Day-out for Swabhiman scholarship students
59 extraordinary girls from Smile Foundation went for an exciting and educational exposure visit organised under the Swabhiman programme, to explore major landmarks of New Delhi including Red Fort, Science Centre and India Gate.
These underprivileged girls have received a merit-based scholarship under Swabhiman, to complete their education. Many of them have also become health volunteers and health educators within their community and spread awareness among their peers, spearheading the movement of change.
The girls were thrilled and enthusiastic to learn new things about history and science, which touch their lives in some way or the other. Their eagerness to gain knowledge was quite evident going by their never ending questions.
Swabhiman is an empowerment programme for women and the girl child which is based on an innovative and highly effective approach named the “4-S Model”, which means Seeking Healthcare as a Behaviour, Support through Education, Support from Men through Male Involvement, and Sustaining Change in the Community. As many as 150,000 girls and women have benefited from four intensive operational projects.
