Adobe employees invite Smile kids for science workshop

EventsAdobe Inc. in Bengaluru, Karnataka, invited 40 children from Class 7th to 9th of Smile Foundation's Mission Education centre Vidyanikethan to their office. The employees of the organisation had put together a science competition called Smile through Science, especially for the children.

The employees at Adobe were surprised at the exceptional creativity of the budding scientists, with their various creations encompassing all elements of space like Volcano Eruption, Solar Planet, Animal Cell etc. Piquing the children's curiosity was their first chance to visit the campus of a Multi National Technology Company as they moved around, making observations and asking questions.

Heart to heart discussions, interactions, story-telling and lesson-sharing sessions followed, as Adobe employees bonded with the children. The visit proved to be a fun learning experience for not just the kids, but also for the employees.

Team Citrix paints young dreams with bright colours

A team of employees from Citrix Systems, Inc. volunteered to clean and paint the walls of children's classrooms at one of the Mission Education centres in Bengaluru. Choosing innovative and vibrant colour themes, the team enthusiastically gave a new look to the classrooms.

After the team finished its job, children from the centre were invited to share their opinion about the new look of their classrooms. All of them loved it and applauded the team for its efforts.

Later, a fun interaction and activity session with the Citrix employees gave a perfect ending to an exciting day for the children. The employees also volunteered to distribute warm clothes to the kids for winter.

Citrix Systems, Inc. is an American multinational software company founded in 1989 that provides server, application and desktop virtualization, networking, software-as-a-service (SaaS), and cloud computing technologies.





Triumph Motorcycles' Ride for Freedom



To commemorate 69 years of India's Independence, Triumph Motorcycles – the iconic British Motorcycle manufacturer, partnered with Smile Foundation to support girl child education.

Over 300 Triumph Motorcycles customers came together to 'Ride for Freedom' across 12 major cities of India including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Kochi, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Indore, and Jaipur. Each rider contributed by pledging his support towards the cause before beginning the ride. The rides were flagged off from the Triumph Dealership stores of the respective cities and culminated back at the dealerships.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vimal Sumbly, Managing Director, Triumph Motorcycles India said, “True Independence is when all citizens can enjoy their fundamental rights. In Smile Foundation, we found that perfect partner who felt the same for the girl child in India and we hope that this small contribution will be a catalyst to encourage others towards providing elementary education to the girl child.”

Ghanasingh Be True & Archana Kochhar spread smiles

Ghanasingh Be True and Designer Archana Kochhar came together with Smile Foundation to celebrate Mother's Day in a special way. Krishaa and Gautam Ghanasingh of Ghanasingh Be True presented their exclusive range “Odyssey of Pearls”, while Archana Kochhar previewed her collection, 'Tintinnabulate'. What made the occasion truly special was that part proceeds from the event went towards supporting the cause of girl child education through Smile Foundation.

Celebrity mothers including Isha Koppikar Narang, Urvashi Sharma, Kavita Paudwal, Bina Aziz, Sangeeta Singh, Sayeeda Kurlawala Jaffery, Naina Kanodia, Rashmi Uday Singh, Rajyalaxmi Rao, Rekha Chaudhary, and Dimple Nahar were present at the event. The ladies even cut a cake as a tribute to Smile Foundation to mark the day.


Saina launches Herbalife's nutrition programme for Smile children


Ace Badminton player Saina Nehwal came on board with Smile Foundation and Herbalife Family Foundation, for the launch of the third phase of the Casa Herbalife programme.

1000 children studying at Mission Education centres across India will be provided free nutritional support under the programme. Herbalife Family Foundation has already been supporting the nutrition of 2000 Smile Foundation children over the last two years.

Extremely poor families often have to make the choice between sending their children to work in order to get food, and sending them to school. As such, providing school meals can be a crucial factor in determining whether a child has an education.

Smile Foundation has been making efforts to not only provide underprivileged children with nutritious food at Mission Education centres across India, but also making their parents and communities aware about the importance of proper nutrition in the holistic development of children.


Recognition for rendering valuable services under Social Responsibility by ICSI

Smile Foundation has been recognized by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), Hyderabad Chapter, for rendering valuable services under social responsibility.

The award was presented by the Home Minister of Telangana, Mr. Naini Narasimha Reddy, and Member of Parliament, Ms. Kalvakuntla Kavitha. Smile Foundation's Sr. Programme Officer, Mr. Sridhar PV, received the award on behalf of the organization.

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, constituted under the Company Secretaries Act, is the only recognized and authorized body in India to develop and regulate the profession of Company Secretaries.

The award ceremony was part of the ICSI-CSR Walk, organized specially for ICSI members, students and the Company Secretaries fraternity, but open to all. The purpose behind the initiative was to spread awareness on Corporate Social Responsibility and recognize the leaders in the field.


Innovation Excellence Award in Social Sector by ASSOCHAM




Smile Foundation was conferred with the 'Innovation Excellence Award in Social Sector' at the Innovation Summit cum Excellence Awards 2015. The Awards were presented by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), at the Hotel Le-Meridian in New Delhi. Smile Foundation was also invited as a panellist to voice its views on sustainable development at the Summit.

ASSOCHAM, India's apex Commerce Chamber and Industry, representing most of India's largest corporations has been organizing the 'Innovation Summit cum Excellence Awards' for the last two years. The Summit, an annual event on innovation aims to generate powerful insights, practical tools and the chance to identify real-time solutions to real-world challenges.

The theme of the Summit this year was Innovative India@2020 and it focused on developing innovation ecosystems that would make India an Innovation Powerhouse by 2020.

MTS employees become angels for Smile kids

Employees from MTS offices in Gurgaon and Delhi became a part of Smile Foundation's “Be an Angel” campaign and raised need-based support for children under the Mission Education programme. The campaign aimed at sensitizing and mobilizing individuals to take up their social responsibility.

The employees pledged on the “Wish Trees” put up at the different corporate offices and supported the critical needs of children such as stationery, school kits, uniforms and nutrition for a whole year.

Enthusiastic participation from the employees ensured the success of the campaign and they really became angels in the lives of hundreds of underprivileged kids.

Smile Foundation believes that unless members of the civil society are involved proactively in the process of development, sustainable change will not happen. Following this model of Civic Driven Change, Smile Foundation sensitizes and engages the civil society, making it an active partner in all its welfare initiatives.



Seagate volunteers mentor Smile kids in Bengaluru & Pune

Seagate volunteers from its Bengaluru and Pune teams visited Smile Foundation's Mission Education centres in the city to mentor children in a Math and Science challenge where students created informative


posters based on STEM topics such as environment, hygiene and geometry.

Volunteers from the Bengaluru team conducted a mural painting activity based on the theme “Technology” where they shared their knowledge on Information Technology through the painting of items such as computers, laptops and various mobile devices.

In Pune, volunteers shared science and engineering concepts with the students as they worked together on a science challenge to build the tallest structure using only straws.

“Through this Math and Science challenge, the volunteers were able to share their expertise and knowledge with the children and encourage them to sustain an interest in these subjects”, said Venkat Naraina, Senior Engineering Director, Electronic Solutions.


Charity Football Tournament in support of Mission Education

EventsEmployees from leading corporate in Bengaluru came together for a one of its kind initiative – The Elegant Charity Football Tournament, at XLR8 Indoor Arena, to ensure education of underprivileged children under Smile Foundation's Mission Education programme.

Highly enthusiastic and strongly committed to the cause, employees from Elegant Properties, Adobe, Euromonitor Research & Consulting Pvt Ltd, Cerner Healthcare, Thomson Reuters, Herbalife, Target, Citrix, Informatica, TUV Reihnland, Globe Moving & Storage Co, JMR Infotech, Schneider Electric, Rubric PR and Bet On India, participated in the tournament.

Smile kids were present during the tournament to cheer for the teams. Thomson Reuters won the coveted cup and Bet on India was the Runner Up for the tournament.

The Charity Football Tournament became a success with the support of our partners – Elegant Properties, the title sponsor for the event; Herbalife and Gift.


An Evening of Responsible Luxury


Avery special evening celebrating responsible luxury was organised at the Hyatt Regency Delhi to raise support for girl child education. The event was well attended by prominent socialites and distinguished personalities, who all came together for the cause.

Supported by Hyatt and Ravish Kapoor Innovative Invitations, the initiative was successful in bringing hundreds of girls into the fold of education under Smile Foundation's Mission Education programme. Shivani Wazir Pasrich hosted the evening and made it really special for everyone present.

Renowned artists and brands including Ravissant, Air France KLM, V Renaissance, Rang Mahal, Grand Hyatt Dubai, Farah Khan Jewellery, Kitchen Aid, Bang & Olufsen, Chef Vikas Khanna, Archana Kochhar, Audi Gurgaon, and Worship & Gentleman's Tonic joined hands with Smile Foundation for the cause.


3rd edition of Cook for a Smile to support 'Nutrition for Education'

The 3rd edition of the unique charity cook-out “Cook for a Smile” was held during the National Nutrition Week. The event was part of Smile Foundation's nation-wide campaign 'Nutrition for Education', which aims at providing nutrition to underprivileged children to ensure better education and holistic development for them.

Presented by USHA International and hosted by Crowne Plaza Today Gurgaon, the initiative brought together ten corporate leaders with Michelin starred Chef Vikas Khanna to cook, contest and raise support for children studying at Smile Foundation's Mission Education centres across India.

One child joined each participant at the cooking stations, bringing in the fun factor in the competition. Jewellery Designer & Style Icon Monicka Vadera joined Chef Vikas in hosting the event and making it truly memorable for all present. CNN IBN was the media partner for the event.

Orion Festival of Giving with Smile


Orion Mall Bengaluru collaborated with Smile Foundation to bring to life one of its unique activations – The Orion Festival of Giving 2015. The event, spread across two weeks, used multiple platforms to raise awareness on and support for the education of underprivileged children.

As part of the Festival of Giving, the Orion Mall presented the 8th edition of Ramp for Champs, in association with the iconic fashion choreographer Prasad Bidapa.

Film stars such as Nicole Faria, Sanjjana, Raghu Mukherjee, Vijay Suriya, Indrajit Lankesh and Samyukta Hornad walked the ramp this year, as did Grammy Award winning artist, Ricky Kej, TV journalist Maya Sharma, and eminent sports personalities Sharmila Nicolette, Aravind KP, Ashwin Naik, and Santosh CS.



We witnessed some amazing support from corporate leaders including Chef Abihijit Saha, Anil Kumar, Atul Ujjagar, Chandru Bolaki, Charu Sharma, Githa Shankar, Kamal Bali, Kulsum, Navneet Kapoor, Pakajam Sridevi, Triveni Vinod and Rachna Aggarwal. Bollywood actor Isha Koppikar walked the ramp as the showstopper.

The 8th edition of Ramp for Champs was presented by Orion Mall in association with Scullers, Central and Mini Cooper. Other valuable partners were Ripple Media and Caperberry Restaurant.

The Festival of Giving culminated with an exclusive charity dinner and auction at the High Ultralounge, wth support from Darter Photography, Bodycraft, Jus' Trufs, Porsche Bangalore, and Harley Davidson.





Power Lunch in support of education and nutrition of Girl Child


The ever gracious Jyotika Gundecha hosted a “Power Lunch” in support of Smile Foundation at the Indian Soma restaurant, Grand Hyatt Mumbai. This was no ordinary gathering of friends but rather a meeting of like-minded individuals in support of a worthy cause - education and nutrition of the girl child.

The event was well attended by a number of high profile guests including Pooja Gor, Sweet Chauhan, Nayana Kavi, Rekha Ranka, Sangita Rathod, Ekta Bedha, Chanda Runwal, Vimla Oswal, Nidhi Mehta, Shivali Sharma, Pooja Goswamy, Priti Panchmatia, Rishika Agrawal, Naina Parekh, Deepa Rathod, Priti Surana, Dimple Punamiya, Meena Rathod, Kashish Manchadana, Mona Patel, Kunjal Shah, Hansa Dharod, Maya Bahgtani and Smita Thackeray.

New Zealand Women's Cricket team spends day with Smile kids


New Zealand Women's Cricket Team nicknamed White Ferns spent a memorable day with children at Smile Foundation's Mission Education centre Vidyarana in Bengaluru. The centre is home to more than 60 orphan children who are provided shelter, nutrition, education, and most importantly love and care.

With an aim to raise awareness about importance of education, the players interacted with the children and gave them various tips and secrets of playing cricket which left the children with big smiles on their faces. After a brief cricket match amidst lots of fun and laughter, the players motivated the kids to perform well in their studies so that they too have a bright future.

“The fact that our presence there made the children so happy and they were smiling the whole time, makes us elated and excited,” said Anna Peterson, an all-rounder from the team.
