Transforming lives by the power of education

This Mission Education project provides primary education to children from socio-economically marginalized communities in the slum clusters of Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh.

The major population of the target area comprises of socially excluded groups who earn their livelihood by engaging themselves in daily labour work and other low income unskilled activities. Lack of proper educational infrastructure and healthcare support, adding to the social alienation had led to ignorance and poverty persisting generation after generation; preventing the empowerment of these people.

The project aims to ensure quality education for children in the age group of 6-14 years, from this community, living in difficult circumstances and suffering from social seclusion. It identifies and enrolls these children and works towards their holistic development by equipping them with information and knowledge for developing their intellectual strength, skills and creative talents. The ultimate goal is to prepare these children for mainstreaming into the formal educational setup.

Mother’s committees are formed under the project to raise awareness about child rights and significance of education in the community. The project also promotes positive behavioral change in the lives of these children by making them aware of health and hygiene practices.

Smile Foundation has partnered with Mitwa Mahila Kalyan Evam Seva Samiti for this project.
