcare services to more than 10 lakh children and families. \nSmile Foundation is a national level development organisation directly benefitting over 400\,000 children and their families every year\, through more than 200 live welfare projects on education\, healthcare\, livelihood and women empowerment\, in over 950 remote villages and slums across 25 states of India.
