20 Health Camps in association with NSIC
Twenty health camps were conducted by Smile Foundation in various parts of Delhi NCR in association with National Small Industries Corporation Limited (NSIC). This initiative is part of an Integrated Community Development Project started by Smile Foundation and NSIC and was launched in December 2011. This project focuses at the holistic development of the underprivileged living in slums of Delhi NCR, through education, healthcare and women empowerment.
These health camps that were conducted provided curative, preventive, promotive and referral healthcare services to the people. OPD services for prevalent common ailments, growth check-ups for children, treatment for malnutrient cases, dispensing of medicines for common ailments, dental check-ups and eye check-ups were mainly the services that were made available in these camps.
They were conducted in 20 different slums across Delhi NCR, namely - Rangpuri, Tuglakabad, Dhaula Kuan, Mansarovar Park, Rohini, Sunder Nagri, Sastri Nagar, Jahangir Puri, Kalyanvas, Tilpath, Majnu Ka Tila, Gurgaon, Motiya Khan, Khori Kingsway Camp, Jahank Puri, Bhalaswa, Tahirpur, Wazirpur, Nand Nagri and Faridabad.
All the health camps received overwhelming response from the people. As many as 5021 people were benefited.
The objective of conducting these health camps was to create awareness of general health among the people, providing general health care services and counseling them, on basic healthcare and hygiene.
Majority of people were diagnosed with various common but seriously neglected problems such as diarrhea, cholera and cataract in the eyes. There were also a few cases, detected with major health problems; these cases were further referred to the referral hospital.
