Providing education to the youth in the slums of Raipur
A major percentage of the population in Raipur belongs to marginalized groups of the society and migrants who have come to Chhattisgarh from across the country in search of alternative livelihoods. These people settle in slum colonies that have unhygienic conditions and lack basic facilities like adequate food and water. Their primary source of income includes daily wage labor or household jobs in the area.
This project is an effort to improve the lives of youth belonging to the vulnerable or marginalized sections of the society and give them a chance at dignified living. For the same, a center has been set up with facilities including computer systems, printer and broadband service. Every year, two operating batches of 60 students each are admitted for the computer literacy programme that is being run here.
Besides providing computer training, the project focuses on English speaking and personality development of the students as well. Exposure visits to the corporate sectors ensure that the students are prepared for the challenges posed during the job and recognize their own fields of interest. After the completion of the course, evaluations are done and placement assistance is provided to the top rankers.
