DESCRIPTION:On 17th Sept’ 2012 the students from Green Tara STeP center was taken for a visit to “More” supermarket\, a retail chain operated by the Aditya Birla Group company. The manager welcomed students at the store. He said “I have to invest 50% less time in training students from this program as they are already trained in most fields and they are trained well in the program so their performance is very good.” \nThe students started with the entrance security counter. They saw how to check bags and look after the bag deposit counter. They also saw push carts and asked “for what are these carts used?” which they were answered that they help customer to carry large items that would otherwise be difficult to carry in a bag. Upon entering\, they saw items were divided into separate sections. They learned how it helps the customer locate an item soon. For example\, milk can be found in the dairy section\, biscuits in snacks section\, etc. Each item has a unique code that will be scanned at the cash counter. \nThe supermarket not only had food items but also personal care products\, home care products\, sanitation etc. the students walked around in the aisle and observed these sections\, learning about them. \nThe students\, in the end\, were introduced to the billing counter and the bar-code machine. The students saw a demo how an item is billed and what a bill looks like and what kind of details are printed on the bill. \nThe students after the supermarket tour felt that they have learned a lot due to this visit. They feel much more confident and think this visit will help them in future to work here or in a similar place like this.
