SUMMARY:8th Multidisciplinary Mega Health Camp at Bhilwada
DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation in association with Jain Sabha Women’s Wing organised the 8th multidisciplinary free health camp at Shahpura in Bhilwara district of Rajasthan. The camp was inaugurated on September 17\, 2010. This camp is organized ever year to cater to the rural poor living in the vicinity of Shahpura and focuses on the health issues related primarily to children and women. \nThe health camp had a 500 make-shift bed hospital\, and provided free diagnosis\, medicines\, food\, accommodation and surgical care. More than 100 doctors and paramedical staff specialized in Surgery\, Ophthalmology\, Gynaecology\, Orthopaedics\, Medicine\, E.N.T.\, Anaesthesia\, Radiology\, Paediatrics\, and Pathology provided voluntary service at the camp. \nIncluding men\, women and children\, there were 406 people\, who availed surgical services; 215 for orthopedic care; 245 for ENT; 168 for gynecological treatment; 1078 for eye check ups; 493 for general health check up; 135 for dental care; and 52 for tuberculosis treatment. \nThe purpose of this health camp is to take healthcare services to the doorsteps of the most underprivileged population living in remote rural areas who are either out of reach from healthcare facilities or too poor to afford it. The health camp caters to the healthcare needs of about 20\,000 people living in about 100 villages in the vicinity of Shahpura. The area has only 1 government dispensary and in case of critical medical attention\, a patient is taken to Bhilwara for further treatment. Every year\, thousands people visit this health camp and over 1000 people avail the services. The health camp is a boon for the villagers who do not have access to proper healthcare service. \nThe entire Jain Samaj Women’s Wing\, Rajasthan in collaboration with Smile Foundation works months ahead of the programme making arrangements for the smooth execution of the camp. Besides the relentless service by the Women’s Wing\, the Government of Rajasthan also lends out its mobile surgical unit for the service of the people.
