Creating job opportunities for the underprivileged in Banashankri
This STeP project has been designed to impart employability training to the underprivileged youth living in the slums of Banashankri, Bangalore. Its target is to train 240 youths every six months and provide job assistance to help them earn a respectable living.
Banashankri is a thickly populated slum locality in Bangalore, inhabited by people below the poverty line who work as daily wage labor to fend for their families and children. A major percentage of this population is deprived of basic education and thus, lacks the skills that enable them to have a successful career in the growing job market. Keeping this in view, training classes are conducted under this project at two centers in Banashankri colony, namely Yarab Nagar & Ilyaz Nagar.
The course module of these classes is designed to meet the demands of the ever-changing educational system and includes subjects like English, Basic Computers, Retail and Basic Management, Soft Skills and Personality Development. Activities like Employee Engagement Program, Career Counseling and Exposure Visits make an important part of this 6-month training. Placements are conducted at the end of the course to tap in the potential of youth and add value to their lives.
Smile has partnered with Raza Educational & Social Welfare Society to implement the STeP Project.
