SUMMARY:Global perspectives on civic driven changes in Kenya workshop
DESCRIPTION:Smile Foundation participated in the workshop on civic driven changes organised in Limuru\, Kenya. from 8th to 10th of March 2010.The workshop helped in developing an understanding on the involvement of people at large in the development process to address the issues of poverty\, marginalization and human rights . The objective of the workshop was to build global perspectives on the socio and economic concerns that are influencing the world. Forty four participants from across the globe were a part of the workshop representing the uniqueness of the work in their organisations. Most of these organisations are working in the area of education and healthcare. Each organisation presented its case studies and the different aspects of community mobilisation that they are dealing with. \nThe three dayworkshop organized by ‘Together for Change alliance’ began with a session to get acquainted with the alliance\, followed by the introduction of the organisations through group work and images. Sharing of case studies of each orgainsation was a major component of the workshop to develop understanding in the areas of community mobilisation .The workshop also brought into light the opportunities for identifying civic driven changes. The role of donor agencies and the implementing partners in the civic driven changes were also highlighted. \nAbout Together for Change Alliance \nIn 2009 four Dutch organisations formed the ‘Together for Change alliance’ to strengthen the work and to increase the impact for the well-being of children. The organisations consist of International Child Support(ICS)\,Wereldkinderen(WK)\, WildeGanzen(WG) and SOS Kinderorpen (SOS).The alliance has gained strength by a range of international and local organisations working in Africa\, Asia and Latin America\, the together for change Network The alliance believes that people around the world are capable to drive their own change and willing to ensure the well-being of the children. Civic driven change is one of the binding factors in the programme of the alliance. The alliance has envisioned that\, people around the world are capable to drive their own change and are willing to ensure the well-being of children.
