Monika loves to read and play with her friends. She is a happy kid, but it was not so until a few years ago. Monika’s father passed away when she was a little girl. Her mother did odd jobs initially to support the family of four earning whatever she could to provide two meals a day. Monika’s mother wanted to educate her children but because of the lack of money she could not.
A survey conducted by Mission Education volunteers bought Monika and her siblings to the Mission education centre supported by Target, Karnataka. The teachers informed her mother how Monika’s education would be free of cost, her nutritional needs would be taken care of during school lunch and she would be encouraged to follow her dreams. Monika’s mother was overjoyed and began sending her to school every day. Monika’s mother now works as a maid and tries to provide everything that Monika would need to be successful in her studies.
