About the project :
The state of Bihar has the lowest literacy rate of 47.53%. The dropout rates at various stages of education in Bihar are extremely high as compared to such rates for the country as a whole.
So, it is imperative to support to the learning need of the underprivileged children. Smile Foundation in association with Diksha Foundation took a step ahead by initiating a non-formal education centre KHEL- Knowledge Hub for Education and Learning Project in Patna.
The total of 275 beneficiaries comprises of 165 identified children directly from ‘Navjeevan Village’ and 100 children from nearby villages.
As a part of this project a centre has been set up in Patna for education of children who have either never been to school or are school drop-outs. Through this project Smile Foundation will cater to socially and economically destitute children residing by railway tracks situated at Ambedkar Path near Jagdeo Path. The people residing there are largely daily wage labourer. Their low economic status is the reason behind their ignorance towards education.
The objective of this project is the dissemination of appropriate and context specific education content for out of school children, to provide quality education in form of an interactive education pedagogy equipped with ICT. And to create cadre of socially sensitized and empirically equipped young adults through access to tools of education and skill development. The project is being helping 75 children belonging to an underprivileged community.
By providing remedial and non formal education Smile Foundation hopes to build self sustainable society.
