Multi-specialty mega health camp in Bhilwada

Smile Foundation organized its 9th annual multi-disciplinary free mega health camp in Bhilwada district of Rajasthan. This camp is organized every year to cater to the healthcare needs of rural poor living in the vicinity of Shahpura. This is a multi-specialty camp offering multi-disciplinary health care services including investigative and surgical interventions by a dedicated team of medical experts every year. This camp provides free diagnosis, medicines, surgical care, food, stay and transportation to the people. There are about 100 villages with a population of 20,000 that this mega health camp has been catering to, for the past seven years. There were a total number of 5,534 beneficiaries in the mega health camp this year. Smile Foundation also distributed a set of utensils and blankets to the patients this year.

New Mobile Hospital for outreach areas in Greater NOIDA

Smile Foundation launched a new mobile hospital for providing preventive, curative and promotive healthcare services to the less privileged in Begumpur village of Greater NOIDA. This mobile hospital has been initiated in partnership with Moser Baer Trust, Times of Money, Steel Authority of India Limited and Gulf for Good. This mobile hospital will be covering a population of 26,000 in 10 outreach areas of Greater NOIDA which are Kakrala, Bhooda, Begumpur, Surajpur, Nagla, Gejha, Aager, Sultanpur, Hazipur, Sultiana, and Nayagaon. Chief Development Officer of Gautam Budh Nagar Ms. Sheetal Verma, Director Human Resources – Moser Baer India Limited, Mrs. Nita Puri and Director – Smile Foundation, Mr. H.N. Sahay were present for the inaugural event.

Acknowledging the importance of the programme, Ms Sheetal Verma, said, “This mobile hospital will not only address the medical programme but also bring about a change in the way villagers will look at their own well being.”

New Stepping Stones

Smile Foundation launched four new STeP centers in Kolkata, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Jaipur. The new project in Kolkata has been launched with support from Samsung Electronics. Samsung has been a continuous supporter for Smile Foundation, in its different initiatives, as part of their CSR initiative “Samsung Hope Projects”. The Jaipur center has been launched with support from Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL). The STeP center in Tamil Nadu was inaugurated in Salem city. The Bishop of Salem district was invited as the chief guest and inaugurated the center. These new projects will be implemented by Bitan in Kolkata, Prayatan Sanstha in Jaipur and Samvedana in Gujarat. Smile acknowledges both, its supporters and its implementing partners, for their invaluable support.

 


Enthusiastic youth of Smile Twin e- Learning Programme

Learning and sharing is an integral part of Smile Foundation’s Smile Twin e-Learning Programme (STeP). Further working on this part and to encourage on-field practice, Smile Foundation organised 6 exposure visits for the students of STeP. The exposure visits were organised in renowned retail stores and malls like Pantaloons, Big Bazar, Vishal Mega Mart, Westside, Select City Walk, Big Bazar, Cafe Coffee Day and McDonalds across Kolkata, Nagpur, Ratlam, Delhi, Mumbai and Lucknow. Interaction sessions were organized for the students by managers of these outlets and malls for STeP students. Students were oriented about basics of jobs in the retail sector in these sessions.

The exposure visit for the STeP students was organised to showcase the practices implemented in the field of Retail.

Such visits for the students build on the knowledge and confidence in them and encourage their zeal to work on field and achieve their desired goals. The students got an idea of corporate industry and their operational details. These visits have been very interactive and informative for the STeP students in understanding the insight of the retail sector.

Barclays employees engaging students in activities

Barclays is one of the major supports of Smile Foundation. And have been regularly supporting various programmes of Smile Foundation time to time. They have now further extended their support for strengthening the e- learning or computer learning of underprivileged children enrolled in Mission Education project in NOIDA.

An Employee engagement programme was conducted for the Barclays employees. Where they interacted with the children beneficiaries of Smile Foundation. There were around 550 children present, who get free education in this center. As the children were attending the school Barclays Bank members decided to interact with children in 6 different groups. During the interaction the employees of Barclays Bank spoke with the children about their works and activities. Several educational puzzles and quiz competitions were also conducted for the students.

The activity went on for the whole day. The active participation of students was very encouraging for the Barclays team. All the children took part actively in the activities carried out. Barclays Bank gave thanks to Smile Foundation to give them such a great experience to closely interact with the children; they also assured their full participation in the future too.

Bank of New York Mellon has got associated with Smile Foundation under its employee engagement programme. This engagement programme was conducted by Smile Foundation to engage BNY employees in some sensitizing activities with children beneficiaries of Smile Foundation. The programme was organised in one of the Mission Education center in Mumbai. The activities were conducted in a way that both BNY employees and Smile Foundation kids can equally participate.
