About the Partner
Sisters of the Cross, Crucelian Society, Raipur, Branch lakhanpur are the implementing Organization of the project. Vidya Jyoti Primary school is the unit of Raipur Crucelian Society, Raipur. This Society was registered under Madhya Pradesh Societies Registration Act 1959, registered on 3rd October 1972. There-after, after the division of Madhya Pradesh it was registered under the Act 1973, on 19th February 2001.
At the very inception of the Organization, a balwadi (Nursery) was initiated for the poor children of the area in the year 1992 having the strength of 35 children at the initial stage. Every year one class was introduced and reached up to 5th class in the year 1997-98. The number of children increased year by year by and the school acquired recognition from the education department. At present a total number of 252 children are schooling from Lakhanpur and neighboring 72 villages.
About The Project
This project includes a non formal education centre for the underprivileged children residing in the Lakahnpur, Surguja district in Chhattisgarh. The population residing in that area indigenous tribal belonging to various ethnic groups and others are schedule caste, Hindus, Christians and Muslims. As the socio economic condition are not good and they practice many superstitious practices. As many factors hampering their development, then there is a need for some such initiatives.
The main objective of this programme intervention has been upholding human dignity through education and awareness programmes: to ensure all the underprivileged children have access at laest primary education, providing children joyful leaning experience towards all round development, reducing drop-out rates and to improve nutritional status of the children to enhance cognitive and physical development.
This project also aims to sensitize parents on the importance of education and health for their children.
