SUMMARY:Imbibing values of the nation's forefathers
DESCRIPTION:Sainath Vidya Mandir\, Nagpur invited Smile Foundation to conduct a Value Education Workshop for its students. More than 800 students participated in the workshop voluntarily. \nSmile Foundation visits various ‘privileged’ schools across India and conducts engaging sessions for the young minds under its national programme named ‘Child For Child’ (CFC). It sensitizes children towards various causes\, instills them with value system and let them realize responsibilities to grow up as a responsible citizen. \nThe sole topic of the one-hour session in the school was based on inspiring change-makers\, pioneers and leaders of India who dedicated their lives for the greater cause of the society. \nIt included Gautam Buddha who gave the Panchasheel (Do not lie\, Do not Steal\, Do not Drink\, Do Not Kill\, Respect Women)\, Chattrapati Shivaji who stood for secularism\, championed Swaraj and respect for women; Jyotiba Phule and Savitri Bai Phule who despite all odds spread education amongst the common masses and specifically amongst women; Chhattrapati Shahu Maharaj who gave scholarship to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and encouraged social equity during his regime; Bhagat Singh\, Rajguru\, Sukhdeo\, who fought India’s Independence and went to the gallows with smiling faces; Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar\, Mahatma Gandhi\, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad\, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel and Mother Teresa. \n“We explained to the children that as a nation we could send a spacecraft to Mars but still we lagged in basic education and primary health services without which we could neither become a Super Power nor be a developed society. The children were appealed to take lessons from our forefathers and great leaders to carry forward their unfinished tasks\,” says Smile Foundation’s Nagpur representative Mr. Jitendra Deshmukh\, who conducted the workshop.
